Middle/Senior School Bulletin Issue 14 / 17 October 2014
Middle & Senior School News Every minute counts and we have certainly been making the most of every minute in the first two weeks of Term 4. For our Year 12s the term ahead will continue to unfold as perhaps one of their most memorable at St Andrews as they begin to transition into life after secondary schooling. The Formal, which is being held at the Marriott this Saturday night, is the first in a series of celebrations and special events. A reminder that parents of Year 12s are invited to attend pre-dinner drinks starting at 5.30pm. Parking in and around the Marriott can be very challenging so if you are planning to attend to watch the arrivals I suggest getting there early. For our Year 9 boys, The Edge program began at the start of term. This year we are trialling an extension to the program for our boys which will see them complete a solo camp evening during their time away. Parents of Year 9 students have certainly enjoyed the Googa blog as a means of keeping up to date with activities on camp. Thank you to Mr Tanguy for his stellar work in preparing the students and parents for The Edge.
Cultural Events A number of cultural events took place at the College over the past two weeks. The Cultural Awards evening, held last Friday, was an evening of celebration and a time to acknowledge the fine work of our artistically gifted students. The exquisite talents of our students and of those who continue to nurture their gifts continues to be inspiring.
On Sunday afternoon, the Senior Music Extension class students held a soiree and the calibre of these musicians was breathtaking. Thank you to Miss Scott, the Head of Performing Arts, Mr Oakley-Grant, Music Coordinator and to all of the arts staff for their ongoing pursuit of excellence and genuine care for seeing each student reaching their full potential. The inaugural Battle of the Bands House Competition was also held last week. What a wonderful way of bringing our community together to celebrate the power of music to connect people and to lift our spirits. Wardjam won the competition but all of the Houses left unique impressions. The staff band were equally impressive.
Moderation Day - Pupil Free - Monday 20 October Teachers around the state will be moderating Year 12 student work on Monday 20 October. We have a large number of teachers from St Andrews on panels. All other staff from P-10 will be engaged in meetings on this day. This will be a pupil free day for all students P-12.
