BUILDING FINE YOUNG MEN. ONE BOY AT A TIME.

WELCOME FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL WELCOME TO THE 2026–27 NEW SCHOOL YEAR! I wonder what this year will hold for you. What successes will you achieve, and how might you reflect on them? I wonder where you might face challenges, what you might learn in those difficult moments, and how you might grow. Alongside wondering what learning and adventure await, do you have any space to wonder how you might support the journeys of those around you? Who might need your help when they are clearly struggling? Who could benefit from friendship if they are new? Who might need encouragement when they are nervous or afraid? As the new school year approaches, it is natural and important for you to consider how you might want the year to unfold. Personal goals are important, but at St. George’s School, we pride ourselves on being a community — we benefit from the strength that comes from a vibrant community. Furthermore, a community is made by our actions for others, not for ourselves. So as the school year begins, I challenge us all to not only consider how we might step into the year to ensure personal growth, but also to scan the landscape around us to see where we might support others in their endeavours to do the same. I wish you a wonderful year ahead. Sine Timore Aut Favore.

MR. DAVID YOUNG Head of School

GREETINGS FROM THE PRINCIPAL OF THE JUNIOR SCHOOL Happy last days of summer! As we approach the start of a new school year, I want to extend my welcome to all new and returning families. The 2026–27 school year is going to be here before we know it, and I’m sure your minds must be racing as you transition from holiday mode to go-mode. Here is some helpful information to get you started: NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION IS ON SEPTEMBER 1: For New Students: We look forward to welcoming new students at our New Student Orientation on Tuesday, September 1st. Students entering Grades 3–5 will have orientation from 9:30–11:30 am. Students entering Grades 6 & 7 will have orientation from 1:00–3:00 pm. Please bring a snack and a water bottle. Students may come in casual clothes. FOR STUDENTS ENTERING KINDERGARTEN: Each Kindergarten boy has received information from the Kindergarten and Admissions Team regarding gradual entry for September 9-11. Kindergarten students should arrive for their gradual entry sessions dressed in their school-crested golf shirt, grey flannels, and black shoes. The school blazer is optional for the entire school year. Please note that September 14th is a non-instructional day for students. More information will be communicated by the Kindergarten and Admissions Team. The first full day of classes for Kindergarten is Tuesday, September 15th. FOR STUDENTS ENTERING GRADES 1–7: The first day of school will be Wednesday, September 9th, from 8:20 am–3:10 pm. All students should be dressed smartly in their #1 School Uniform: a blue blazer, grey flannels, grey socks, black shoes, a white button-down shirt, and a school tie. New boys are asked not to wear a tie on the first day, as they will be presented with a school tie during a Formal Assembly at the end of the day. All students are reminded to bring their gym strip. The boys will be in their homerooms from 8:20–11:25 am and then begin rotation in the afternoon. PLEASE ENSURE STUDENTS ARRIVE ON TIME: I can’t emphasize enough how important it is for the boys to arrive on time. The purpose of morning homeroom time is to help the boys settle in and begin to focus on their day. They will have time in their homeroom to collect their materials, organize their books, and review their daily schedule. Teachers also use this time to share announcements, check prep books, and have class discussions. Consistent, on-time arrival helps boys establish positive routines, strengthens their organizational and executive functioning skills, and allows them to begin the day feeling prepared and connected to their peers and learning. Students should be at school by 8:20 am on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and by 8:30 am on Wednesdays. LATE START WEDNESDAYS: Late Start Wednesdays allow our faculty to focus on boy-centred learning; examine and refine our teaching practices from Kindergarten to Grade 7; and continue to develop our rubrics and assessments. Collaboration time is essential for these projects, so we will use Wednesday mornings for our meeting time. Junior School faculty arrive early on Wednesday mornings to meet and work on our school goals. As a result, we are asking parents to drop their sons off between 8:20–8:30 am on Wednesday mornings only. We will not have supervision before 8:15 am on Wednesdays. The morning bell will ring at 8:30 am, and students will proceed to their homerooms and then attend the first period. On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday morning, the school bell will ring at 8:20 am for the beginning of the day. This time of the day is very important for both our teachers and boys, as this is an opportunity for all to check in and organize the day ahead together. CODE OF CONDUCT: I would also like to draw your attention to our Code of Conduct. This document outlines our community values and is something that, upon enrollment or re-enrollment, each family commits to upholding. Please pay special attention to our updated technology section. Students at the Junior School may not have access to a cell phone or wearable technology (including smart watches) during the school day. Should boys need to reach their parents, they may use the school phone located at Reception.

