I remember waiting for my mom and dad to pick me up from school. The worst was when they were late. One by one, the kids around me were picked up. I was still waiting. I would look out of the school window, hoping to see my car. I started to worry. Did they forget to pick me up?

When I finally saw our bright yellow van, I breathed a sigh of relief.

Simeon Waits for the Messiah Luke 2:25-35

T

here was a good man named Simeon who lived in Jerusalem. He was waiting for God’s promise to Israel, that the Messiah would be born, to come true. The Holy Spirit told Simeon that he would not die before he had seen the Messiah.

Simeon went to the temple courtyard. Jesus’ parents, Mary and Joseph, brought the child in. Simeon took Jesus in his arms and praised God saying: “Lord, you are the King over all.

Now let me, your servant, go in peace.

That is what You promised.

My eyes have seen Your salvation.

You have prepared it in the sight of all nations.

It is a light to be given to the Gentiles.

It will be the glory of Your people Israel.”

Jesus’ parents were amazed what Simeon said about Him. Simeon blessed them all. He told Mary that God had sent Jesus and that He would know people’s hearts.

Do you remember what you ate for dinner yesterday? What about the day before? I would be very surprised if you could tell me what you ate in March last year. The more time that passes, the harder it is to remember.

Israel Worships a Golden Calf

Exodus 32:1-35

A

fter Moses rescued the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, he went up a mountain. There, God wrote the Ten Commandments on two tablets of stone. Moses was up there for a long time. The people of Israel became impatient. They went to Aaron, the high priest, and asked him to make them a new god.

Aaron told them to give him all their gold jewelry.

He melted it into a golden calf. The people said, “Israel, here is your god who brought you up out of Egypt.”

When Aaron saw them worshipping the golden calf, he built them an altar. The next day, they sacrificed burnt offerings and danced around their new idol.

Up on the mountain, the Lord spoke to Moses: “The people you brought up out of Egypt have become very sinful.”

He told Moses to go back down to the Israelites.

When Moses came back, he was very angry. He said to the people, “Anyone on the Lord’s side, come to me.” Only the Levites joined him.

The rest of the people died that day.

Moses went back up the mountain to ask God to forgive the Israelites who were still alive. The Lord said He would forgive them. But they would still have to be punished. The Lord sent a plague on the people.

This was because of the golden calf Aaron had made them.

Hi kids!

Once, a special test was done. Some children were given one marshmallow on a plate. They were told to not eat it. If they didn’t eat it, they would get a prize. Many kids ate it right away. Others could hardly sit still in their seat. You could see that it took a lot of effort to not eat the marshmallow! The kids who waited got two marshmallows to eat as a reward. This test shows us that being patient is hard, but that it pays off.

The Bible tells us the story of a man named Esau who was very hungry. Because he could not wait, he made a bad choice and lost something very important. Read the Bible story to find out why having patience is worth it.

Esau’s Impatience Genesis 25:24-34

saac’s wife, Rebekah, had twin boys. The first one to be born was red and his body was covered in hair. They named him Esau. Then, his brother was born and he was holding Esau’s heel. He was named Jacob. When the boys grew up, Esau was a skilled hunter. Jacob worked at home inside the tents.

One day, Jacob was cooking stew. Esau came home from hunting and asked Jacob for some. “Quick!” he said. “I’m very hungry.”

Jacob replied, “First sell me the rights that belong to you as the oldest son in the family.”

Esau agreed saying, “I’m dying of hunger, what good are those rights to me?”

So, Jacob gave Esau some bread and lentil stew.

END

Because Esau didn’t value the rights that belonged to him, Jacob got his entire inheritance.

Hi kids!

Tomorrow is Palm Sunday. Why do we remember this special day? This was the day that Jesus arrived in Jerusalem before His death and Resurrection.

Can you imagine how excited you would be if you heard Jesus was coming to your town? The people of Jerusalem were, too.

They clapped their hands and shouted, “Hosanna in the highest heaven!” The word hosanna means “save us.” Well, not everyone was happy about His arrival. Some people didn’t like Jesus. They complained and said He should tell the people to be quiet. But Jesus replied, “I tell you, if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out” (see Luke 19:39-40).

s Jesus approached Jerusalem, He sent out two disciples to go ahead of Him to the village. “When you get there you will find a donkey and her colt tied up,” He said. “Untie them and bring them to Me. If anyone asks what you are doing, say that the Lord needs them.”

The disciples did what Jesus told them to do. They brought the donkey and the colt and put their coats on them. Then Jesus sat on the coats.

As Jesus entered the city, many people put their coats on the road. Others cut branches from palm trees and spread them on the road. They praised God and shouted, “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.”
