Salina Downtown, Inc. Business Improvement District is excited to welcome Spencer Griffin to the team! Spencer is our new (first ever) Downtown Aesthetic Specialist (DAS). The DAS is an outside visible face of our organization. This role will deliver an important level of service that property owners, business tenants, residents and visitors will come to love.

As the eyes, ears and caretaker of downtown Salina, the DAS in uniform is a roving concierge, hands-on helper and a goodwill ambassador for the Business Improvement District. Spencer will create a clean and welcoming Spencer Griffin environment and ensure that the downtown experience is a remarkable one for all.

The DAS position was established upon the mission of Salina Downtown Inc. “to champion a healthy and vibrant downtown community.” Be sure to welcome Spencer when you see him out in the downtown community!

Chamber Announces a Royal Speaker for Annual Meeting!

Dayton Moore, Senior Vice President-Baseball Operations/ General Manager of the Kansas City Royals, will be the featured speaker at the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet and Membership Meeting, Tuesday, January 30, 2018. The banquet will be held in the Arena of the Tony’s Pizza Events Center beginning at 6:30pm. A membership networking reception will be held from 5-6:15pm in Heritage Hall.

A silent auction featuring Kansas City Royals memorabilia will be held during the Membership Reception. Also, autographed copies of Mr. Moore’s recent book, “More than a Season,” will be sold in the Events Center lobby. All proceeds from Dayton’s speaking engagement, book sales, and auction will go to his “C” You in the Major Leagues Foundation.

The Foundation was created to support youth baseball, education, families in crisis and faithbased programs and organizations.

“We are extremely excited to have Dayton Moore as the featured speaker for our Annual Banquet,” stated Guy Walker, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Chamber. “He is a tremendous speaker with a great message. We are looking

The banquet will be held in the arena of the Events Center, at tables of eight which includes dinner. Tickets for Chamber members are $60 per person for the banquet.

Tickets for non-members are $85 per person for the banquet. Reservations can be made by Chamber members now through November 30 by calling the Chamber office ticket hotline at 785-827-9310, ext. 123, stopping by the Chamber office, 120 W. Ash, or via email to Sandy Cole at scole@salinakansas.org. Tickets will go on sale to the general public beginning December 1.

Tickets will be reserved on a first-come, firstserve basis.

The evening will consist of remarks by outgoing Chairman Guy Walker and incoming Chairman Mark Ritter, a brief review of the Chamber’s accomplishments in 2017, and the address by Dayton Moore.

Visit Salina congratulates the Hilton Garden Inn Hotel and Convention Center, 3320 S. Ninth, on their recent opening! The new facility features 10,000 square feet of meeting space and 97 sleeping rooms. “We are very excited to have this beautiful, new ‘under one roof’ facility to attract new meeting and event planners,” said Jo Ann McClure, convention sales manager for Visit Salina.

The Kansas Society of Association Executives (KSAE) featured the sales team from the new property, Director of Sales Dana Bronson and Sales Manager Gala Bloyd, along with McClure on the cover of their new magazine for association executives and planners. “The opening of the Hilton Garden Inn and Convention Center significantly enhances Salina’s ability to attract state and regional groups,” said Sylvia Rice, Visit Salina Director.

Good Sports!

Visit Salina is excited to host the KSHSAA 4A DII State Football Championship, November 25 (the Saturday after Thanksgiving Day) at Salina Stadium. Volunteers for this event are vital to our success. We need volunteers to sell tickets, programs and t-shirts, take tickets, secure the pass gate, and a few other tasks. A Picture is Worth a Dollars Thousand Words…and Social Engagement, Too! Sense CrowdRiff is a program that brings great visuals to life! With CrowdRiff, Visit Salina is able to gather and showcase user-generated photos and videos on our website.

The galleries we have featured are created from travelers, visitors or locals using a specific hashtag, location or keyword pulled from Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. We are then able to grab those photos, pick out which ones best fit that specific gallery, and feature those photos on our website. CrowdRiff also provides an opportunity for us to engage the photographer who posted, thank them, and encourage them to bring their social friends to our galleries.

SALINA ART CENTER, 242 S. Santa Fe, has named Misty Serene to the position of director of institutional advancement. In her role, she oversees public relations, communications, marketing, memberships, and fundraising for the organization. Most recently Serene served as director of advancement for Prairie View, Inc., a mental health and addiction treatment facility in Newton, KS. In 2005, she completed her bachelor of science degree in leadership studies at Fort Hays State University. She also completed courses in fundraising management, planned giving, major gifts, and fund development sustainability at Indiana University-Purdue University’s School of Philanthropy in Indianapolis.

A Bachelor of Science in secondary education with a technology education endorsement is being launched at KANSAS STATE POLYTECHNIC in fall 2018. The degree option is a collaboration with the University’s

College of Education and is designed to help address state and national needs for more science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM, educators. Enrolled students will study mechanical, electronic and computer systems curriculum through Kansas State Polytechnic’s engineering technology program while the education pedagogy will be supported by the College of Education.
