t’s a big day in the world of rugby, because the 2021 Six Nations tournament kicks off in Rome. At 2.15pm today (6 February) Italy will take on France before England face fierce rivals Scotland at 4.45pm. Round one’s fixtures will be completed tomorrow when Wales go up against Ireland at 3pm. Last year’s tournament was disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic, but was eventually won by England in October. That seventh win means England have won the most titles since the tournament became the Six Nations in 2000. Italy and Scotland are yet to go on a title-winning Six Nations run – will one of them add their names to the roll of honour this year? There are five rounds of matches before the tournament concludes on Saturday 20 March, so there will be plenty of tremendous tries, super scrums and dramatic drop goals to enjoy. And the great news is all the matches will be available to watch on BBC or ITV in the UK. So grab your flags and get ready to start IRELAN cheering for your team!

Have you ever wondered why a rugby try is called a try? In the early days, when a player placed the ball over the try line it simply gave their team an opportunity to try to score a goal. I remember that when I was a kid my dad would often tell me to ‘try your best’. It didn’t matter whether or not I succeeded or reached my goal, he just wanted me to try hard. Of course, if you always ‘try your best’ you’ll start succeeding at some things and discover what you’re good at.

When I was still young, I decided to try to pray and read my Bible more often. My goal? To improve my relationship with Jesus. Guess what – my friendship with Jesus got better. I’m still trying and I feel closer to Jesus all the time. Is it time for you to give Jesus a try?

ne of the most important days of my life is a day that I don’t even remember. It was the day when my mum and dad took me to The Salvation Army and made a promise in front of the whole church. They promised to do their very best to teach me about Jesus and encourage me to live his way. In The Salvation Army we call this a dedication – other churches have similar ceremonies called a christening or a baptism. One of the cool things about the dedication ceremony is that everybody in the church is asked to stand as a way of promising to help and support the parents and the child as they grow up. I know there are people who were at my dedication who
still think of me and pray for me now. As a grown-up I’ve attended a number of dedications and stood up to promise to help and support families and children as they grow together. Whether it’s as a dad, an uncle, a family friend, a Sunday school teacher or Editor of Kids Alive! I think it’s really important to teach children about Jesus and to help look after them as they grow up. I wonder who looks after you and helps you to learn about Jesus. Take a quick moment to think about those people and use the space below to write down their names or draw a picture of them. As you write their names or draw, say a thank you prayer for the things they do for you.
Thank You, Jesus, for… Write the names or draw a picture of people who look after you and help you to learn about Jesus in the space below and say a prayer for them

Praying with Jesus
with KA! JAM Co-ordinator Ibukun Baku
NOW YOU PRAY
Prayers are special because they’re an opportunity to share everything that’s on our minds with Jesus. Prayers have the power to change how we feel by filling us with hope and courage. In the Bible there are loads of examples of prayer changing people’s situations. In 1 Thessalonians 5:17, Paul encourages believers to always pray. Using stories of Jesus from the Bible, we want to encourage you to pray too.
Use the space to write a prayer. You can thank God for your day, share any concerns or ask for courage to make the right choices.
Mark 6:14–29
John the Baptist was an honest man with a strong faith, who encouraged people to turn away from doing wrong by living God’s way instead. He was arrested for telling off King Herod for marrying his brother’s wife, Herodias. King Herod liked John, but Herodias couldn’t stand him! So, when her daughter impressed King Herod on his birthday, Herodias used the opportunity to ask for John to be killed. Herod could have protected John, but he chose to do what his wife wanted instead. If you’re a KA! JAM member, check out your KAPAC 12 to read the full story or sign up below to start your KA! Popcorn used to be banned in cinemas! Back in the early 1900s movie theatre owners didn’t want people littering cinema floors with this tasty snack or disturbing other cinemagoers with loud crunching noises. But popcorn was sold cheaply outside the cinemas and some movie-watchers used to smuggle bags of it inside. Eventually movie theatre owners realised how much money they could make from selling popcorn themselves, and the rest is history!
