Upcoming Events June 3rd

It began in Chicago when the Salvation Army “Donut Lassies” served donuts to soldiers in World War I. Now you can be a part of that support too! Sign up to volunteer on June 3rd as we distribute donuts to essential workers in celebration of the work they do for our community. For the past 27 years, The Salvation Army's Annual Tournament Fore! Kids has partnered with local individuals, groups and businesses to help make a difference in the lives of children in need across Monroe County. Your partnership is more important than ever in 2022. Together we can continue to provide school supplies, healthy food, warm coats, holiday gifts and positive programming to children across our community. Volunteers are also needed throughout the tournament day.

The campaign mission is to invite individuals, groups and businesses to join The Salvation Army in helping those who suffer. It’s also a reminder to love others beyond all else and, as our mission states, without discrimination.

This campaign was also built to remind us that we should let love drive our words and actions in this time of war, economic hardships and the lingering COVID pandemic.

Negativity can easily infiltrate our daily mindset and affect our daily actions. Loving one another beyond special days of the year is crucial in making change truly happen in our community.

Many people think of The Salvation Army as family thrift stores and kettle bell ringers, but few realize the larger role our organization plays in helping the community beyond the holidays.

Love Beyond reminds all that giving donations and volunteering throughout the year is just as important as donating around Christmas time.

With three worship/service centers, six service units, three shelters and a rehabilitation center in Monroe County, The Salvation Army is uniquely positioned to provide year-round social services to those who are struggling.

These services include substance abuse recovery, afterschool and summer programs, emergency housing and more.

The Love Beyond campaign will bring awareness to these services and share information on how others can get involved.

“Love Beyond Differences” and “Love Beyond Conflict” are two of our focus topics for the coming months of Spring.

We encourage all of you to share love through kind acceptance, respectful communication, selfless actions and positive outreaches. To aid further in the success of our Love Beyond Campaign, your gifts of time and treasures can be dedicated to the Salvation Army service of your choice.

College Students Give Time And Talent Through Volunteering Local Colleges are making a strategic effort to teach more than just scholastics these days. Since September of 2021 The Salvation Army has visited half a dozen campuses through Community and Volunteer Fairs offered by local institutions.

This significant increase in college student engagement has resulted in an influx of young adults offering to help The Salvation Army. They raise their hands to host food drives and collections, sort donations and raise money.

Love Beyond Donations: Planned Giving Some people’s legacies are written on monuments. Yours can be written on lives! The Salvation Army has many financial planning options to help you plan your estate. Planned Giving (sometimes called Gift Planning or Legacy Giving), allows you to carry out your values far into the future. Many of our donors have utilized gift planning to not only ensure their legacy, but to also plan and provide for their heirs. Often, a planned gift is also the largest gift a donor will make; ten times the size of any gift made during his or her lifetime.

A planned gift is typically made during a donor’s lifetime or after and as part of a donor’s overall financial and/or estate plan. These include gifts of equity, life insurance, real estate, personal property, retirement assets, or cash.

Planned gifts are personal and unique - no two are alike.

Spring is a great time of year to refresh your closets, garages and living space.

Donating any unwanted items to The Salvation Army Thrift Stores in Rochester helps you “do the most good” while freshening up your home.

Programs at The Salvation Army’s Adult Rehabilitation Centers (ARC) rely solely on the generosity of people who donate goods to family thrift stores. The funds raised at these stores assist those who have lost the ability to provide for themselves as they cope with addiction rehabilitation, abuse recovery, and other life altering issues.

For more than a century, our ARC programs have provided spiritual, emotional and social assistance for men and women in Rochester. The Center’s goal is to help prepare them to reenter society, return to gainful employment and succeed at independent living.

ARC offers work programs/training, residential housing, and group and individual therapy in a wholesome, clean environment. Approximately 400 individuals are served each year at the Rochester ARC. An after-care

program helps those who graduate from ARC transition back into the community.

All of this is made possible from your generous donations to our thrift stores.

By gifting your unwanted clothing, electronics, furniture, household goods, and even vehicles to The Salvation Army, you help transform lives and support fresh starts.

In particular, Greek organizations at the Rochester Institute of Technology and the Institute for Civic and Community Engagement at St. John Fisher College have been especially active with us. The student bodies there and throughout Rochester should be commended for their hard work and heartfelt actions that show love beyond campus life.

...a golf ball cannon, professional photo taking, and two auctions filled with more than 200 items including local gift certificates, sports and spa items, and artistic creations from the unique to the delicious!

The tournament returns to Irondequoit Country Club but with an earlier shotgun start (10 am). Lunch and a post-game appetizer hour are included with registration.

Golfers can expect more games, giveaways and networking throughout the day as well.

Your partnership is more important than ever in 2022. Proceeds send local kids to overnight camp, fund our afterschool and summer adventure programs, and support youth services to combat homelessness.

Sponsorships and golf groups range from $500 to $10,000 and are available now with limited capacity.
