Cultural Cooperative Unveils Salina Arts & Entertainment Calendar Developing a cultural and entertainment calendar isn’t as easy as it sounds. “See that information about arts, culture, and heritage offerings regularly reach all Salinans” was one of the 58 strategies identified in the Big Ideas Cultural Plan, shaped by more than 1200 residents and visitors to Salina and was adopted in 2009.

Since that time, various online calendars have been implemented, making information available but cumbersome from a user standpoint. Visitors and residents had far too many choices regarding where to access complete information on arts and cultural offerings. “It was important for us to develop a new way to provide the public with easy to find information in an affordable and practical way”, commented SAH Executive Director Brad Anderson.

Responding to this problem, Visit Salina and Salina Arts & Humanities have partnered to develop a new single-source website with an easy to access calendar that can be searched and sorted by the viewer’s interests. Salina Arts & Entertainment – found at www.SalinaAE.com – strives to provide relevant information, in an engaging presentation, about Salina as a cultural and entertainment destination. It features arts experiences, as well as other entertainment options from rodeos to car shows.

At its core, SalinaAE.com is a calendar, but a calendar that has been carefully designed to be accessible, easily navigated and user-friendly overall. It concentrates on events that have a strong local and regional appeal, and that best illustrate the rich offerings to be found in our community. Contributing

agencies who populate SalinaAE.com include Salina Community Theatre, Stiefel Theatre, Salina Art Center & Cinema, Smoky Hill Museum, Access TV, Rolling Hills Zoo, Salina Downtown, SculptureTour Salina, Salina Public Library, Yesteryear Museum, Tony’s Pizza Events Center, Kansas Wesleyan University, Salina Arts & Humanities, Visit Salina and other nearby cultural partners. Visit Salina and Salina Arts & Humanities will work to market SalinaAE.com both to local residents, and to potential visitors.

SalinaAE.com will serve as an important resource for arts and culture organizations, citizens, and visitors to learn more about exhibits, concerts, theatre events, education programs, and hundreds of other local and regional cultural and entertainment events.

“Unveiling SalinaAE.com is a huge step in marketing Salina as an arts and entertainment destination,” said Sylvia Rice, Visit Salina Director of the Chamber. “We are very excited about the potential this new asset provides to target audiences with our cultural story.”

The new calendar should make planning a night out or a weekend visit easier and more enjoyable. The cultural venues will likely experience increased attendance as information becomes easier to access. Most importantly, Salina’s excellent collection of arts, cultural, heritage and entertainment offerings will be easy to find and reflect the positive impact they have on making this a very special place to explore, engage, and experience the arts.

OCCK’S fixed route bus service from Belleville to Salina, 81 Connection, will continue complimentary fares for all riders through the end of December 2017. Starting January 2, 2018, regular fares will apply. Basically one-way fares are $1.00 from town to town. A trip from Belleville to Salina will cost $4.00. A Salina CityGo bus pass is included in the Salina fare. For more information about the 81 Connection and Kansas Rides, visit www.ksrides.org.

The SERVICE AUXILIARY OF SALINA REGIONAL HEALTH CENTER, 400 S. Santa Fe, will host a holiday Parade of Homes on December 10 from 1-5pm. Ten homes will be featured on the self-guided tour. Tickets are available for $15 at the SRHC Gift Shop, or from any Auxiliary board member. Funds raised will be used to further the Auxiliary’s projects.

KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY POLYTECHNIC, 2310 Centennial Road, cut the ribbon on a new wind turbine and solar panels on Nov. 8.The energy-efficient additions to campus are outside of the Student Life Center. The building will see the benefit of the alternative energy production, while the campus now has the first pieces in place for its goal to become more energy efficient and increase its sustainable energy production.

Integrating the wind and solar technology into the hands-on education model of the campus was a key selling point. The technology provides multiple opportunities for collaboration across campus, including biannual safety inspections of the turbine via drone — one area of national recognition for Kansas State Polytechnic.

Ambassador of the Month Steve Murrison, owner of The Murrison Group and the Steve Murrison Agency Farmers Insurance Group, has been named the Chamber’s Steve Murrison “Ambassador of the year”. “Despite the fact that this is Steve’s first year as an Ambassador, he has done a phenomenal job. This year he has recruited 22 new Chamber members,” said Don Weiser, President/CEO of the Chamber.

For his efforts, Steve will be honored during the Chamber’s Annual Membership Meeting and Banquet on January 30, 2018 at the Tony’s Pizza Events Center.

Chamber Collaborates on Upcoming Business Seminars The Salina Area Chamber of Commerce will host Mike Henke and his workshop entitled “The New Keys to Retaining Employees” on Wednesday, December 6th, from 8-10am. This learning workshop will be held at the Chamber’s Visit Salina Annex, 120 W. Ash. Henke’s presentation will focus on how to retain employees long-term, and how to increase employee engagement. Three things that the interactive workshop will highlight are the keys to retention, how much pay really matters, and the proven solutions for any organization. The workshop is $40 for Chamber members and $80 for non-members.

The Salina Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting “Uncovering Leadership Blind Spots: Discovering the Pathway to Motivating Your Employees” on Wednesday, December 13 from 8-10am. The workshop will be presented by the Dale Carnegie Training – Kansas Heartland, at the Visit Salina Annex, 120 W. Ash. The topics that will be covered in the workshop will include identifying which leadership trends may be impacting your organization and ways to identify your organizations leadership performance gaps.

The workshop is FREE to Salina Area Chamber of Commerce Members.
