A dragon trained to capture princesses, a reluctant princess and a dragon-slaying knight might seem an unlikely trio for a team of flying doctors. But then Zog is fab at flying, Princess Pearl is terrific at treating the sick and injured, and Gadabout the Great longs to be a doctor. An ordinary girl from Nazareth, her carpenter husband and a newborn baby are an unlikely trio to put God’s plan to save the world into action. But then the baby is God’s son, and Mary and Joseph were willing to listen to God and do what he asked. The Christmas story is full of ordinary and unlikely characters who did extraordinary things, all because they listened to God and did what he asked. I hope you hear what God is saying to you through the Christmas story this year and that you do what you need to do to enjoy an extraordinary Christmas.

Advent Prayers
with KA! JAM Co-ordinator Ibukun Baku
The wise men
Advent is a time to prepare for Christmas. More than 2,000 years ago, God was busy preparing the world for the arrival of his son Jesus. So God asked some special people to help him – people who trusted him and were willing to do what he asked. This Advent, between putting up your decorations and writing Christmas cards, ask God to help you to be like the Christmas heroes in the Bible – willing and eager to meet Jesus.
The wise men travelled very far in search of the new king. They had seen his star in the east and had followed it all the way to Jerusalem. Arriving at King Herod’s palace they discovered their journey was far from over – the new king was nowhere to be found! However, they didn’t give up and followed the star until finally it stopped above Mary and Joseph’s house. Finding Jesus made them so happy. They presented their gifts and worshipped him. It didn’t matter to the wise men that Jesus was just a young boy, because they believed with all their hearts that Jesus truly was the Son of God. Dear God, I praise you for being our awesome and loving God. Please help me to be determined like the wise men, so that no matter what challenges come my way, I will continue to cherish my relationship with you. Amen.
KA! JAM is the cooles t Bible activity club around. As a mem ber you’ll go on amazing adventures through the Bible learning about Jesus. ost of you only have to look around your school or neighbourhood to see that there are loads of different cultures that make up your communities. I come from South Africa, so I’m part of this colourful collection of cultures in the UK. South Africa also has many people from different cultures and heritages, which is one of the reasons it’s known as the rainbow nation. In fact, it’s the same nearly everywhere. You could say we live in a rainbow world! Jesus made this rainbow world his home, beginning life as a baby in Bethlehem. He came from Heaven to Earth to save people from all kinds of cultures and backgrounds. The Bible cartoons on pages 5 and 7 are about some of the characters in the
Christmas story, who God used to show that his good news about Jesus is for everyone. Jesus’ earthly parents, Mary and Joseph, were from Palestine. Wise men from the East – maybe from Persia or southern Arabia – worshipped the Saviour King by bringing him super-expensive gifts. Hardworking shepherds in the hills around Bethlehem heard about Jesus’ birth from an angel and rushed to visit him. God made sure that wealthy scholars and poor shepherds – people from different backgrounds, cultures and countries – were included in his plan! He did this on purpose, because he loves everyone and wants people all over the world to hear about Jesus and worship him!

Help Others Unfortunately not everybody will have a fun and happy Christmas. So you could use the time between Christmas and New Year to help brighten other people’s lives and make the world a kinder place.
Do you know anyone who’s spent Christmas alone? Maybe a grandparent, someone from your church or one of your neighbours. Why don’t you put together a little hamper of treats to make them smile, or sing some songs to them while keeping your distance outside their home?
There are also people who have spent Christmas experiencing homelessness. Whether they’ve been sleeping on the streets, or are in temporary accommodation at the moment, it’s sure to have been really difficult. Why not spend some time during Twixtmas to do something to help – maybe think of some fundraising ideas for The Salvation Army or donate food or clothing to your local food bank?

Self Care As well as doing your bit to help others who might be struggling, remember to take some time during Twixtmas to look after yourself and your mental well-being. We know that for some of you Christmas won’t have been a nice time.
If you’ve lost a loved one, Christmas can be especially difficult. Don’t feel pressured to behave in a certain way, it’s OK to feel down about missing someone. If you think it will help, spend some time remembering the person you’ve lost or write a letter to them to explain your feelings and memories. It’s also a great idea to share how you’re feeling with your parents or guardians.
If you’re struggling to cope with family arguments try to find some time to do something you love – listen to your favourite music, read your favourite book or dig out pens or pencils to do some drawing and colouring. It’s also important that you tell someone how you’re feeling. If you can’t talk to your parents, perhaps an older sibling, grandparent or friend would be able to make you feel better. You can also call Childline on 0800 1111 to speak to someone about how you feel.
Outdoor Adventures If you’ve been indoors a lot over Christmas, opening presents and watching festive films, you might be craving some fresh air. Going for a walk or bike ride is a great way to lift your mood if you’re feeling a bit down after Christmas. As long as you don’t break the rules of your local coronavirus restrictions, why don’t you invite someone who is feeling lonely to join you too?
There are other ways to enjoy the great outdoors too. See if there are any walking or activity trails you can visit near you, such as a Gruffalo trail (forestryengland.uk/Gruffalo) or the Loch Lomond Faerie Trail (lochlomondfaerietrail.com). Many National Trust locations are also running Peter Rabbit trails – check out nationaltrust.org.uk/features/explore-peter-rabbit-winter-activity-trails.
y and an active lifestyle and caring Living a healthYou could also take an adventure pack with you – fill a backpack al, mental and spiritual well-being. for your physic with binoculars, a scavenger hunt sheet, magnifying glass, camera, paper and pencils and see what adventures you can find on your walk. You could even use the things you see or collect on your walk to create a Twixtmas scrapbook!
