We’ve seen Minions fight off evil supervillains, steal the Moon and even become the kings of England. Now our favourite banana-loving friends are making a monster movie!

It’s the 1920s, and the Minions are taking Hollywood by storm. That’s when they have the genius idea to make their very own film about terrifying monsters. However, they realise that they’re missing something important – the monsters! So the Minions try to unleash a terrifying creature. They could have discovered a massive monster with three heads and flaming breath that’s hotter than the Sun. Instead, they end up face-to-face with a green, squishy creature called Goomi, who’s somehow even shorter than the Minions themselves! While Goomi isn’t exactly what the Minions are hoping for, he does lead the crew to finally find the ultimate monster –a giant, horrific slime with tons of eyes called Irene. Little do the Minions know that Irene is planning to destroy the world (which wouldn’t be great for their film-making careers). The Minions have unleashed a horrifying monster into the world, and in true Minion fashion, they’ll have to work together to save the planet from the mayhem they’ve created!

You can watch ‘Minions and Monsters’ in cinemas from 1 July

The Minions seem to have created a lot of chaos … again! No matter what they do, nothing turns out how they planned. They always end up trying to fix whatever problem they’ve accidentally created.

That kind of thing can happen to us all – we set out with a plan, and somehow things go wrong. Maybe we say something to a friend that ends up upsetting them, even though we didn’t mean to. Or perhaps we accidentally break something that’s important to someone else. None of us are perfect, so we will make mistakes. The important thing to remember is to admit our mistakes and try to fix any problems we’ve caused. The Bible is full of people who made mistakes too –and some of those mistakes caused chaos as well! Thankfully, God can help us put things right, and he is always ready to forgive us when we admit our mistakes and ask for his help.

Show You Care

Over the last few weeks, reading the creation istory has been a wonderful reminder of how much love and care God put into creating our world. From the fish of the ocean to the creatures of the land, God thought of everything! He even gave people the special role of looking after everything he made.

That’s why caring for creation is a responsibility that we need to take seriously and something we should put our very best effort into. God has made each of us in his image and placed his love in us. Now we get to share God’s love with others and creation around us.

Imagine a world where everyone did their part to care for the planet. By working together, we could have cleaner air to breathe, safer water for sea creatures to swim in and lots of natural habitats for wildlife to thrive in. If we all chose to do our best to look after the planet, it could be a healthier and fairer place for all.

So, are you ready to be a creation champion? You could recycle your rubbish, turn off electronics and walk or cycle instead of using a car. You could also show love to others by welcoming new kids at school, being kind to those who’ve been left out and being respectful to everyone, no matter what their background is.

Read the comment on the right about being a creation champion

When we care for creation, we’re showing God how thankful we are for all that he’s created and that we choose to trust him and his instructions for how to live in this wonderful world that he’s made!

World Wonder

The Taj Mahal

The story of the Taj Mahal is a love story. It all starts with two people in India, way back in the 1600s. Shah Jahan was an emperor and he was married to Mumtaz Mahal. Sadly, Mumtaz died when she was giving birth to their 14th child. Shah was so sad that he decided to have the most impressive building created in her memory. The Taj Mahal is that building! It’s made out of white marble and beautiful gems and took many years to build. Some people believe that Shah even tried to make sure that the person who designed it never made anything like it again. Mumtaz must have been one super-special woman! Nowadays, around three million people visit this magnificent place every year and it has been named one of the new seven wonders of the world!

Our world is pretty awesome! All around the globe there are magnificent things to see. So jump in our imaginary jumbo jet and travel the world with us!

Story Competition Winners

This summer, Kids Alive! and Salvationist teamed up for a joint writing competition where we asked our readers to retell a Bible story in their own words. Here are two entries that we received and loved!

If you’d like to read some entries from grown-ups, check out the 27 June issue of Salvationist at salvationist.org.uk/magazine

Luke 19:1–10

There was once a man called Zacchaeus. He was VERY short (shorter than us and we are all very little). Nobody liked him. He didn’t have friends because he was mean and he stole. One day, Jesus came to town and EVERYONE wanted to see him. But there were too many tall people. Big heads everywhere. It was like when we went to the cinema and couldn’t see and we needed a special seat to make us taller. Zacchaeus couldn’t see – he tried jumping but he couldn’t see anything.

Zacchaeus decided to climb a tree (we have never seen a grown-up climb a tree, so we think he must have looked silly). Jesus walked past the crowds. He stopped and looked up and said, ‘Zacchaeus! Come down! I’m coming to your house!’

