Caring for the Community They Love
Cameron Thun and his wife Tammy are shining examples of humanity in their community of Prince George. Both were inspired early on in life by their parents’ support of and use of The Salvation Army and as parents themselves, they hope their legacy will be passed onto their children.

As generous donors to The Army for the past 10 years, the Thun family has supported the back-to-school program, donating over $30,000 in gift cards to outfit children with new shoes and clothes, contributed $40,000 to the renovations and construction of the Food Bank waiting room of the Curt Garland Community Support Centre, and even provided a substantial donation to help the Centre purchase a much-needed forklift.
“When I first met Cam, I quickly realized that you definitely can’t judge a book by its cover,” says Bill Glasgow with The Salvation Army in Prince George. “When you look beneath the rough exterior, you find a man driven to give back to his community, not for personal fame, but to make the world (and community) a better place.”
Charitable at heart, the family supports other organizations, but according to Cameron, “…you believe in the Lord but do not base (your) help on a person’s spiritual choice. You help regardless of their beliefs.” He goes on to say that “…we own a business in the VLA and I see the outreach that The Army has in the area, and it’s just amazing how many people you help. You make a big difference in this community; you reach a lot of people, and you do a lot of good in this world.”
Born and raised in Prince George, Cameron feels that he and Tammy have had a great life because of the community they live in, “…and it is our civic duty to help those who are needing some help.” When asked what he would like to see happen in his community, his answer was enlightening, “I would like to see the public not look down on homeless people, and rather than shuttle them from place to place to place, actually try to do something to help them... I would like to see more solidarity to address the homeless issues.”
“On more than one occasion, I have witnessed Cam living this out,” says Glasgow. “There are many times where he’ll wake up, decide he needs to give back to the community, get in his car, and drive around town dropping off $1,000 cheques to charitable organizations to help our community’s most vulnerable. He and Tammy are truly amazing people.”
When thanked for their generosity and support of The Salvation Army and the community of Prince George, Cameron said, “Giving to The Army is the right thing to do to make the world a better place. A smile, money, anything that you can give can make this world a better place.”
