Happy Christmas H

ey, readers! We hope you like the front cover of our Christmas Special. You see it’s extra special because it features a design by one of you – Lottie, who won our Christmas Card Competition. Congratulations, Lottie! We loved Lottie’s design because of its message of kindness, but also because of the elves of different ethnicities. We think it will help people to remember that it’s important to be kind to everyone, wherever they’re from and whatever they look like – not just at Christmas but all year long. Lottie’s Christmas card also reminded the Kids Alive! team of an amazing part of the Nativity. When the angels visited the shepherds they shared an important announcement – Jesus had been born! But they also told the shepherds that their message would bring great joy to all people. In fact, after the shepherds had visited Jesus, they went home praising him and sharing the good news of his birth with everyone they met. You can read the Shepherds’ Story on page 14. Actually, if you flick through to pages 4, 5, 14 and 15, you can read the whole Nativity story. It’s a great reminder of what Christmas is really about – celebrating the birth of Jesus who came to this world for everyone!

Happy Christmas! Season’s greetings! Are you full of the joy of Christmas? I expect you are! But have you noticed some people adopt rather a Grinchy attitude towards Christmas – ‘Bah! Humbug!’? I totally get that lots of people think Christmas starts too early, lasts too long and has become too commercialised. But God didn’t send the greatest gift ever (his Son Jesus) into the world, so that people could be Grinchy. The message the angels brought was a message of good news and joy! Having said all that (and without wanting to sound all ‘Bah! Humbug!’ myself) try not to get too caught up in the prezzies, food, tinsel and twinkle that come with Christmas. However the world around you marks the ‘holidays’, remember that Christmas is about the birth of the saviour of the world. Keep Jesus at the centre of your celebrations, readers, and enJOY it! HAPPY CHRISTMAS!

What are your favourite Bible verses and do you know them off by heart? If so, do you often repeat them to yourself? Reciting Scripture we’ve memorised is a great way of expressing how we feel – all our joy, hopes and concerns. It’s also a great reminder of God’s promises and enormous love for us. That’s why in Deuteronomy 18:11, we’re encouraged to place God’s word in our ‘hearts and minds’. So have a go at learning the Bible verses below… The angel said, ‘Don’t be afraid. I’m here to announce a great and joyful event that is meant for everybody, worldwide: A Saviour has just been born in David’s town, a Saviour who is Messiah and Master.’ Luke 2:10-11 (The Message)

Patch’s Pals are putting on a nativity play and Naughty Norman is in charge. Norman promised that the shepherds would have a real, live sheep but he’s left it in the field and the show is about to begin. Now Norman needs your help to make sure ‘Naughty Norman’s Nutty Nativity’ is a success! Each player gets their own sheep and the race is on to get your sheep to the finish line first, and star along with the shepherds. Grab yourself a dice, cut out the sheep counters at the top of the opposite page and off you go!
