FUNDRAISING IDEAS Trafficking in people is big business. That means it needs a big response. With your help we can continue to bring relief and restoration to those who have been victims of human trafficking, and protect those who are vulnerable by informing them of the dangers of trafficking and the reality of the false hope offered by traffickers. There are lots of different things that you and your group can do to raise money. Here are just a few ideas:

TALENT AUCTION Hold a talent auction and freely share something of your skills and talents to support those whose skills are exploited through human trafficking.

SPONSORED CRY FREEDOM WALK Go on a sponsored CRY FREEDOM Walk around your community, stopping at various places that could represent markers in the story of a trafficked person. This could include someone’s home, a transport hub (ie, a bus or train station), police station, shops/business park and a church/corps. As well as fundraising, this could also double as a prayer walk where you pray for those who can have an impact in each of those settings.

ORGANISE A TRAVEL STORIES EVENING By its very nature human trafficking involves travel and the transportation of people from one place to another.

Organise a travel stories evening for people to bring their best holiday snaps and share their travel stories with each other. You could also arrange a meal that reflects some of the experiences and places visited by those attending. Set some time aside to talk about the travel experiences of trafficking victims and raise awareness of the local and global issues involved. Set an entry fee or ask for donations towards The Salvation Army’s international anti-trafficking response.

CHAIN OF PAPERCLIPS Use a public display space in your building to build a chain of paperclips. Ask people to sponsor a paperclip and add it to the chain to show solidarity for those held captive through trafficking and to create a visual petition about the issue and The Salvation Army’s response.

PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION Run a CRY FREEDOM-themed photography competition asking people to take shots of things that represent freedom for them. You could charge an entry fee for submissions and create an exhibition of all the submitted photographs.

JUMBLE SALE OR SWAP SHOP Hold a jumble sale or swap shop and give a new lease of life to the things that people no longer need.

FAIRTRADE TEA PARTY Host your very own Fairtrade Tea Party. Get people to dust off their best china and bring it along to share in tea and cakes together.

ARTS AND CRAFTS SESSION Put on an arts and crafts session to make things which can then be sold to raise money, or simply charge an entrance fee for everyone taking part.

MAKING PAPER BEAD JEWELLERY Making paper bead jewellery out of old newspapers and magazines is another great way of making something which can then be sold to raise money. See www.wikihow.com/Make-Paper-Beads for instructions and ideas.

TREASURE HUNT Organise a Treasure Hunt. Divide the group into teams and leave clues in different places. Each clue should lead to the location of the next until eventually finding the treasure itself. There could be a prize for the winners, or something for everyone taking part. You can be as ambitious as you want with this. It could all take place in one building, or for something more adventurous it could use cars and cross all over the town/district.

GIVE UP Think of something that you can give up that you may have become a slave to. It could be something consumable (eg, coffee or chocolate) or a bad habit (eg, spending too much time on Facebook or biting your nails). You can each save up the money you save and donate this or get sponsorship.

HOST A PUDDING/CAKE NIGHT Get everyone to bring something or lay on a spread for a small donation. Use the evening to talk about the issue of trafficking and think about how else you can raise funds.
