Our secluded and gated campus, established in 1960, spans 21 acres surrounded by majestic redwood and pine trees, Wildcat Creek and flowering gardens. Salesian cultivates global citizens who positively impact their communities and our world.� Salesian has a course of study for all students including Honors and Advanced Placement, Concurrent Enrollment, Academic Success, as well as opportunities to learn by teacher lead international travel. Our aim is to prepare our graduates to be successful at top-tier colleges and universities, and to be socially-responsible young adults. Salesian emphasizes and balances academic achievement, co-curricular involvement and personal development. Students are presented with numerous opportunities to explore and hone their academic skills in addition to their personal interests and talents. In addition to academic success and travel opportunities abroad, SCP students feel supported and part of a community
Honors and Advanced Placement Qualified students are invited to enroll in our Honors at Entrance program when they are accepted into Salesian. Honors and AP classes are offered in many academic departments. Students have the ability to create a course of study tailored to their interests and ability level. High School Placement Test (HSPT) scores determine placement in Honors English and World History in their freshman year. Specialized placement exams are administered for advanced world language and mathematics classes. After ninth grade, students are able to select Honors and AP courses based on their academic performance. Colleges and universities evaluate the academic rigor of a student’s high school transcript based on the number of AP and Honors classes taken by a student compared to the number of such offerings made available by the high school. A student’s overall GPA and academic rigor are two important factors in addition to other activities engaged in by the student. Salesian supports students as they learn to balance a challenging academic schedule in conjunction with the demands of a co-curricular program that encourages participation in community service, clubs or athletics. We provide our students the best chance to be accepted to the college or university of their choice.

Academic Success Program The Academic Success Program (ASP) offers a college preparatory program for highly motivated students with mild learning differences. ASP students are completely integrated into the academic, spiritual and co-curricular life of the Salesian community. Students attend regular academic classes without a modified curriculum. . ASP students receive one daily period of academic support in order to develop skills such as time management, note taking and use of study guides which help ensure success in a college preparatory curriculum. ASP seeks to make postsecondary and higher education possible for students by helping them identify their passions and interests as early as possible and link those to a potential career. This approach recognizes that students may need multiple pathways for success in college and that their studies are relevant to their aspirations. An ASP student may receive support throughout their four years at Salesian. However, the majority of students remain in the program for two years. The program is designed for students to succeed as life-long learners who plan to attend competitive four-year colleges and universities. Alumni from the program have been accepted to UC and CSU schools, as well as elite private schools, such as USC, Azusa Pacific, Hampton, Spellman and DOmincan, to name a few.
Concurrent Enrollment Salesian also encourages students to participate in concurrent enrollment at our nearby community college. Concurrent Enrollment enables eligible students to take college courses and receive college credit. Concurrent Enrollment offers students the opportunity to take a variety of enrichment courses such as: Introduction to Mandarin, Probability and Statistics, Sociology, Intro to Philosophy, Principles of Accounting, Intro to Anthropology, and Digital Film Production.

Foundation for Success Salesian builds a foundation to ensure success for each student. Guidance counselors schedule individual appointments with our students to discuss their academic progress and college plans commencing in the freshman year. Towards the end of their junior year and throughout their senior year, college counselors provide students with information, workshops and individual assistance to prepare them for the college application process including essay and personal statement coaching. An on campus SAT preparation course is available in the junior year. Virtually all Salesian students who apply to college are accepted into a college or university.

Since its establishment in 1960, Salesian changed the lives of more than 6,000 students as they prepared for adulthood. Salesian alumni are poised for impact. UC Berkeley — Pioneers of Engineering (PiE)
The Salesian Robotics team competed against 700 students from 30 schools across the Bay Area and won the PiE Championship for 2019. Salesian partners with the UC Berkeley Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering Departments to participate in the Pioneers in Engineering (PiE) program. With the help and mentorship of UC Berkeley students and faculty, the Salesian Robotics Club built “Rob the Robot” and programmed him to complete several tasks using Python based language.
Project Based Learning — Computer Science
AP Computer Science Principles will enable students to demonstrate their mastery of coding and earn college credit based on their AP exam scores in May. Salesian College Preparatory is in its third year utilizing Code.org’s computer science coding curriculum. Sophomores are enrolled into Computer Science to gain working knowledge of coding, design thinking and refinement of their critical thinking skills. Code.org curriculum is based on ‘project based learning’ that challenges students to learn coding through application in a variety of specific hands on projects. For their final project, Computer Science students designed and created their own functioning App.
Wildcat Creek — Outdoor Science Lab The City of San Pablo will restore 2,200 linear feet of Wildcat Creek directly behind Salesian College Preparatory. This state and locally funded project will restore Wildcat Creek to a more natural condition and provide a shareduse path for bicyclists and pedestrians.

