If there’s one thing we know about our readers it’s that lots of you love animals. From reading your Reader Profiles, I know many of you have pets and quite a few of you would like to be vets when you grow up. It’s lovely to have pets, but as any pet owner or vet will tell you it’s really important to look after them well. (That’s something you might want to think about before nag… gently persuading your parents or guardians for a cute, fluffy animal.) It’s not just pets we should look after – we have a responsibility to look after all animals and the world they live in. Sadly, some people have forgotten how important it is to look after other living things. God created an amazing world for us to enjoy and share with other creatures. Make sure you’re doing your bit to look after God’s world.

READ THE COMMENT BELOW ABOUT HOW JESUS WANTS US TO LOVE EACH OTHER

Share Jesus’ Love

says Justin Reeves

n this week’s cartoon Bible story, Jesus talks a lot about love and loving each other. I can imagine a lot of you screwing up your faces and saying ‘Eww, yuck!’ Don’t worry, Jesus isn’t talking about the soppy kind of love you see in Disney films. Have a think about someone you really enjoy spending time with or something you really like to do. Who and what have you missed during lockdown – family, friends, footy, dancing? The people and things you’ve just thought of are probably the people and things you really love. No doubt you would do anything to see these people or do these things again, because they’re very special to you. This is something like the kind of

love Jesus is talking about. There are loads of things I love about this week’s Bible story, but the moments I love the most are when Jesus tells his disciples that they’re his friends and that he would do anything for them – he would even die to save them. Now that’s friendship – that’s love! I wonder how different the world would be if we started loving each other in the way Jesus told his disciples to love each other. What difference would it make if we treated everyone like they were our friends and family? It’s great to know that Jesus loves us like friends, but as his friends we need to share that love with others. What could you do this week to show Jesus’ love to someone?

I

Look For Love

Below is another part of the Bible that talks about love and describes what real love is like. In the grid, find the underlined words from 1 Corinthians 13:4–7.

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, and it is not proud. Love is not rude, it is not selfish, and it cannot be made angry easily. Love does not remember wrongs done against it. Love is never happy when others do wrong, but it is always happy with the truth. Love never gives up on people. It never stops trusting, never loses hope, and never quits. (Easy-to-Read Version)

Psalm 121

The Bible book of Psalms is a collection of songs that help us to tell God how we’re feeling – whether we’re happy, excited, worried or sad. There are psalms praising and thanking God, asking for his help and reminding us that, no matter what, we can always trust him. So however you’re feeling, dig in! There’s sure to be a psalm that’s just right for you.

As we journey through life we can be confident that Jesus is with us. Whether we’re facing challenges, illnesses or things just aren’t working out the way we hoped, God is still by our sides helping us in the ways we need most. He doesn’t get tired and he doesn’t give up. So be full of courage, because every day of your future is safe and secure in God’s loving hands.

I look up to the hills, but where will my help really come from? My help will come from the Lord, the Creator of Heaven and Earth. He will not let you fall. Your Protector will not fall asleep. Israel’s Protector does not get tired. He never sleeps. The Lord is your Protector. The Lord stands by your side, shading and protecting you. The sun cannot harm you during the day, and the moon cannot harm you at night. The Lord will protect you from every danger. He will protect your soul. The Lord will protect you as you come and go, both now and for ever! (Easy-to-Read Version)

Dear God,

Thank you for your love and promises that remind me that I can confidently live my best life because you’re always with me.

Amen.

Here are some gobsmacking facts about practically everything, to boggle your brain or wow your mates…

Bananas are curved because they turn toward the sun as they grow. Baby bananas initially grow downwards from the stem with the bottoms of the fruit facing the sky. As they get bigger, the bananas stop growing downwards and start turning toward the sun, becoming curved as a result. Bananas are in fact growing against gravity – the biological name for this process is negative geotropism.

as there been some lovely sunny weather where you live? When the weather is hot it’s important to stay hydrated, and one fun way to do that is using a friendly snowman called Mr Frosty. The Mr Frosty Crunchy Ice Maker is a retro ice cruncher that you can use to make any fruit drink and also create delicious frozen treats. To make refreshing drinks simply add some ice under Mr Frosty’s hat and turn the handle to crush it. Put the crushed ice into one of the sundae dishes and use the squeaky penguin to add your favourite juice. Perfect for a summer’s day! You can also use the lolly moulds and shape trays to make even more fruity creations. Pop your favourite fruity drinks into the moulds, place them in the freezer for a while and take them out when they’re ready to eat. We know lots of our readers love their pets or would love to own a pet, so we thought you might find it fun to fill in a pet fact file. It could be about an animal you already own or your ideas about the kind of pet you’d most like. We’ve included a few fun facts about some paw-some pets to help get you thinking!

That’s Wild!

Top Dogs New dog crossbreeds are super-cute and have such cool names, such as the doxiepoo – a mix between a dachshund (sausage dog) and a toy poodle. But you might prefer a labradoodle, schnoodle, puggle, yorkipoo, pekapoo or whoodle, to name just a few…

Some cats are bred to look like big cats. The toyger looks like a toy tiger, the Bengal cat looks like a tiny leopard and the cheetoh resembles a miniature cheetah. The rare safari is a mix between a wild cat from Bolivia and a domestic cat – it has a spotted coat and yellow or green eyes.

Weird and Wonderful!

FOLD ALONG THE DOTTED LINE

Puck, a pet budgie, was listed in the 1995 edition of the Guinness Book of Records as the ‘bird with the largest vocabulary in the world’ – he could speak 1,728 words! Budgies, parakeets, parrots and cockatoos can all learn to talk but it’s thought that the hill mynah bird from South East Asia is the best at imitating the human voice. It can also learn to whistle tunes!

Perhaps you’d like a humongous hissing cockroach as a pet or maybe a big-eared fennec fox, giant African land snail, pocket-sized possum, cuddly chinchilla or mischievous marmoset. What about a hairy, scary tarantula or an axolotl – a salamander that looks like a Pokémon? There’s also the water-loving capybara, a ginormous guinea pig from South America – you’ll need a swimming pool, though!
