THE NEXT STEP
ive me a T-R-O-U-B-L-E! That’s exactly what a cheerleading team known as the Comets are in – trouble! It’s the start of a new cheerleading season and a squad of hardworking athletes have turned up to their gym, ready to start training. Only, they’ve discovered that their coach has quit. Plus, they might not even have enough cheerleaders on their team anymore!
Olive, a new member of the Comets, isn’t ready to watch this team fall apart. So she calls for the help of a fab friend – a fantastic dancer called Kenzie! If Kenzie can prove that she has what it takes to run a cheerleading team, then she’ll be allowed to become the squad’s coach. First, though, she’ll have to put her leadership skills on display, help the Comets to throw together a magnificent performance and find new people to join the team!
on BBC iPlayer now
Even if Kenzie can save the Comets, she’ll still have a massive job to complete. She’ll need to teach this mismatched team of athletes to work together and inspire them to believe that they have what it takes to win a national competition! Will this cheerleading season end in disaster for Kenzie and Olive, or will it be the B-E-S-T one yet?
You can watch the first episode of ‘The Next Step: Cheer’ on BBC iPlayer now. New episodes air every Monday on CBBC.
The success of a cheerleading team depends on how the team members work together. It’s the same for all teams and groups – whether that’s music, drama, sports or something else. Creating a happy team environment can help everyone do their best and there’s a perfect bit of Bible advice for this in 1 Thessalonians 5:11 – it says, ‘Encourage one another and build each other up’ (New International Version).
Being a good encourager is so important – whether that’s telling others they’re doing a great job or helping them believe in themselves. Think of it like building a tower – every time you say something encouraging to someone else this week, imagine yourself adding a block to a tower in your head. You could even draw or make a tower out of something. At the end of the week, think about how tall that tower is and how much good you’ve done for the people around you.
IMore Like Jesus!
came home from an amazing holiday about a rmonth ago. After weeks of exploring spectacular places, eating delicious dinners and shooting down some awesome waterslides, I honestly felt a bit sad to come back home! I felt as if all the fun was now over. Have you ever felt the same way?
In this week’s Bible cartoon, we discover that having the Holy Spirit with us is like the opposite of coming home from a fab holiday – the fun doesn’t ever end! That’s because the Holy Spirit is with us every day of our lives!
After the Day of Pentecost, which is the day when Jesus’ followers were filled with the Holy Spirit, they discovered that the Holy Spirit would
Read the comment below about how the Holy Spirit never leaves us
continue to help them. As they spent time meeting together and praying, the Holy Spirit began to change their hearts so they would become more like Jesus. He even transformed them to be so loving that they gave away their belongings to people in need!
If you’re a Christian, then this week’s cartoon shows that God will never leave you! Instead, he’ll help to make you more like Jesus. Where are you seeing that in your own life? Perhaps the Holy Spirit is helping you to be kinder to your siblings, or more willing to share with your friends! Why not pray to God to ask for the Holy Spirit to make you more and more like Jesus every day?
Race the Runway
It’s the last day of a fantastic holiday, but you’re running late for your flight home! Navigate your way through this maze to make it to the aeroplane on time. As you’re finding your way, take a moment to remember that unlike a holiday, having the Holy Spirit is something that never has to end!

Or if you spot someone feeling down, lend them a listening ear. A good chat about how we feel is often the key to helping us feel better.

HELLO, READERS, I’VE LOST A VERY IMPORTANT OBJECT SOMEWHERE IN THE ISSUE. WOULD YOU BE ABLE TO HELP ME FIND IT? I HAVE A CLUE OF WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE HERE.
World Wonder
Chichén Itzá
This epic pyramid was built by the Maya people. You can see it for yourself if you travel to Mexico, because it’s still standing today, more than 1,000 years after it was built. This picture shows the main pyramid – it’s called El Castillo, which means The Castle. However, there are lots of other buildings to see here too – they’re part of an ancient city called Chichén Itzá. There’s even a court that experts believe Mayans played ball games on!
The pyramid isn’t just a cool-looking structure, though – it’s also a calendar! In total, there are 365 steps, one for each day in a year. There are 91 steps on each of the 4 sides and 1 platform on the top. Twice a year the Sun even makes it look as if there is a serpent slithering up or down the steps!
Our world is pretty awesome! All around the globe there are magnificent things to see. So jump in our imaginary jumbo jet and travel the world with us!

Summer Safety
Beach trips, outdoor adventures, bike rides – now that it’s getting sunnier outside, there are so many more exciting activities that you can get up to! With summer just around the corner (some experts would say that it starts on Monday 1 June), the Kids Alive! thinks that there’s no better time than right now to learn some summer safety tips!
Beach Trips
Is your family planning a trip to the beach this summer? If you’re going to the sunny seaside, then don’t miss out on these top beach safety tips!
Always wear sunscreen! You should put on SPF30 or higher sunscreen 30 minutes before you go outside, and then you should put on more sunscreen every 2 hours. If you swim, you should always put more sunscreen on after you get out of the water!
Once you’ve arrived at the beach, you should ask your parents or carers to read any information boards. This is so that you can know about anything that might be dangerous at the beach, such as tide changes.
Make sure you’re wearing your best seaside outfit! This means wearing a hat that will provide lots of shade, sunglasses to protect your eyes and a long-sleeved shirt that covers your skin.
Know what all the flags at the beach mean! Some parts of the sea aren’t safe to swim in, so flags are often used to show where you can go for a dip.
Outdoor Adventures
Are you planning to go on an outdoor adventure this summer? If you are, then you’re probably going to have to cross a few roads. That means it’s super important that you know the best road-crossing tips! The Green Cross Code says that before crossing the road, everyone should…
Think! Always look for the safest place to cross the road, such as a zebra crossing or at traffic lights.
Stop! Before you’re about to cross the road, you should stop to check for any oncoming vehicles.
Use your eyes and ears! Put your eyes and ears to good use to look and listen for traffic. You should look to your right, then to your left, and then to your right again.
Wait until it’s safe to cross! This means that if there’s any traffic coming, you should wait for it to pass.
Once you start to cross the road, you should…
Look and listen! Keep using your eyes and ears as you cross the road. And make sure that you’re being sensible as you walk – don’t run!
Bike Rides
Arrive! Don’t stop looking and listening until you arrive at the other side of the road. Then give yourself a pat on the back for crossing safely.
Here are some bike safety tips you should keep in mind this summer…
Always wear a helmet! A helmet helps to keep your head safe in case you crash your bike. It should sit about two fingers above your eyebrows, and you should make sure that the side straps are clipped together.
If you’re under the age of 10, you should only ever go for a bike ride when you’re being closely watched by a grown-up.
Practise your cycling skills before riding in a busy park or on a busy road! If it’s been a while since you’ve ridden a bike, test out your skills on flat, grassy ground first.
You can find more tips for your parents and carers to follow at britishcycling.org.uk/knowledge/article/20200529-Get-Started-Tips-for-cycling-with-kids-0
Have a fantastic summer, and make sure you stay safe!

Tell us something interesting about yourself. I speak three languages. Is there anything else you would like to tell us? My favourite subject at school is maths. My favourite animal is the capybara, because I think they are the most peaceful and friendly animals on Earth. I hope one day I will be able to go to a real capybara land where they live. When I study, read or draw, I like to listen to relaxing capybara music with videos on YouTube. Sometimes we help people take care of their dogs, and my mum and I go hiking a lot. We pick up trash around our home – unfortunately there are many people littering.
