When I watch films that involve people who are involved in dodgy schemes, I sometimes feel bad, because I find myself siding with the criminals. For example, I know that Dodger is up to no good, but I want him and his gang of lovable rogues to succeed. I’m not saying it’s OK to tell lies or take things that belong to others, but the Bible reminds us that Jesus often sided with people who did wrong things. Last week’s cartoon Bible story was about a real wrong’un called Zacchaeus. Even though he’d done some bad stuff, Jesus showed he cared for him and helped him to turn his life around. It’s important to try to be good, but all of us do wrong things. The good news is that Jesus loves us no matter what and wants to help anyone to turn their lives around – even characters like Dodger and his gang of lovable rogues.

You can check out ‘Dodger’ for yourself on CBBC at 5.30pm on Sundays. You can catch up with all the action so far on BBC iPlayer.

an you imagine what the world would be like if everyone gave up on their hopes and dreams the first time someone said no to them? If Walt Disney, Dr Seuss or Steven Spielberg had listened to those who rejected their ideas, then we wouldn’t have the wonderful films and books that we enjoy today. They were persistent in chasing their dreams and in doing so, changed the world around them. In this week’s Bible story, Bartimaeus is an example of someone who refused to take no for an answer and because of his persistence, his life was changed for ever. Before Jesus arrived in Jericho, Bartimaeus’s circumstances were bleak. Due to his blindness the only thing he could do was beg and rely on the generosity of others.

So when Bartimaeus heard that Jesus was in town, he called out to the only person he knew could help him to have the better future he hoped for. Even when people told him no, he shouted all the louder. His faith in Jesus was unwavering and because he placed his trust in Jesus – his sight was restored. Is there a challenge you’re facing or a dream you want to accomplish? Like Bartimaeus, you can call out to Jesus too. When we pray, we can share all our hopes and concerns with him – nothing is too big or too small. Jesus promises to listen to and help all those who trust him. This is the hope we have in the Good News of Jesus – that Jesus came to help us live our best life. This good news is worth sharing with all.

What is Fairtrade? Trade is unfair when farmers don’t receive very much money and have to work in really difficult situations. However, the companies that sell their products make a lot of money from the crops and products the farmers grow and produce.

Fairtrade is a way of buying and selling products such as fruit, chocolate and even clothes that allows the farmers to be paid a fair price for their produce. They also enjoy better working conditions.

There are more than 4,500 Fairtrade products sold in the United Kingdom that come from more than 70 different countries around the world. The Fairtrade Mark is a symbol on products that are sold under fair-trading conditions.

Fairtrade Fortnight Fairtrade Fortnight this year runs from 21 February to 6 March. Thousands of schools, colleges and universities across the UK will come together to learn about the people who grow our food, drinks and materials for our clothes. This year’s focus is the climate crisis and how you can choose the world you want to live in. It’s a opportunity to shine a spotlight on what the climate crisis means for people around the world who farm the products we love.

How is the Climate Crisis Connected to Fairtrade? Small-scale farmers and workers in countries such as Kenya, Ethiopia and Honduras are really affected by climate change, even though they have hardly contributed to it.

By the year 2050, many of the regions where cocoa, bananas and coffee are grown may no longer be suitable due to the changing climate. Many of the farmers growing these crops don’t have the money they need to adapt to the changing climate, because they’re never paid a fair amount for their work.

11/02/2022 14:03

Choices and Consequences You probably know that every choice you make has a consequence – big or small. If you leave your toys out, someone might trip over them. However, if you help someone, they might feel happy and grateful. If you choose Fairtrade products you will help to improve the lives of farmers and their families by allowing them the payment they deserve.

For example, if you choose to have a Fairtrade banana as a snack then banana farmers in countries such as Colombia and the Dominican Republic receive a fair payment that helps meet the needs of their communities.

Fairtrade Facts Hopefully now you know a bit more about Fairtrade. Let’s test your knowledge about some other Fairtrade facts.
