As a teenager, I’d often get home from school to find a note from my mum with instructions telling me how to prepare our evening meal. While it felt like a bit of a pain at the time, I eventually realised I was learning how to cook. Whether it’s cooking or anything else, it’s good to learn new things that equip us for life. But even with the best instructions we all get stuck at times, so it’s nice to know help is on hand. When I didn’t understand my mum’s instructions, I knew I just had to call her to get some extra help. As Christians, we have lots of helpful instructions in the Bible. Even better, God doesn’t leave us to get on with it alone – we have the Holy Spirit by our sides and when there are things we don’t understand, Jesus is always there to help us. ots Ro

ave you ever had one of those days when it feels like everything is going wrong? You get up and there’s no hot water to have a shower, then your bus is running late, then you realise you’ve left your PE kit at home, then you fall over while playing, and it goes on like that throughout the day. They’re horrible days, aren’t they? They’re no fun at all! This is kind of what happens in this week’s Bible story. However, it’s not just one bad day – it was lots of seriously bad days! Manasseh did some terrible things while he was king. The reason all the bad things happened was because Manasseh and the people of Judah forgot about God. When we forget God, every day is a bad day!

However, the opposite of that is amazing – with God in our lives, our days can be seriously good! That doesn’t mean all our days will be perfect. We’ll still have hard times, but those times are so much easier to deal with when we’re friends with God. Being friends with God means spending time with him, so it’s a great idea to set aside some time every day to remember him. I like to talk to God after I get into bed. It’s a nice, quiet time and I can thank him for my lovely house, my family and everything I’ve enjoyed that day. Why don’t you try doing that too? Or find another time – it could be while you’re in the bath, while you’re travelling to school or as soon as you get home.

The Green Cross Code Road Safety Week runs from 16–22 November. It’s all about encouraging people to think about how to stay safe on or near roads – and that includes you! So, just in case you need to brush up on your road-crossing skills, here’s a little reminder of the Green Cross Code.

Find the safest place to cross
• If possible, cross the road at: a subway; a footbridge; a traffic isla nd; a zebra, puffin, pelican or toucan crossing; or a crossing point controlled by a police officer, sch ool crossing patrol or traffic warden. • Otherwise, choose a place where you can see clearly in all directio ns and where drivers can see you. • Try to avoid crossing between parked cars, on sharp bends or close to the tops of hills. Move to a space where drivers and riders can see you clearly. • There should be space to reach the pavement on the other side.

• Don’t get too close to the traffic. If there is no pavement, keep back from the edge of the road but make sure you can still see approaching traffic. • Give yourself lots of time to have a good look all around.

What is Bullying?

A bully might physically hurt someone or use mean words to tease or scare them. They might grab someone’s stuff, make fun of others or leave them out of a group on purpose.
Some bullies want to be popular or feel important and think bullying will make them powerful. Some of them come from homes where there is lots of anger and shouting, so they think that this is a normal way to act. Some bullies have been bullied themselves.
Cyberbullying Bullying can happen online too, when nasty comments are sent in texts, posts or chat rooms. Sometimes false, embarrassing rumours about people are created. Because many of us keep our devices with us 24 hours a day this kind of bullying can take place at any time, wherever people are, which can be very stressful.
A Big Deal! Being bullied can make people feel hurt, scared, lonely, embarrassed, worried or sad. It can cause kids to be afraid to play outside, go to school or make it difficult to focus on their schoolwork.
Bullying is never OK! It’s normal to be upset about it and it’s important to realise that it’s not your fault. The good news is there are things you can do to help stop bullying and people who can help you change things.

Top Tips to Tackle Bullying We all have a part to play in helping to stop bullying. Here are some top tips on how you can make a difference…

Tell a grown-up you trust about it, such as a parent or guardian, teacher or counsellor. It’s not telling tales – bullying is wrong and it helps everyone when you speak up.
Spend time with people who make you feel good about yourself. Someone who keeps putting you down is not a good friend.
Keep a record. Write down what happened, when it took place and who took part. If it happened online, save any photos or texts or take screenshots of messages and posts.
Be kind to others and respect them. Stick up for those who are being bullied and try to be their friend. Don’t call people names or laugh at them. If you mess up, say sorry.

Odd Socks Day We are all different in some way and that’s what makes us so special and amazing! Odd Socks Day is part of Anti-Bullying Week and takes place on Monday (16 November). It’s a fun way to celebrate that everyone is unique. To take part, ask your teacher for permission to wear odd socks to school to help raise awareness of bullying.
