About Us The Salvation Army is an international Christian organization that began its work in Canada in 1882. Outside of the government, we are the largest direct-provider of social services in the country. Our programs and services feed, clothe and shelter vulnerable people every day, while helping others escape violence and addiction. The Honourable Janet Austin, OBC Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia We are pleased to announce the Honourable Janet Austin, OBC, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia as our keynote speaker at this year’s annual Hope in the City Luncheon.

Prior to being sworn into office in 2018, Her Honour spent 15 years as Chief Executive Officer of YWCA Metro Vancouver, and earlier as Executive Director of Big Sisters of the Lower Mainland. As such, she knows and understands the challenges that we face as a non-profit organization and as a society. We are excited to hear her insights into both and look forward to her impassioned style as she helps us understand how to improve the lives of those in our communities who need our support.
