I love being by the sea! As a kid, my summers were spent diving into the sea off Plymouth Hoe (the seafront in Plymouth where I grew up) or at one of the nearby beaches. If I wasn’t in the water, I was digging in the sand, and if I wasn’t doing that I was exploring rock pools or crabbing (catching crabs) by the quay. There’s so much to explore and discover at the seaside – it’s fab! The sea features quite a bit in the Bible (check out page 5 to read a Bible story set at sea – technically a lake). There’s the great flood, a sea separates to aid a great escape, a big fish that swallows someone whole, Jesus walking on water, shipwrecks and more. There is so much to explore and learn in the Bible – it’s fab. Why don’t you dive in and see what you can discover?

ave you ever been on a boat in a storm? When I was seven, my family went on holiday to Brittany in France. The best way for us to get there was to sail on a ferry from our home town of Plymouth to Roscoff, which is a six-hour voyage. The journey to France was fine, but the journey home two weeks later was awful! A storm blew up and the ferry rocked and dipped from bow to stern and port to starboard! My head span and my stomach churned. Every so often the ship dropped so suddenly I was left walking on air. I don’t mind telling you I was very scared, not to mention very sick! I can totally understand why the disciples who were on board the boat with Jesus in this week’s
says Justin Reeves
cartoon Bible story were frightened. Life is often described as a journey and some people refer to the tough times life throws at us as storms. I can think of a number of times in my life when things haven’t gone smoothly and I’ve made things worse because I’ve tried to fix them myself. Sometimes it wasn’t until I started panicking that I asked Jesus to help. Surprise, surprise, that’s when things started to get better. Jesus is always there for you. So next time you feel like things are starting to go wrong, ask for Jesus’ help sooner rather than later. Better still, include him in all that you do by talking to him about everything and trust him to keep you safe.

Psalm 138
The Bible book of Psalms is a collection of songs that help us to tell God how we’re feeling – whether we’re happy, excited, worried or sad. There are psalms praising and thanking God, asking for his help and reminding us that, no matter what, we can always trust him. So however you’re feeling, dig in! There’s sure to be a psalm that’s just right for you.
As God’s children we’re really blessed that God listens to us and answers when we pray to ask for help. So it’s important that we don’t take it for granted. Saying thank you, giving him praise and sharing with others what God has done for us shows God that we’re truly thankful. It also encourages others to know that they can confidently ask God for help too.
With all my heart I praise you, Lord. In the presence of angels I sing your praises. I worship at your holy temple and praise you for your love and your faithfulness. You were true to your word and made yourself more famous than ever before. When I asked for your help, you answered my prayer and gave me courage. All kings on this Earth have heard your promises, Lord, and they will praise you. You are so famous that they will sing about the things you have done. Though you are above us all, you care for humble people, and you keep a close watch on everyone who is proud. I am surrounded by trouble, but you protect me against my angry enemies. With your own powerful arm you keep me safe. You, Lord, will always treat me with kindness. Your love never fails. You have made us what we are. Don’t give up on us now! Contemporary English Version
Dear God,
You are awesome! Thank you for listening to us when we pray. May everybody receive the opportunity to experience your goodness.
Amen.

It’s not possible to hum while holding your nose and mouth closed at the same time. Go on, try it! Normally when you hum your mouth is closed and the air escapes through your nostrils to create a sound, but that can’t happen when both your nose and mouth are closed.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games were due to start this weekend but have been postponed until 2021 because of the coronavirus outbreak, but we didn’t want to let that stop us from sharing a few Olympic facts.
It’s a Date!
Robot Mascots
Recycled
Having hosted the Summer Games in 1964, Tokyo will once again welcome Olympic competitors from all around the globe in 2021. You can follow all the action between 23 July and 8 August – only 363 days to go! Here are some of the things we can look forward to when athletes finally get together to compete… For the first time the acrobatic tricks of freestyle BMX cyclists will be on show, as well as new Olympic sports skateboarding, surfing, climbing and karate. Baseball will return to the Games after a 22-year break.
Robot mascots will welcome athletes and spectators to the Games. They have different facial expressions and can wave and shake hands.
Every medal will be made from recycled gold, silver and bronze from small electronic devices handed in by people fromall over Japan.
Top of the Table A total of 15,685 medals have been awarded in Olympic history! The USA has won the most medals with Russia second, Germany third and Great Britain fourth in the medal table. Team GB’s medal tally has improved at recent Games, finishing second in the medals table at Rio 2016!
A Few Fab Firsts The first modern Olympic Games were held in 1896 in Athens, Greece, but Olympics were also held thousands of years ago in Ancient Greece. In the Ancient Greek Olympics athletes competed in events, such as boxing and chariot racing… possibly naked!
Women competed for the first time at the 1900 Paris Olympics. Britain’s Charlotte Cooper was the first female to become an Olympic champion in an individual event when she won the women’s singles tennis.
Lightning Bolt No one has run faster than Usain Bolt! At Beijing 2008 he won gold in the 100, 200 and 4x100 sprint events, breaking three world records. He went on to win all three events at London 2012 and Rio 2016.
Press Association pictures KA - p11 - 25 July.indd 1
On Target Zhang Shan from China outshot men and women to win gold in the mixed skeet clay pigeon shooting event at Barcelona 1992! At Atlanta 1996 the event was limited to men only but women were given their own competition at the Olympic Games in 2000.
Max Whitlock became Britain's first ever gold medallist in artistic gymnastics, winning the floor and pommel horse at Rio 2016.
Still Standing Bob Beamon set a whopping Olympic long jump record of 8.9 metres at the 1968 Mexico Games that still hasn’t been broken! Mark Powell jumped further 25 years later at the Tokyo World Championships, but Beamon’s Olympic record still stands.

Giving to others and showing kind ness can help us feel good, as well as them. It creates positive feelings and helps people connec t with others. By simply asking people if they’re OK and listening to them, or sending someone who lives alone a card or letter, it’s possible to make a big difference to how they feel. There are also more ways to help others – helping friends or siblings out with school projects, fundraising for a charity or picking up litter to keep a community tidy are all great ideas.

Ask a grown-up to cut up the lemon and squeeze some lemon juice into the bowl and mix it into the hummus.
Serve your carrot hummus with some strips of pitta bread or sticks of vegetables.

Lockdown prevented the children’s ministry celebration meetings from taking place at Dunstable Salvation Army this year. However, book tokens were sent to 32 children to recognise their regular attendance at Sunday worship, Footsteps Club (Sunday school) and Messy Church. For three of the young people, this was the year they would have received their final prize. So that they didn’t miss out, Major Lindsay Brevitt (leader of Dunstable Salvation Army) carried out socially distanced, drive-by presentations to Samual, Jacob and Farouk. Here are photos of Samual and Jacob with their copies of the Youth Bible.