EXPECTATIONS FOR ATTENDANCE: Regarding expectations, we ask that families demonstrate commitment to our School. Regular attendance is outlined in our Code of Conduct. Students who play high-level sports of any kind are not permitted to miss school on a regular basis for practices or games. If they have occasional tournaments, they can request permission from their teacher and principal to attend. Attendance and participation are important and valued parts of our School Program and are included in our Code of Conduct. SAFE PICK-UP AND DROP-OFF: We ask that all students be regularly picked up and dropped off by a parent, guardian, or caregiver. Please be respectful of other road users and pay particular attention to the safety of cyclists and pedestrians. Please note that a 30km/h speed limit applies on West 29th and Chaldelcott Park, along West 33rd beside Memorial West Park, and along Camosun Street beside Southlands School. To help with a safe and considerate arrival at school, we ask that you:

• Have your son sit behind the passenger, on the right-hand side of the car, with his backpack on his lap. This will help keep traffic flowing and reduce the congestion on the narrow streets around the school.

• Do NOT do a U-turn on any street. Doing a U-turn on Wallace, West 29th, Camosun, or any of the other streets around the School can block traffic, making it worse for other drivers. We remind you that all U-turns in Vancouver are illegal.

• Do not park close to corners, crosswalks, or in areas marked by signs. There needs to be visibility of pedestrians entering the

crosswalk, so do not block this clearance. If you need to wait for your son, please find another area to do so. The parking authority can ticket accordingly.

We have designated drop-off and pick-up locations to maximize student safety and minimize traffic congestion. IMPORTANT REMINDER: Please DO NOT drop off and pick up on Wallace Street. BUS SERVICE: We also have a regular Bus Service that we encourage all boys to participate in to reduce the number of vehicles on the road. Boys will not be permitted to use Uber, Lyft, or taxis as a form of transportation to or from school. We appreciate your support with this protocol. More information about designated student drop-off locations and bus service is provided in this digital book. BIKING TO SCHOOL & ROAD SAFETY: If your son rides his bike or scooter to school, we ask that you remind him about the importance of road safety and respecting all traffic signs. Your son should wear a helmet and follow all safety rules. We ask that boys who bike or scooter be especially careful of vehicles on the road, especially as they turn into the Junior School property. Please take the necessary precautions. EMERGENCY COMMUNICATION: Student safety is our number one priority, but sometimes critical incidents do occur. If this does happen, St. George’s School will contact you via text message and email. These communications will direct you to where to find more information (e.g., the school website) and/or when to expect the next update. You can also follow our Instagram account and website for updates during an emergency: Instagram: @saintsbc | School Website: www.stgeorges.bc.ca During the 2026–27 school year, you can expect to receive emails and text messages as part of our emergency preparedness drills, which involve conducting drills with students and staff. STUDENT PERFORMANCE: If parents have any concerns about their son’s performance, they are encouraged to contact their homeroom teacher by phone, email, or schedule an appointment to meet. Parents should check the website frequently and read the weekly Saints eNews to stay abreast of everything, including co-curricular highlights, athletic fixtures, and school announcements. The “My Resources” page on the website is also a helpful tool, providing invaluable information about the school’s policies and routines. As always, my door is open if you have any concerns — please phone or email me to make an appointment. MEET THE TEACHER NIGHT – SEPTEMBER 22: Lastly, parents are asked to mark Tuesday, September 22nd on their calendars for our Meet the Teacher Night. This is your opportunity to come to the School, meet your son’s subject teachers, and familiarize yourself with the classroom expectations and routines. I look forward to seeing all the boys in September. In the meantime, have a restful and enjoyable remainder of the Summer Break! Sincerely,

Ms. Karyn Roberts Principal, Junior School

GREETINGS FROM THE ASSOCIATE PRINCIPAL OF THE JUNIOR SCHOOL I am excited to welcome our students, families, and faculty to the start of a new school year. As we come together once again, we embark on a new chapter of learning, personal growth, and shared opportunities. SCHOOL UNIFORM The Junior School’s Dress Code and Standards of Appearance exist to cultivate an educational setting where students are able to concentrate on learning in a safe and respectful environment. The Dress Code reflects our high standards of presentation and complements our expectations for work and behaviour. CURRICULUM MS. LAUREN BISHOP Kindergarten-Grade 4 Curriculum Coordinator MR. JAMES WEBER Grades 5-7 Curriculum Coordinator

STUDENT PORTFOLIOS, CONFERENCES & REPORTING Throughout the year, student learning is documented and communicated in various ways. One of the most meaningful is through each student’s Learning Portfolio, which celebrates growth while encouraging students to reflect on their learning journey. Goal Setting is the focus of our fall portfolios, which will be shared with families at the end of October. They are designed to provide a meaningful snapshot of your son’s learning, growth, and next steps. Portfolios may be shared either digitally or in hard copy, depending on the grade level and subject area. Each portfolio includes a selection of student work, opportunities for students to reflect on their learning through their own voice, and teacher feedback. While portfolios aim to provide a well-rounded picture of student learning, some specialist subjects may not be represented in every portfolio cycle. Your son’s homeroom teacher will share additional information about what to expect for your child’s specific portfolio. Following the release of portfolios, families will participate in Three-Way Conferences during the first week of November. These conferences bring together students, parents, and teachers to celebrate progress, discuss learning, and establish goals for the months ahead. To ensure these conversations are as meaningful as possible, it is essential that parents review the Learning Portfolio together with their son before attending the conference. Additional scheduling information will be shared through the Saints eNews. Traditional Report Cards will be shared during Winter Break in December. These reports include student reflection on the BC Core Competencies and communicate progress toward grade-level curricular competencies and content standards, while providing feedback on areas for continued growth.

