As I write - we’re 8 days from the opening ceremony of the Paralympics. If we were impressed by what the Olympic athletes did - how much more amazing will it be to witness those competing despite significant disability. Competing in the games will be athletes who were born blind or missing a limb, there’ll be athletes with cerebral palsy and paraplegia, some injured in car accidents, at least one shark attack survivor and even soldiers wounded by land mines. How many when faced with such hardship would dream of reaching such heights? How many would spurn common wisdom and strive to prove it wrong? As I wait to enjoy the games I can’t help but think of the Adidas slogan - ‘Impossible is Nothing’. If it makes a good tagline for the Paralympics, it’s equally well suited to the Bible. How could a man with a speech impediment (Moses) change the mind of Pharaoh? How could an elderly barren woman (Sarah) give birth to a nation? How could two bad-tempered brothers (James and John) build a church founded on peace and love? For the God who crafted the stars and set them in