Zacchaeus by Nunhead Salvation Army Sunday School nuggets

And everyone was SHOCKED and they weren’t happy. People thought Jesus should go to the nice people’s houses. Not the grumpy money-stealing man hiding in a tree. But Zacchaeus nearly fell out of the tree getting down so fast. And when Jesus came to his house, they had something nice to eat. Jesus was very nice to Zacchaeus and talked to him. And then something changed inside Zacchaeus. He said sorry. He gave people their money back. And he even gave extra back too, which is a bit like stealing someone’s chips and then returning them with chicken nuggets and sweets!

come

Then Jesus said he had come to nd lost people. Not lost like when your mum can’t see you at the park because it’s busy. Lost on the inside, when you feel a bit sad inside and you don’t know why.

We think this story is important because Jesus sees people. Even tiny people (even tiny people like us – one of us is only three!). Even naughty people (sometimes we can be a little bit naughty because we don’t listen). He even sees you if you sit in a tree. We like that Jesus can see us.

The Parable of the Lost Son

Luke 15:11-32

spent

The father lived in a very big and beautiful estate. He had fertile elds, many servants and a lot of money. He worked hard every day to build this large amount of wealth. But one day, his younger son came to him. The boy was restless and wanted to leave. He said, ‘Dad, give me my money now.’ In their culture, this demand was the equivalent of wishing the father was dead. It was unacceptable, as well as disrespectful. The father felt very sad, but he did not argue. He divided all his wealth and gave the boy his share. A few days later, the boy took his money and walked far away to a distant country to live a life of joy.

In that new place, the boy was very foolish. He spent his money on bad things, expensive parties and frivolous living. Soon, all his money was gone. Then, a very bad famine came to the land. There was no food, and everything became very dear. The boy had no money and no acquaintances to help him, so he became completely destitute. He had to take a terrible job from a local citizen. The man sent him to a dirty eld to feed pigs. For his people, pigs were unclean animals, so this was the lowest point of his life. He was so hungry that he wanted to eat the coarse pods that the pigs were chewing, but nobody gave him anything.

safe.’ The older brother became very angry and indignant. He refused to inside.

The father looked at him with enduring love and said, ‘Son, you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. But we must celebrate, for your brother was dead and is alive. He was lost and is now found!’

One day, he sat in the mud and thought about his life. He had a sudden thought and realised what he had done. He said, ‘My father’s servants have plenty of bread, and here I am starving.’ He knew he could not be a son again because he was unworthy. So he practised a contrite speech, ‘Father, I have sinned against Heaven and you. I am bad. Please hire me as a servant.’ He stood up and began the long, laborious walk back home. The father was looking at the road, just like he did every day. While the boy was still far away, a ragged and dirty gure, the father saw him. He felt huge compassion and benevolence. Old men in that country never ran because it looked undigni ed, but the father did not care about that. He gathered his clothes and ran down the road. He hugged his son’s dirty neck and kissed him. The boy started his rehearsed speech, but the father interrupted him. He shouted to the servants, ‘Bring the best robe! Put a ring on his nger and sandals on his feet! Kill the fatted calf! My son was dead and is alive! He was lost and is found!’ The whole house started a grand and jubilant celebration.

Meanwhile, the older son was working hard in the elds. When he walked to the house, he heard loud music and dancing. He asked a servant, ‘What is happening?’ The servant said, ‘Your brother is home, and your father is throwing a prodigious feast because he is safe.’ The older brother became very angry and indignant. He refused to go inside. The father came outside and pleaded with him, but the older brother was lled with rancour. He said, ‘I have worked like a slave for you for years and never broken a rule, but you never gave me a small goat for a party. But when my brother comes home after wasting your livelihood, you kill the best animal for him!’

Ever since I was three years old, this has been my favourite story because my father used to read it to me all the time. Even though we are all a lot busier now and don’t get to share those quiet story times anymore, the message of a father’s love still means the world to me. I hope you can feel that warmth as you read my version.

Meet Malachi!

Hi, everyone! My name is Malachi, I’m 15 years old and I’m finishing Year 10 at secondary school soon. My favourite subject is English, as I love diving into different books and coming up with wild new ideas! I can also be quite chatty in class – just ask my teachers!

However, this week, I’ve swapped schoolwork for work experience at Kids Alive! and it’s been amazing! I’ve already written a competition page and an article about the new Minions film, and I can’t wait to write even more! It’s been really exciting seeing how much work goes into creating every issue of Kids Alive!

My biggest passion is musical theatre. I love singing, acting, dancing and performing on stage. I really love the buzz of hearing everyone’s voices come together in one big song.

One day, I’d love to be a professional performer.

I’m really excited to be part of the Kids Alive! team this week, and I hope you enjoy reading what we’ve been working on!

Welcome to the team, Malachi! I hope you’ve enjoyed working with us!
