THE SALISBURY ADVANTAGE Choosing Salisbury School means entering a community specifically designed for how boys learn, mature, and succeed. On the Hilltop, each student is at the center of a close-knit and supportive Brotherhood. Within this all-boys environment, students build confidence and develop the courage to take intellectual risks across a rich, traditional curriculum—from the humanities and sciences to unique hands-on courses in media arts and entrepreneurship. High academic standards are paired with mentorship and dedicated support, teaching boys to read critically, write persuasively, and think independently. Learning extends far

beyond the classroom through structured leadership initiatives, robust athletic programs, and community service, which foster integrity, empathy, and accountability. At Salisbury School, the experience is defined not only by rigorous academics but also by the people who shape the community, the program that balances structure with growth, and the extraordinary setting of the Hilltop itself. The Salisbury experience does more than prepare boys for college success; it transforms them into men of honor, resilience, and purpose ready to lead in a complex world.

What makes us

DIFFERENT?

1

A basis in research

Salisbury is defined by an intentional, research-backed approach that shapes every aspect of our academic and campus life. We are a community that brings to life best practices in boys’ education.

2

A faculty with average tenure among the longest in independent schools

Our faculty are experts in teaching boys. Salisbury retains its faculty members—because that ensures the best educational experience for your son.

3

A physical community specifically designed to foster relationships

By design, Salisbury School fosters a deeply interconnected community where mountain views, a tight-knit campus, and a common sense of Brotherhood turn daily routines into shared experiences. From familiar faces crossing the quad to gathering for meals, every aspect of student life is intentional, and the Hilltop feels like a second home.

6

Relational learning means we love the boys. We look him in the eye, we shake his hand, we smile, we listen, we laugh together, we put our arm around him, we hug him, we celebrate him, and sometimes we even tell him that we love him. Once one of our guys knows that he is loved, we can push him and be hard on him and inspire him to become his best self. I think that has a lot to do with what people feel when they say they feel something special when they visit here. Our boys are loved, and that empowers them to love each other.” — Math Instructor, Coach and Third Form Dorm Parent

LIFE AT SALISBURY

6:30 a.m. Whether students start their day with Polar Plunge, an early workout, meet with a teacher during office hours, or grab a bit of extra sleep, campus is stunning at dawn. Afterwards, they can grab breakfast in the dining hall before classes begin.

8:30 a.m. Community is at the heart of the Salisbury schedule, bringing students and faculty together on a daily basis. On Tuesday and Friday mornings, Chapel provides a time for the community to gather, reflect, enjoy music, and hear inspiring wisdom from Sixth Form talks. On Wednesdays and Saturdays, School Meeting is held outdoors at the Senior Steps. Led by the School President, this tradition marks a time for announcements, sharing news, and feeling the spirit of Sarum.

9:15 a.m. Classes meet four times each week and rotate daily. Because boys often learn differently and experience shifts in focus and energy throughout the day, this rotation becomes an important tool in supporting your academic success and builds college-level time management. Unlike many schools, we have ten-minute breaks between classes—enough time to grab a snack or stop and talk with friends.

8

12:30 p.m. Students refuel in the dining hall at midday—including a weekly family-style lunch with their advisor group—before heading into X-block. X-block is a dedicated, class-free block designed for connection. They can use this time to get extra help from teachers, check in with their advisor, meet with extracurricular groups, or take a music lesson. Then, they round out their day with their afternoon class schedule.

3:15 p.m. The energy shifts to the fields, the lake, the rink, robotics lab, and the media studio. While Salisbury has a storied legacy of athletic excellence, the true value of the afternoon lies in character development. This is where students foster essential skills, learn the nuances of teamwork, and build lasting confidence.

6:45 p.m. Following dinner, students head to evening study hall in their dorms, the library, or supervised spaces— with faculty living right down the hall for academic support or a friendly chat. After study hall, boys unwind at the gym, hang with friends, or grab a snack at Belin— these moments are where the bonds of Brotherhood deepen.

A Salisbury education thrives on “boy energy” —that mix of curiosity, humor, and heart. Because we live and learn together, faculty know our boys deeply and guide them through the moments that matter. In classrooms, dorms, and fields alike, we build safe, high-expectation spaces where boys discover not just what they can do, but who they can become.” — Dean of Academic Life P’27

Your Faculty Advisor Every student is thoughtfully assigned a faculty advisor who serves as his primary mentor and his parents’ main point of contact. From course selection to personal support, advisors guide each student’s growth and help him make the most of his Salisbury experience.

OUR FACULTY Salisbury faculty serve as far more than classroom teachers—they are dedicated advisors, coaches, and mentors invested in every aspect of a boy’s growth. Grounded in a deep understanding of how boys learn best, our teachers pursue continuous professional growth to refine their craft and maintain academic excellence. Because nearly all our faculty live on campus, guidance extends well beyond the classroom. Whether supervising study hall, coaching on the field, sharing meals in the dining hall, or welcoming boys into their homes, teachers build deep, trusting relationships. Their commitment ensures that every boy is both known and supported, fostering an environment where young men develop confidence, resilience, and integrity.

Students receive one-on-one instruction from professionally trained learning specialists during the academic day. Support plans are individualized and developed by the Director of the Rudd Learning Center, then refined throughout the school year to meet each student’s evolving needs. LEARNING TO LEAD: Character, Engagement, and Impact Salisbury School has been steadfast in its vision to cultivate leaders. Salisbury strives to instill within each student character traits we value as a community, starting with a boy’s first day on the Hilltop. Our goal is to guide each boy in identifying and developing within himself key skills that will allow him to confidently lead in a variety of endeavors. These leadership skills are taught through all aspects of School life—including in the classroom, through time in advisor groups, participation in the arts, experiences in athletics, within our residential setting, and through meaningful off-campus experiences like local outreach, and immersive global leadership expeditions. Leadership has always been at the heart of a Salisbury education. More than one-third of our students take on formal leadership roles, from Prefects and Form Representatives to Orientation Leaders and team captains. These experiences, supported by intentional programming like the Erdmann/Salisbury Signature Leadership Program and the Third Form Seminar, help boys build the vision, skills, and moral compass needed to lead with purpose.

All students at Salisbury take part in the arts during their time on the Hilltop. THE THIRD FORM EXPERIENCE The Third Form year is a special one at Salisbury. The boys live together in Ward Dormitory, forming lasting bonds while sharing most of their classes and also taking part in programs and experiences designed to support younger students as they transition into boarding school life. This intentional structure eases their transition and fosters a close-knit, collaborative community. The Third Form Knight Life program creates an environment where the boys can openly discuss their experiences on campus while receiving guidance, encouragement, and support from faculty and older students alike. An academic class, Third Form Seminar, is held twice weekly to cultivate good character, emotional well-being, and the habits that allow boys to thrive both in and beyond the classroom.

COLLEGE ADVISING Applying to college is not as simple as filling out a university’s application and providing a writing sample. The competitive process is complex and can be confusing. Salisbury’s College Advising Office guides students and families throughout the search and application process, helping to identify the schools that best match the passions each graduate wishes to pursue. Salisbury strives to make the college advising process a partnership among each student, his parents, and the School. We offer guidance, resources, and tools to make this individually tailored selection process as smooth as possible. Uniquely, we begin these conversations in the Third Form year. Our ultimate goal is, of course, to ensure that students select colleges where they will be successful, challenged, and happy. Find out more at: salisburyschool.org/academics/college-advising
