Junior School Bulletin Issue 4 / 16 March 2018
Junior School News Swimming Carnival Yesterday we held our re-scheduled Years 4-6 Swimming Carnival. It was a great event where competitors swam their hardest and showed great sportsmanship. Congratulations to Binging who were the winning house for the day.
We will meet on the corner of James and West streets by 9.00am on Wednesday 25 April, in preparation for the march which begins at 9.30am. As a group, we will then sit with other schools for the service at the Cenotaph, which should conclude by 10.30am. Please be aware that parking may be difficult. I highly recommend carpooling and/or allowing enough time to park nearby and walk into Burleigh. Three Way Conferences The Three Way Conferences are one way in which we report to you your child’s progress at school. It was great to see so many parents taking up this opportunity to meet with their child’s teacher. From my walk through, it looked like there was very healthy dialogue, the students were affirmed in the areas that they are working well on and given goals to improve. Farewell for Mrs Becky Hill The farewell service for our much loved Mrs Becky Hill (Japanese teacher and LOTE Head of Department) will be held at the Worship Centre at St Andrews next Saturday 24 March at 11am. All members of our community are warmly invited to attend.
Car Park Angels In the upcoming weeks, you may see some additional helpers beginning to appear in the Junior School carpark each morning. The ‘Carpark Angels’ (Year 9 students) will be on hand to help your children out of the car, with their school bags and escort them safely to their designated area.
In Brief – Celebrating the Good Stuff • The Mini Musos are well underway and are starting to learn some new songs. It is a real pleasure to see the students begin their musical journey. • The students in Year 4 had a visit from the Science Guy. He had many hands on learning experiences. In the famous words of “Don’t try this at home”, one of the experiments was to put a magnet onto the screen of a tv and ‘watch’ what happens.
Commonwealth Games We are looking forward to the Commonwealth Games that will be occurring over the school holidays. We have a number of staff and students who will be involved in the games in one form or another. We look forward to Bryce U’Ren carrying the Queen’s baton as it works its way to the Opening Ceremony. The OSHC and ELC will be operating as per normal over the first term break. A reminder that there will be a student free day on Monday 16 April.

ANZAC Day March Soon after school starts in Term 2, we will be getting ready for the ANZAC day parade. As has been the custom for a number of years, all students from St Andrews are invited to march behind the College banner. Students wishing to march are asked to wear their full college uniform (including formal hats).
St Andrews helps out in Bahareduk…. We have a wonderful culture within St Andrews of ‘helping out’. This extends all the way from the ELC through to Year 12 and beyond to the parent body and the Church community too. We support many causes - large and small financially and practically. It is tangible evidence of bringing love to life.