The City will receive valuable data on the health of the creek corridor and the Salesian students will apply skills learned in the classroom to a real life project in the environmental science field. The City of San Pablo and Salesian College Preparatory have partnered for the use of the newly restored creek as an “outdoor science lab.” When the creek restoration project is complete, Salesian Environmental Science classes will assess water quality, provide counts of local wildlife, measure the growth of newly planted trees/shrubs, and become stewards of the creek through peer education. The information collected will be used to provide reports to regulatory agencies on the health of the creek and success of the restoration project. www.salesian.com I 11

At Salesian College Preparatory, we are a community with a mission to bring love, compassion, justice and truth to one another and to our world. We accept that our Salesian education calls us to become good, honest and upright citizens. We are called to do this together as a school community. All students complete four service requirements each year, including: • Participation in a campus-wide service day • Engagement in service donation projects (including our Thanksgiving food drive and Project Santa) • Completion of a unique, self-selected community service project on or off campus • Participation in a class service learning activity, such as volunteering at St. Anthony’s Dining Room in San Francisco
Faith Families
Faith Families are an integral part of the Salesian experience. Your child will become a member of a group of students from the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades. This will be your student’s Faith Family for the entirety of their four years. Faith Families are regularly scheduled to meet at least once a month during the school day. We believe students step up when adults step back. Faith Families are coordinated by a 12th grade student leader supported by two members of the faculty and/or staff. Throughout the year your student with other members of their Faith Family will provide service to a variety of projects within the local community. Faith Families organize and participate together in our annual Service Day. Recent Service Day locations included the Bay Area Rescue Mission, Pinole Valley Watershed, and Animal Refugee Response.
Campus Ministry
Our student-directed Campus Ministry Team coordinates and leads class retreats, school-wide liturgies, an annual Don Bosco Day Mass and celebration, service learning activities, and community fundraisers.

One of Salesian’s most unique and popular student groups is Student Leadership and Ministry (SLAM). This group is a collection of student elected representatives, Faith Family leaders and students from our Campus Ministry Team. SLAM members participate in a class which focuses on cultivating leadership skills. SLAM helps sustain Salesian school spirit, fosters a sense of community and helps to build the Salesian family atmosphere. Together, members organize and direct spirited campus activities and major service projects.
Mentoring Opportunity/Internship for Salesian Students
Today’s Youth Matter (TYM) has partnered with Salesian to offer young elementary school students in our community a specialized learning pathway in an after school targeted intervention program. Salesian student volunteers will have the unique opportunity to tutor and mentor these TYM students here on campus. Our student interns will be challenged to model appropriate life skills and refine their own personal leadership qualities as they help younger students expand their skill set and discover their true potential.

Global Citizens Salesian students experience learning that is international. Throughout their high school experience, our students engage with different cultures, absorb new perspectives and gain skills that prepare them to make a positive impact as a global citizen. As a member of a diverse school community, students learn to respect cultures, languages, religions and traditions other than their own.
Twinning Salesian Exchange Programs Parma, Italy Thanks to a diverse network of Salesian schools in over 130 countries, our students have the opportunity to broaden their education in Italy at the San Benedetto Salesian Institute in Parma, Italy. Multiple programs are offered from two weeks to a 6-month study abroad academic program, with a focus on STEM, Sport Science and Business.
Quebec, Canada Each year, students who are enrolled in French language classes have an opportunity to enjoy a week with their classmates at the Le’ Salesien High School in Quebec, Canada. Our students enjoy a week in Quebec one year and then play host to Le’ Salesien in the alternate year. Students will attend classes, converse in French with their peers and immerse themselves in the culture.

Your Talents In addition to rigorous college-preparatory classes in the social sciences, world languages, and STEM disciplines, Salesian offers outstanding Visual and Performing Arts Program. Performing arts students have numerous opportunities to showcase their talents throughout the year including musical concerts and assemblies, a fall play and a spring musical.
Visual Arts
Whether you are looking for a creative outlet to balance your academic studies or you are considering a career in this field, you will find your interests served by Salesian’s art program. Students gain proficiency in the basics of drawing, color theory and design through experience with a wide variety of art media. Course instruction includes painting, drawing, ceramics, mixed media, design, photography and other applications.
Performing Arts
Students expand vocal and instrumental talents through class work and concert performances in Jazz Band or Instrumental Music. Students who enjoy theater can take Drama classes that perfect acting technique, character study, voice, and movement. School plays and musicals are additional opportunities for students to express themselves. Students can also gain first-hand experience in stage management, lighting, costume and set design. Students learn the history of dance, as well as explore and perform various dance styles. Dance instruction includes ballet, modern, jazz, and hip-hop to name a few.

Salesian College Prep- Nike Elite Basketball School Salesian College Preparatory has been honored as a Nike Elite program for its boys and girls basketball programs, a unique designation specifically for sponsored high schools.
