Every club is taking the utmost safety precautions to prevent Covid infection, but the fact is, Covid is a transmittable disease that is infecting many people on a global scale.
Having been involved in the discussions and the subsequent decision-making process relating to the policy of points awarded for Premiership games cancelled due to Covid and also PRL’s decision not to bring forward their fixtures to fill the two-week void created by the unfortunate cancellation of the two rounds of the Heineken Champions Cup, I would like to take the time to help explain the rationale behind both directives. It has been agreed to award 2 points and 4 points for non-contested Premiership games due to Covid (2 points to the squad unable to make the fixture due to Covid and 4 points to the other team).
Anyone who suggests that clubs would seek to deliberately contract the virus to avoid certain fixtures does not warrant a response.
In the decision to assign no blame, PRL decided that the club who can’t fulfil their fixture is It was decided that we would not assign blame awarded 2 points. This doesn’t penalise the to clubs for contracting Covid. Every club club as much as awarding zero points but, all is taking the utmost safety precautions to the same they are disadvantaged by losing prevent Covid infection, but the fact is, Covid is the chance of winning the game and earning a transmittable disease that is infecting many either 4 or 5 league points. DIRECTOR OF RUGBY
The moment you start overlooking things and being overconfident is the moment you start getting beaten badly and embarrassed, so we won’t be taking Bath lightly this weekend.
Good evening and welcome to round 09 of the Gallagher Premiership. After two back-to-back away games, I am thrilled to be taking charge of my first home game at the AJ Bell Stadium. I couldn’t have asked for a better first few weeks in charge. It’s gone well in terms of the outcomes and the performances and the feel and buzz that’s around the place is infectious, but let’s be honest, two to three weeks isn’t enough to see if it’s going well. Two months is probably the earliest and two years is about right to judge, hopefully 10 years will be the acid test. I want to build something lasting and that’s not done in two weeks. In terms of the transition, I do a lot of similar things. I’m essentially doing the same job, just bringing a team of different people together, and those people are what has made my transition so easy. We had a huge result last week against Bristol. Our ability to stick in it and stay in the fight was awesome, potentially in the past we wouldn’t have been able to see out that game. We grew throughout the match, which was good to see, the belief from the boys never wavered which is what we have been working on.. But that result is in the past now, and we are fully focused on tonigh’ts game against Bath.
We’ve looked at a few games and we can see what teams have done to Bath recently and how they have beat them, but we aren’t expecting a poor team to come up to the AJ Bell, quite the opposite actually. The moment you start overlooking things and being overconfident is the moment you start getting beaten badly and embarrassed, so we won’t be taking Bath lightly this weekend. We have been using last year’s match, where they physically dominated us as a reminder that for every example of Bath being underpowered recently, there is another match which shows their complete dominance and control. That’s the challenge we want this weekend and that’s what I think Bath will bring. As always, thanks for your continued support in these strange times. Stay safe, and enjoy the match. Alex.

SID SUTTON C
E
O
It has been a turbulent 10 months for professional sport in the United Kingdom, not least for Rugby Union. With the game continuing to suffer financially due the ongoing impact of the Coronavirus pandemic, Sid Sutton knows all too well how challenging this period has been and will continue to be for Sale Sharks. Since taking charge of the club in November, the newly appointed CEO has had to navigate Sale Sharks through one of the most difficult periods in its history, whilst at the same time getting to grips with the day to day running of a professional rugby club. It’s a challenge Sid has taken in his stride and he insists his transition into the role has been eased by the enthusiasm and commitment of the Sale Sharks players and staff. I think it’s always challenging coming into a new role in any business and coronavirus hasn’t made that any easier. Thankfully we have an outstanding group of people working for us behind the scenes at the club and its credit to them that we have been able to remain flexible as a business which has enabled us to adapt to the challenges we have faced. There is a hardworking culture across every aspect of the

There is a hardworking culture across every aspect of the club which has really eased my transition
club which has really eased my transition and I believe with just a few tweaks we can take Sale Sharks to new heights. The majority of our squad and staff are committed to the club on long term contracts and the togetherness I see on daily basis across the business is testament to the family culture we have here at Sale. We have a special group of people who are striving to succeed and want to achieve great things for the club and it’s supporters. One of the many frustrations for sports clubs like Sale is the lack of support within stadiums on matchdays. In the grand scheme of things, this is a small price to pay for the safety of the nation, but Sid feels this is one of the greatest challenges for both the players on the pitch as well as the commercial side of the business. With the news this week that the Heineken Champions Cup has been forced into a reshuffle due to travel restrictions imposed by the French Government. It’s unfortunate that we cannot continue our European campaign as we would have liked but we have built some momentum in the Premiership and as we have said these are testing times and everybody just has to react and adapt to whatever is thrown at them at the moment. On the upside it has afforded the
players some valuable time off that otherwise we wouldn’t have been getting, so we have to take the small wins and do what needs to be don’t in order for us to return to normality. The game is truly nothing without supporters, and sadly we have not been able to welcome you back which is frustrating.
The atmosphere on matchdays is second to none when the south stand are in full flow, but the most important thing for us is the health and wellbeing of our fans. TO RE AD THE FULL INTERVIE W:

