Iif you peeked inside a toy box belonging to an eight-year-old girl called Bonnie, you might be blown away by some of the awesome toys she owns. A spectacular space ranger action figure called Buzz Lightyear, a fearless cowgirl called Jessie and more little green aliens than you could possibly count –Bonnie’s collection is full of toys some kids could only dream of having!

However, Bonnie’s stopped paying these toys any attention! That’s because she has something far more interesting to play with. She now has her very own Lilypad, which is a frog-shaped electronic tablet! Bonnie spends most of her time on Lilypad, ignoring her toys. Why would Bonnie need a slinky dog or toy dinosaur when she can use Lilypad to talk to her friends and play as many games as she likes? What Bonnie doesn’t know is that her toys are actually alive and they’re very worried! They know that they’re not important to Bonnie anymore, so they’re scared that she might get rid of them. Jessie, who was once Bonnie’s favourite toy, calls for back-up – and an old toy pal called Woody comes to the rescue. Now Jessie, Buzz and Woody need to work together to remind Bonnie of how brilliant toys can be!

You can watch ‘Toy Story 5’ in cinemas now. The film is rated PG, which stands for parental guidance. Parents or carers can read more about this rating at bbfc.co.uk before deciding if it’s suitable for their family.

In Toy Story 5, Bonnie gets a cool new bit of technology. Unfortunately, she spends so much time on the Lilypad that she stops playing with her other toys and that makes them sad. Screens such as tablets, computer consoles and phones can be great, but they often distract us from other people. When I spend too much time distracted by my phone, it stops me from giving the people I love my full attention – and then they might feel like they’re not important to me.

The same thing happens with my friendship with Jesus. When I get too distracted with other things in my life, including technology, I don’t give him my full attention. Maybe you feel the same. If you do, let’s all make a special effort to take a break from everything going on around us, switch off any devices and make time to talk to Jesus without any distractions!

ITalk it Out

n this week’s cartoon, the creation story icontinues to go from bad to worse. Adam and Eve’s choice to eat the forbidden fruit means that God’s world is no longer perfect. Now their son, Cain, has a choice to make too. Will he listen to God, or will he choose his own way as well?

When God rejects Cain’s offering but accepts his brother’s, Cain is very angry. Cain doesn’t think it’s fair and God can see that unless Cain deals with his big feelings, something terrible is going to happen. So God talks to Cain and encourages him to reflect on his actions. God tells Cain that he can make things better if he makes the right choice. Sadly, Cain doesn’t listen to God and ends up killing his brother.

Anger and jealousy are big emotions that we

Read the comment below about sharing our feelings with God

sometimes feel too. When we let them grow and take over our thoughts, they can have a big effect on how we treat others. For example, have you noticed that when you’re happy, you’re more likely to treat people with kindness, but when you’re angry, you’re more likely to be mean?

God loves everyone, and he wants us to love others too. Not just sometimes when we’re cheerful and feel like it, but all the time – even when it feels hard. So, this week, if you find yourself getting upset with someone, take a moment to pause. You can say a prayer, write a letter to God or talk to someone you trust. Share how you’re feeling and then ask God to help take away any angry emotions. When you do, he’ll fill you with his love and peace.

Let Love Lead the Way

Cain’s anger led to him making a terrible choice. However, if he had chosen to act in love, things might have turned out differently. Lead Cain through the maze, following all the hearts for a much happier outcome.

World Wonder

The Great Pyramid at Giza

This week’s World Wonder can be seen near the River Nile in Egypt. The Great Pyramid is the only one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World that is still standing today. This amazing construction was built for King Khufu a very long time ago – more than 4,000 years ago, in fact! That was way before the cranes and trucks used for building today, which makes this 147-metre masterpiece even more impressive.

Our world is pretty awesome! All around the globe there are magnificent things to see. So jump in our imaginary jumbo jet and travel the world with us!

The Great Pyramid is the largest pyramid ever built. It’s made from around 2.3 million stone blocks and has three burial chambers, because it was built to be the place where the king would be buried after he passed away. Near Khufu’s pyramid there are also three smaller pyramids that were built for Khufu’s queens, and a pyramid for his son, Khafre, and his grandson, Menkaure.

World Refugee Day

If you had to leave your home right now and never go back, what would you take with you in your rucksack? Would you choose to bring items that mean a lot to you, such as a teddy you’ve had since you were a baby? Or would you take anything that might be really useful, such as baby wipes and a torch?

Those might sound like odd questions, but the truth is that every minute, around 20 people across the world leave their homes to escape war or other dangerous situations, such as natural disasters. That means that as you’ve been reading this page of Kids Alive!, someone will have fled from their home!

Leaving Home

People who’ve had to leave where they’re living, including the country they call home, are known as ‘displaced’. In fact, there are more than 117 million ‘displaced people’ around the world right now! These include millions of children, who have had to flee their homes as a result of wars in places such as Ukraine, Sudan and Afghanistan! Some of these people have been able to register with the United Nations or in a new country and become ‘refugees’.

Serious Struggles

Journeying to safe places can be very dangerous for refugees. Plus, it can be really hard for refugees to find what they need to survive, such as water and food. Refugees will also often find themselves living in giant camps which are packed full of people, so the living conditions can be very poor.

Everyone Should Be Safe

Some of our Kids Alive! readers might be refugees! That’s because the UK has become a new home for many wonderful refugees from around the world.

Every person deserves to be safe, and to live somewhere where they can flourish. That message is exactly what World Refugee Day is all about. World Refugee Day takes place every 20 June (which is today). It’s a special day to remember people who have been forced to flee their homes, and to work to make sure that everything’s being done to protect them!

Time to Think

Here are two stories of refugees who now live in the UK…

Jabir grew up in Afghanistan, until he had to flee his home with his cousin at the age of 14. He spent time in a camp in a place called Calais, where he was incredibly lonely. Then volunteers from a charity helped Jabir to make it to the UK. He now lives with his auntie in Manchester, and he’s made new friends at his school!

Rachel is a Christian, but she lived in a country where people wanted to hurt anyone who followed Jesus! At just 17 years of age, Rachel and her mum had to flee from their home, hiding in the back of a lorry. They eventually made it to the UK. Now Rachel plans to become a lawyer, so that she can help more refugees to find a home in the UK!

Your Turn

You might be scratching your head trying to figure out how you can help refugees this World Refugee Day. Here are a few ideas…

Raise money for a charity that helps refugees! You could put on a bake sale and then give any money raised to the Ukraine Crisis Appeal, which has been organised by The Salvation Army (which publishes Kids Alive!). You can find out more by visiting salvationarmy.org.uk/ukraine-crisis-appeal

Share the love with refugees in your community! Ask your local church whether they know of any refugees who are new to your area and then put together a care package for them. Perhaps you could include a card or letter to make them feel really welcome!

Encourage those around you to show love to refugees! You could put together a helpful leaflet or even draw a comic about refugees to share with your friends.

Stand up for refugees this World Refugee Day!
