A MESSAGE FROM OUR OFFICERS MAJORS MARILYN AND RON HEIMBROCK The heat of the summer has finally transitioned to the cooler days of fall and winter, with the promise of new beginnings just on the horizon.

Things don’t slow down here at The Salvation Army as we continue our food service, incorporate fun family activities, and enhance our programming in anticipation of our move to the North Side.

This summer, we had 22 campers from Broome County attend Long Point Camp in Penn Yan on scholarships. Salvation Army leadership from Sayre and Corning joined Binghamton leaders to offer 18 of our Northside children a “Fun Factory” themed Vacation Bible School at the lot which will become our new location. The Whole World Mobilizing Campaign featured the Gospel Magic of the Bermeos, with overwhelming attendance. In September we began our very first session of “Faith & Finances” and opened our on-site computer lab.

Through programs like these, we are able to help individuals and families develop new skills, instill a sense of self-confidence, promote positive social interactions, and discover God’s creation. Thank you to our supporters and community partners that make programs like these possible for the children and families of our community!

Building up north side neighbors The Salvation Army of Binghamton's Capital Campaign

We have never been closer to opening our new Salvation Army Community Center than we are today!

Since the April groundbreaking ceremony, our Campaign has gained significant momentum. Our Advisory Board has been active and productive, pledging a total of $24,450.00 to our goal. Activities throughout the spring and summer have led to new community connections and several significant pledges to the Campaign. We are thrilled to announce pledges of $57,805.00 from the United Way of Broome County and $45,000.00 from Visions Federal Credit Union. These gifts are another example of our community’s excitement for the work The Salvation Army will bring to Binghamton’s North Side and our expanded role throughout all of Broome County.

Even with the positive momentum and growth, we still have a long way to go before we reach our $1.5 million goal. In order to complete the construction of the new center and be ready to open our doors

by August 2018, please consider making a one time gift to the Capital Campaign. Your gift, whether large or small, will make a positive impact on the success of The Salvation Army of Binghamton and our ability to build up our North Side neighbors.

As the end of the year draws near, we ask you to once again think about The Salvation Army. Your contribution, if dated by Sunday December 31st, will qualify for a 2017 tax deduction and help us continue to offer needed services to all those seeking our help.

Welcome to the Board!

The Salvation Army of Binghamton welcomed two new members, inducting Timothy Sanford and Kevin Cooper to the Advisory Board.

Our Advisory Board serves a critical role in leading, promoting, and directing our efforts to help those in need throughout Binghamton and Broome County.

Their leadership has played an instrumental role in efforts to move our building and expand our services to Binghamton's North Side. Whether providing support for our officers or interacting with community leaders, our current Advisory Board has been a strategic, dedicated, and generous force for success.

Kevin and Timothy join a robust roster of community leaders, consisting of Jamie Jacobs, Justin Bleuer, Michael Decker, Olin Henneman, Korin Kirk, Phil Nelson, Jared O'Neill, Ranga Ranganathan, William Ritter, and our Chair Chester Schultz.

Faith and Finance Classes

Come join a supportive community to help learn money management skills!

Faith and Finance is a series of twelve, 90 minute session designed to meet the needs of those who struggle to manage their money. Through group discussions, participants interact with volunteer Allies to track their weekly income and expenses, foster awareness of dangerous financial practices, gain important technical financial management skills, and build relevant tools to better their everyday lives. Church groups and agency partners volunteer to cook a hot meal for all participants each session.

Together we share, bond, and learn to overcome obstacles, set savings goals, make spending plans, manage debt, and so much more. Our next session begins in January, so please come and consider how God’s plans for your money might be larger than your own!

RINGING IN THE HOLIDAY SEASON Our Red Kettle Campaign officially kicks off this year with Rebecca Stollman as our Kettle Coordinator. Soon, you will start to see the iconic red containers and smiling bell ringers around town at local retailers.

Donations to our Red Kettles will continue to support holiday meals for the homeless and families in need, all the while allowing The Salvation Army of Binghamton to serve the people of Broome all year long.

A dedicated Advisory Board committee is working alongside Majors Ron and Marilyn Heimbrock and our Kettle Coordinator to recruit, support, and encourage the hundreds of volunteers needed to “ring the bells� throughout the season. The Salvation Army of Binghamton need to fill 4,000 volunteer hours at locations throughout the county.