THANK YOU
WILLGRIFF JOHN 16
W W W.SALESHARKS.COM
Sale Sharks have announced that Will-Griff John will leave the club at the end of the 2020/21 Gallagher Premiership season to join Scarlets. The 28-year-old tight head prop joined the club from Doncaster Knights in 2017 making an instant impact to the Sharks scrum with his immense power and strength cementing his spot in the Sale starting line-up. Will-Griff has made a total of 82 appearances in a sale shirt over the past three seasons and joins Scarlets with the clubs full blessing in the hope of furthering his international ambitions with Wales. Commenting on his time at Sale Sharks WillGriff said: “I’ve really enjoyed my time at Sale and I’m grateful for the time I have spent playing for the Sharks. We have a strong team now and I really want to finish this season on the right note. Since joining Sale I feel I have improved as a player hugely, being around such high-quality players and coaches at the club has helped me learn a lot. I have a young family now, and the opportunity to return to Wales and be closer to home after so many years away was too good to turn down. Scarlets are a prestigious region and I‘m looking forward to joining up with them in the summer, but for the time being i am 100% committed to finishing the season on a high with the Sharks. The club would like to wish Will-Griff the best of luck for the future.

Sale Sharks and long-term sponsor C&C Insurance Brokers are celebrating a ten-year partnership milestone this month – one of the longest in the club’s history. The Stockport-based insurance broker – one of the top 50 independent brokers in the UK – first linked up with Sharks in 2011 and has sponsored England International, Tom Curry, since he made his breakthrough into the first team in 2016. During that time, C&C has continued to work even closer with the club’s commercial team, taking on sponsorship of the exclusive Sale Sharks Business Club. The Business Club offers special one-off events and experiences for corporate members and has continued to host a range of virtual events throughout the pandemic to help keep the business community together. Both the main hospitality and platinum suites at the AJ Bell Stadium are also sponsored by C&C, and despite fans not currently being allowed to attend fixtures under government guidance, the firm’s Managing Director, Malcolm Cooke, is looking forward to the day when that changes.

We first joined up with Sale to help promote the C&C brand with an audience of company owners, decision makers and high net worth individuals, and we’ve seen a huge return on that decision.
He said “We’ve loved working with Sale Sharks for the past decade and very much see ourselves as part of the Sharks family. “We first joined up with Sale to help promote the C&C brand with an audience of company owners, decision makers and high net worth individuals, and we’ve seen a huge return on that decision. It’s a partnership that’s delivered a lot of benefits for us as a company and we’re really excited to keep building on that. “We’ve supported Tom Curry for a number of seasons now and with a new Director of Rugby joining the club in Alex Sanderson, there are definitely exciting times ahead for the club. “Many of our employees are big fans and we are all missing the experience that comes with attending live sporting fixtures. But we’re confident those days will come again, and we
will be there for the celebration when they do.” Mark Cueto MBE, Sale Sharks’ Commercial Director, said: “We’re really pleased that the team at C&C have hit such a big milestone with us. They’re a long-term partner and very much part of the fabric of Sale Sharks. “Having been with us for so many years, it just reinforces how much we value long-term partnerships and work as hard as we can to make sure our corporate sponsors continue to benefit from the partnerships we have in place.”

Roger was Sale Sharks through and through and was instrumental in developing relationships with opposing team supporters, often organising meet-up’s before and after games across Europe.
Prior to the installation of a scoreboard in the West Stand at the AJ Bell, Roger would have a small manual one that he would update as the game went along so those in the East Stand could see the score. At supporter meals he would share stories of his ‘past life’ and would leave us in stitches as he told them in such a matter of fact way.
Roger was amongst the first supporters to set off to a European away match and his thriftiness was legendary. An unusual route that saved a few quid was his forte and the same went for his attitude to accommodation. His much vaunted ‘yacht’ in La Rochelle turned out to be not much more than a dinghy, but he hoisted his Sale Sharks flag up the mast and

PROJECT RUGBY
HERO CALL Sale Sharks and Premiership Rugby are pleased to roll out another exciting new community initiative, Project Rugby at Home, as we try to help young people stay engaged with sport during these testing times. With rugby facilities closed across the country at the moment, it can be hard to get your sporting fix, but Project Rugby at Home is a new Premiership Rugby initiative run in conjunction with Gallagher, with online sessions hosted by each Premiership Rugby club. Recent Sport England data shows that the number of young people taking part in sport and physical activity for an average of 60 minutes or more a day dropped to 44.9% during the 2019-20 academic year, with the national lockdown seeing grassroots sport being postponed. But with Project Rugby at Home, young rugby fanatics still get the chance to be involved with their local rugby club, as well as some of the sport’s elite names, with a series of webinars from each of the Gallagher Premiership Rugby sides scheduled for the coming weeks. The first of the sessions will be Wednesday 24th Feburary and hosted by Sharks Club stars Ben Curry and Beth Stafford who join the Trusts Community Development Manager Vicky Irwin and Rugby Development Manager Jack Leech in a question-and-answer session
with a local club via Zoom, as well as putting the budding young talents through their paces over the internet. Followed by: Simon Hammersley and Katy Daley-Mclean on Wednesday 3rd March, Rob Du Preez and Georgie Perris-Redding on Wednesday 10th March and finally AJ MacGinty and Lauren Delany on Wednesday 17th March. Age grade teams from local rugby clubs have the opportunity to be involved in these inaugural events, which look to help young people reconnect with their local club and teammates, as well as tackling mental health problems by getting involved in a social media competition. Teams can enter via the Sharks Community Trust social media accounts (@SharksCommunity). F O R F U L L D E TA I L S :
