From Early Exploration to Academic Excellence The Saltus journey is designed to build confident, capable learners who grow and succeed at every stage.

Lower Primary — Reggio-Inspired Early Learning: Originating in Reggio Emilia, Italy, this child-centered approach aligns with the BC Early Learning Framework by viewing children as capable, active participants who construct knowledge through exploration and relationships. It fosters curiosity, creativity, and early literacy and numeracy through hands-on, inquiry-based experiences. The environment, especially nature, is seen as the “third teacher,” providing rich, open-ended opportunities for discovery, connection, and student-led learning.

Upper Primary: Our Upper Primary students continue to build core competencies by actively questioning, exploring, and creating.

Our proven curriculum values diverse thinking while developing skills like critical thinking, collaboration, and communication. Students also engage in leadership opportunities, clubs, athletics, and personal interests.

Secondary School: Throughout their Secondary School experience, students strengthen collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving through interdisciplinary projects that connect learning to real life and begin exploring their strengths and passions through authentic learning experiences. Students deepen their learning through specialized subjects, within a studentcentred environment that prioritizes social and emotional growth. They develop as ethical, globally minded individuals while engaging in leadership, clubs, arts, and athletics.

In their senior years, rigorous academic courses, leadership and service opportunities, career education, and Advanced Placement options prepare students for university success and global citizenship through the BC Graduation Diploma.

Career Education: Preparing for Life Beyond the Classroom A distinctive strength of the BC Curriculum is the integration of Career Education from Kindergarten through Grade 12. Assessment & Reporting How We Measure Growth Assessment at Saltus is more than a grade; it’s a partnership for progress. Teachers use formative (ongoing) and summative (end-of-unit) assessments to help students set goals, reflect, and celebrate progress. Students regularly engage in self-assessment to take ownership of their learning.

How Parents Stay Informed • Three Formal Reports with teacher comments • Two Informal Updates (conferences or digital check-ins) • Proficiency Scales (K–9) that describe growth over time • Letter Grades and Percentages (10–12) aligned with university expectations

Key Benchmarks Foundation Skills Assessments (FSAs) – Grades 4 & 7 FSAs provide important benchmarks in Literacy and Numeracy and offer valuable information to families and schools about student progress in core skills. Results help teachers tailor instruction and guide school improvement (they do not count toward report card grades.)

Graduation Assessments – Grades 10–12 Students complete three mandatory BC Graduation Assessments: • Literacy and Numeracy in Grade 10 • Literacy 12 These assessments evaluate students’ ability to apply knowledge: analyzing, reasoning, and communicating effectively, key skills for life beyond school.

Graduation Pathway To earn the BC Graduation Diploma, students must complete: • 80 credits (core and elective courses) • 3 Graduation Assessments (Literacy 10, Numeracy 10, Literacy 12) • A Capstone Project connecting learning to personal goals Our faculty and guidance teams partner with families to create personalized learning pathways that reflect each student’s strengths, passions, and aspirations.
