ast Sunday (6 September) a brand new space series started on CBBC. In Out of this World space scientist Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock and her daughter, and space apprentice, Lori go on a rocket-fuelled mission. Space is fascinating and humans have designed, built and sent things to space for more than 60 years. Dr Maggie and Lori’s mission is to reveal the most incredible stories about space and how it has changed our lives on Earth. In this week’s episode Dr Maggie reveals how experiments are pushing the boundaries of our knowledge of space and our lives on Earth and how they’re helping us for the future. There will also be a star guest – Helen Sharman, the first British astronaut to travel to space and who carried out experiments on the Russian Mir Space Station. On top of that, Dr Maggie will also answer more young viewers’ questions and continue the countdown of her Top 5 Biggest Space Moments. every page of There is a shooting star hidden on find them all! this week’s comic. You can watch the second episode of ‘Out of this World’ on CBBC at 9.30am on Sunday 13 September. You can also watch episode one on BBC iPlayer now.

The only prize I ever received at school was a book called Exploring Space – I won it by getting the most marks in a test following a space project we did. I remember being fascinated by space back then – I still am now! If I happen to look skywards on a clear night I become totally mesmerised by the view of the stars. If I think too long about the distance those stars are from Earth and how long ago their light began its journey to my eyes, it blows my mind! All this reminds me of Psalm 8 (look it up in your Bible, if not google it). It talks about looking up at the night sky and thinking how God created everything we see. Not only that but it reminds us that we are God’s extra-special creation and that he loves us and cares for us. Mind-blowing, eh?

Read the comment below about how God can do what seems impossible to us

Our Promise-Keeping God!

id you see the news about the eight-year-old boy who flew a hot-air balloon on his own recently? That’s an awesome achievement, but I wonder what his mates thought when he told them that he was going to fly solo in a basket more than 121 metres up in the air? Do you think they believed him? Maybe they even laughed out loud at the idea! Well, that’s similar to what happened when God told Abraham and Sarah they were going to have a baby. They didn’t really believe him, and Sarah thought it was such a funny idea that she laughed out loud. That’s not so strange, really, because they were really, really old – far too old to have kids! I think I would have laughed too.

Abraham and Sarah thought what God said about them having a baby was impossible, but God is a miracle-working God and is able to do things that seem impossible to us. The Bible is full of miracles! Not only that, God is faithful, which means he never breaks his promises and will always love us. Sometimes, like Abraham and Sarah, we have to wait a long time for God to answer our prayers. Sometimes the answer is different to what we expected. But if you’re praying for something, even something that seems impossible – and if it’s part of God’s plan and promises – be patient and keep on trusting him. He knows what’s best for us and will never let us down!

CRISS-CROSS Complete the words in each grid by writing the missing letter in the blank spaces. The letters in the blue boxes will spell out a new word that links to this week’s cartoon Bible story.

Living Like Jesus – Loving Your Neighbour Written by KA! JAM Co-ordinator Ibukun Baku – illustrated by Steve English

Did you know that the most important commandments in the Bible are to love God and to love your neighbour? Jesus was great at doing this, so let’s follow his example by loving God and our neighbours too.

Sheep and Goats

Jesus told a parable explaining what would happen when he returned to Earth. He said that he would separate people in the way a shepherd would separate sheep from goats. The ‘sheep’ would be made up of everyone who had shown acts of mercy towards others, such as feeding the hungry, taking care of the homeless and sick, donating clothes to people in need and visiting those in prison. Their reward would be to live in Heaven for ever. However, the ‘goats’ who didn’t show any acts of mercy would not be welcomed into Heaven.

Living Like Jesus

Jesus used this parable to show the difference between his real friends and those who just pretend to be. The kind acts described reveal how much people really care for the most vulnerable in their communities. Jesus wants his followers to show their faith by their actions.

Loving Your Neighbour

Do you have a friend or know a family member that might be going through a difficult time at the moment? Why not deliver a care package to them or donate some food or clothes to a charity that helps others?

KA! JAM is the cooles t Bible activity club around. As a member you’ll go on amazing adventures through th e Bible learning about Jesus. Before toilet paper was available, some people used straw, dried corncobs or newspaper! Rolled and perforated toilet paper was only invented around 1880, but it was still some time before you could buy lovely, soft toilet paper. In 1935, one company advertised ‘splinter-free’ toilet paper because early paper production sometimes left splinters embedded in the paper! St Andrew’s Mills in London introduced two-ply toilet paper in 1942, which was similar to the paper we use today.

Awesome Archie

All proceeds of Archie’s b ook are going to his primary school whic h has suppo rted him so well. If you’d like to know more about Archie ’s amazing pro ject, visit awesomear chie.co.uk. You can also order a copy of Awesome Archie and Mickey (The Fedora Wea ring Super Puss) by emailing archie@thec lappers.co.u k.

Lockdown has been difficult for many of us, but some people have used this time to do something amazing. Archie, a junior soldier and Kids Alive! fan from Boscombe Salvation Army, has written and illustrated a book with his mum, Rebecca. Archie has autism and a variety of other differing needs and the book, called Awesome Archie and Mickey (The Fedora Wearing Super Puss), explains a little about how Archie sees the world. At the beginning of lockdown, once it was clear that Archie wouldn’t be returning to his mainstream school, he and his family decided to create this book to commemorate the amazing journey they had been on together. Giving the book to the school was Archie’s way of saying ‘thank you’ for all the years of incredible support he’s received. We think this is awesome, Archie!
