Hands up if you thought Fairtrade was all about food. Kids Alive! has been featuring Fairtrade Fortnight for years, but it’s only this year that I realised there are all sorts of Fairtrade goods – clothes, flowers, even gold! Hands up again if you thought being a Christian was all about Jesus helping you with your problems. Well, I’ve been a Christian for years and I’m pleased to tell you that Jesus wants to hear about our glad times as well as our sad times, and all the boring average times in between. Of course, being a Christian is about more than just chatting to Jesus – it’s about reading your Bible and learning to live Jesus’ way too. And that includes treating others fairly. So over the next couple of weeks (and beyond) think about how you and your family can help as many people as possible get a fair deal.

READ THE COMMENT BELOW ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF SPENDING TIME WITH JESUS
Get Some Jesus and Me Time
I
wonder how busy you are. I’m guessing that homeschooling and the challenges that brings have been keeping you very busy recently. Then you need to make time to have fun, connect with others, exercise and relax too. We’re all busy, busy, busy! One of the things I love about reading stories of Jesus is that they show how he’s similar to us. In this week’s cartoon Bible story Jesus is very busy. But even though things were hectic, Jesus made sure he looked after himself by enjoying some ‘me time’. The Bible doesn’t actually say what he did when he spent some time by himself, but it’s probably safe to guess that he prayed – after all there are other

times when the Bible mentions Jesus spending time by himself to pray. If Jesus needed some time out from the busyness of life, we do too. I wonder how good you are at spending time with Jesus. I don’t know if you realise this, but the JAM part of KA! JAM stands for Jesus And Me. And the point of KA! JAM is to help you to learn more about Jesus, figure out how he wants you to live and help you to spend time with him. Do you need some Jesus And Me time? This week, make time to be alone with Jesus. If you feel awkward talking out loud, write, draw or paint, listen to music, dance, sing, go for a walk or just chill as you wonder about Jesus.

CHECK OUT YOUR BIBLE – LUKE 4:38–44

*This story is set in Bible times. Jesus is talking about a particular ritual that the Jewish leaders picked up on and made a fuss about. Remember, it is very important to wash your hands!
Praying with Jesus
with KA! JAM Co-ordinator Ibukun Baku
NOW YOU PRAY
Prayers are special because they’re an opportunity to share everything that’s on our minds with Jesus. Prayers have the power to change how we feel by filling us with hope and courage. In the Bible there are loads of examples of prayer changing people’s situations. In 1 Thessalonians 5:17, Paul encourages believers to always pray. Using stories from the Bible when Jesus prayed, we want to encourage you to pray too.
Use this space to write a prayer. You can thank God for your day, share any concerns or pray that people will treat others fairly based on their actions and not on how they look.
Mark 7:1–23
One day the religious leaders saw Jesus and his disciples sharing a meal together. They accused them of eating with ‘unclean hands’ because they hadn’t washed them in a particular way*. Jesus challenged them right back and said they were obsessed with following man-made rules rather than God’s rules. Jesus explained that it’s who you are on the inside that’s important, as an unclean heart could lead to the wrong attitudes and behaviour. If you’re a KA! JAM member, check out your KAPAC 15 to read the full story or sign up below to start your KA! JAM journey

Wind-blown sand from the Sahara Desert fertilises the Amazon rainforest! Every year, millions of tons of dry Saharan dust are blown by winds across the Atlantic Ocean to the humid jungle in South America. This dust is full of nutrients, such as phosphorus, which the soils in the Amazon rainforest lack because they’re washed away in heavy rainfall. Scientists believe that the rainforest’s ecosystem depends on the desert’s dust to keep it healthy.

airy tales are probably some of the earliest stories you remember hearing or reading. Most of us know all about Cinderella and her glass slipper or Little Red Riding Hood and the scary big, bad wolf. But what about the fairy tales that hardly anybody remembers? Forgotten Fairy Tales of Kindness and Courage breathes new life into a collection of once-loved, now forgotten fairy tales, beautifully retold by Mary Sebag–Montefiore. There’s the story of a disabled prince who fights for his kingdom and learns the importance of understanding others and a tale of a princess who finds the courage to rescue her friend from goblins! As well as the adventure of a girl who steps into the world of a book, only to find out what it means to be herself. These stories celebrate kindness, courage and the importance of being true to yourself! For your opportunity to win a copy of Forgotten Fairy Tales of Kindness and Courage, answer the question below and email your full name, age, address and answer to kidsalive@salvationarmy.org.uk to reach us by Friday 19 March when the winners will be chosen – remember to put ‘Forgotten Fairy Tales Competition’ in the subject box. You can also enter by filling in the details on the coupon below and posting it to: Forgotten Fairy Tales Competition, Kids Alive! 101 Newington Causeway, London SE1 6BN.