AI & TECHNOLOGY At the Junior School, we believe innovation begins with curiosity, not computers. Our approach to technology is intentional, balanced, and deeply rooted in how boys learn best: through movement, inquiry, collaboration, and hands-on experiences. From Kindergarten onward, students are taught to think critically, ask meaningful questions, and take ownership of their learning while teachers guide and challenge their thinking. Technology is used to create, explore, design, and communicate, not for passive consumption. In the early years, iPads help students capture their thinking, express ideas, and document their discoveries, while students in Grades 3-7 transition to school laptops as they develop digital fluency, research skills, and responsible online habits. Beginning in Grade 4, students are thoughtfully introduced to Artificial Intelligence (AI) within a secure “walled garden” environment where AI acts as a guided learning partner rather than a shortcut. With teacher oversight, students learn how to use AI to brainstorm, organize ideas, deepen understanding, and refine their work while protecting their own voice, creativity, and critical thinking. At Saints, we teach our boys how to engage with emerging technology ethically, thoughtfully, and carefully. At the same time, we are equally committed to protecting childhood, connection, and wellbeing, which is why mobile phones, smartwatches, and any smart technology remain in lockers so that boys spend their days talking, collaborating, problem-solving, and learning alongside one another.

ATHLETICS MR. GRAEME WEBBER Head of Athletics, Junior School

The Junior School is committed to encouraging physical fitness as a principle of good health and thus has an excellent Athletics Program that enables students to develop skills in an age-appropriate and sequential manner. The Junior School offers a variety of sports. Due to overwhelming numbers, tryouts are held at the Grade 6 and 7 levels for some team sports. FALL ATHLETICS INFORMATION Most of our fall sports begin in the second week of school. More information will be communicated through the Saints eNews.

ARTS

Grade 7 Soccer Tryouts begin on the week of September 14th, our first full week of school. Students in Grades 6 and 7 are eligible to try out for the 7A Team, while only Grade 7 students will be selected for the 7B Team. Tryouts take place from Monday, September 14th to Wednesday, September 16th from 3:30–5:15 pm at the Junior School Field. In addition, towards the end of August, we will offer some optional soccer practices for Grade 6 and 7 boys who are interested in playing on a School Soccer Team in the fall of 2026. A sign-up form was distributed in early August, which included more details and exact times.

At the Junior School, we believe the Arts play an essential role in a well-rounded education, fostering creativity, confidence, and self-expression. Through regularly scheduled Drama, Music, and Visual Arts classes, all students in Grades K–7 are encouraged to think creatively, take risks, collaborate with others, and discover their individual strengths. A wide range of cocurricular opportunities allows students to further explore their interests and develop their artistic passions. Throughout the year, students share their learning with families and the wider school community through concerts, theatrical productions, and visual arts exhibitions. These authentic experiences celebrate creativity while strengthening confidence, perseverance, and a sense of belonging within our school community. Term 1 Community Events include: PRIMARY ARTS WINTER SHOWCASE A joyful end-of-term celebration that highlights the creativity of our youngest artists, giving students the opportunity to share their learning from Music, Drama, and Visual Arts through engaging performances for families and the school community. INTERMEDIATE WINTER CONCERT An inspiring performance and celebration of the musical achievements of our Grade 5, 6, and 7 Programs as they showcase the skills, artistry, and repertoire developed throughout Term 1.

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING MS. BREANNA BERNARD Global Stewardship Coordinator, Junior School

At the Junior School, our goal isn’t simply to create memorable events; it is to create meaningful experiences that shape who our students become. Every experiential learning opportunity is intentionally designed to help students build character, deepen understanding, and discover how they can make a positive impact on the world around them. Throughout Term 1, students will participate in the Terry Fox Run, Orange Shirt Day, Remembrance Day, and our Hamper Drive. These are more than school events or traditions. Each experience is thoughtfully designed with learning before, meaningful participation during, and opportunities for reflection afterwards, helping students make lasting connections between their classroom learning, our Core Values, and the wider world. Character Education is woven throughout each experience, giving students authentic opportunities to practice our Core Values of Respect, Responsibility, Resilience, Integrity, Empathy, and Humility. Rather than simply learning about these values, students are asked to live them, engaging with purpose and growing into fine young men who are prepared to make a positive impact in their communities.
