I often think Scrooge gets a bad rap. Everyone remembers his miserly ways, but never his transformation when he realises that kindness has more benefits than selfishness and the accumulation of wealth. Shaun Martinez is big on kindness with his plans to help refugees (p.59) and Kevin Watkins is too, in raising money for Action Medical Research by r owing across the Atlantic (p.60). Scrooge’s Ghost of Christmas Past is always with us, particularly last Christmas, when we were in the midst of lockdown and so much worry and uncertainty. So let’s take pleasure in our new, if still cautious freedom, to enjoy the celebrations, but to always remember Scrooge’s promise to himself ‘I will honour Christmas in my heart and try to keep it all year’.
