einäkuussa 1997 syntyneet Veera ja Oona Kauppi edustavat Suomen maajoukkueen juniorikaartia. Veera on joukkueen kuopus, sillä Oona syntyi minuutin ennen häntä. He saivat ensimmäiset salibandymailansa ristiäislahjaksi ja aloittivat sählykerhossa 6-vuotiaina. Taidot ovat karttuneet erityisesti ahkeralla omatoimisella harjoittelulla. Edelliset kaksi vuotta Kaupit ovat treenanneet yhä tavoitteellisemmin. Ennen he tekivät työtä käskettyä, nyt henkilökohtainen motivaatio harjoitteluun on kasvanut. Kisakutsu ei vaatinut taikatemppuja. – Olemme tehneet kovasti töitä ja ansainneet siten paikkamme maajoukkueessa, Veera Kauppi kiteyttää.

Kauppi twins at home Veera and Oona Kauppi, 18, are the youngest floorball players in the Finnish National Team. The Kauppi twins will make their debut in the Women’s Floorball World Championships in their home city Tampere. They are aiming for the title. TWO YEARS AGO VEERA AND OONA KAUPPI, who are from Tampere, were sitting in the cafeteria of their floorball club Tampere Koovee and answering to questions by media representatives. The floorball enthusiasts in Finland already knew who and how talented the Kauppi twins were. But back then they didn´t even dream about playing in the Finnish National Team in the home World Championships in December 2015. But in the end it wasn’t just a dream. Veera and Oona are now 18 years old and will carry the flag for the Finnish team in World Championships in Tampere. – Of course this is a great thing. Our sport careers are only

in their early stages and we are already able to experience this. It also gives us more motivation to train, Veera says. Parents help keep feet on the ground Before last summer, Veera and Oona couldn´t even imagine that they would be part of the National Team in Tampere. – In the fall of 2013, I didn´t even think it would be possible. I wasn’t chosen to the National Team until last summer, Oona tells. Veera, the blond one, made her debut in the Women’s National Team in the fall of 2014, but she also set the goal to Tampere only six months ago. – Everything has happened quite fast. It always makes you nervous to go to a new team but there have been no problems in adjusting to the Women’s National Team, Veera tells. The twins’ parents have helped their daughters keep their feet on the ground. – We keep ourselves focused on the main thing, Oona says. Kauppi girls are waiting for noise Kauppi twins are the only players born in Tampere in the

Finnish team. – The World Championships are played at home. That’s why the media and friends pay attention to us, Veera tells. The Kauppis are not the only ones who are sisters in the team. There are also Eliisa and Ella Alanko from Turku and twins Karoliina and Elina Kujala from Nurmijärvi. The Kauppi twins have been described as the prodigy twins as they are also very talented football players. They are supported by their parents and coaches, which makes it possible for them to be on the top in both sports. Veera and Oona make a great pair on the field. In the Finnish National Team they don’t necessarily play in the same line. They have not played in a sports arena as big as Hakametsä ice stadium before, are expecting close support and loud noise to spur the home team. – It will be totally different to play in the Finnish National Team in front of the home crowd. It is a cliché to speak of the crowd as the sixth player on the field for the team but I think it’s true, Oona ponders. They only have one goal. To win the title. •
