DAY 1: 4.12. 2010

8th WFC was opened with Thunder and Lightning 8th edition of the Men´s WFC was opened officially before the game FIN-DEN with a spectacular show. After Jukka Juntti´s acrobatic show with rope and StepUp dancers performance, thunder and lightning filled up the Hartwall Arena. Mr. Tomas Eriksson brought the greeting from IFF likewise Mr. Matti Ahde from SSBL. Czech forward Milan Friedrich had the honour to greet audience on behalf of the participating teams and players.

Over 5000 spectators witnessed the Finnish Victory The Reigning World Champion Team Finland started their WFC with a victory as Denmark was beaten with 8-1 (2-0, 4-1 2-0) to the delight of 5 376 spectators at Hartwall Areena. The two points did not come easily, though, as Denmark fought back stubbornly denying the Finns their scoring opportunities for long periods of time. Denmark let Finland control the ball but defended their goal wisely. It was Denmark who had the first big chance of the game, hitting the post in the first period. There were two minutes left in the clock when a well-known duo opened the scoring. Two years ago, Rickie Hyvärinen passed and Tero Tiitu netted the last goal of WFC 2008. This time it was the other way around as Hyvärinen scored on Tiitu's pass. In the next shift, Harri Forsten scored number two with Juha Kivilehto getting the assist. Oscar Hänninen and Mikko Kohonen gave the audience reason to celebrate, and with three and a half minute to go in the period, Forsten made it 5-0 from a tight angle. The biggest goal celebration of the game was seen when Denmark intercepted Finland's attack at the midline and Christoffer Pahle's shot found its way to the net via Henri Toivoniemi's hands. The game slowed down in the third period but Finland was able to score two more goals. Tero Tiitu celebrated the final one with "applause" on sign language.

Singapore under Polish Fire in Vantaa In the opening match of group B Singapore faced Poland. Saturday's last game in Vantaa ended in Poland's victory 4–10 (1–4, 2–2, 1–4). Poland had a commanding control through the game by 88 shots on goal. Despite this Singapore was the first to strike, as Lim Jun Sheng McKenrick found the net at just 38 seconds. Mattias Mikulski added lead twice in the end of the first period, and the buzzer rang with Poland standing on a comfortable 1–4 lead. Mikulski finished his hat trick in the second period, and the break came when Poland led 3–6. The final period was completely of Polish control, but the goals were hard to come by. Though Singapore had a consolation goal with a penalty shot, three fast goals within the last minute by Poland meant the Singaporeans fell by the final score of 4–8.
