Welcome to the players, officials, management and supporters of Bedworth for today’s FA Trophy tie.

to move the ball with purpose and create some chances.

Surprisingly, we created 4 good chances in the last 15 minutes - on top of the goal that we had scored yet didn’t take any of them.

Unusual for the league top scorers.

A week is a long time in football.

After three wins on the bounce, including five goals away from home in the league and a good one-nil victory at home against Dorchester in what was a solid display, we had exactly the opposite experience last week.

A defeat away at Dunstable, which included probably the worst 45 minutes of football since I’ve been Manager followed up with a home defeat against Merthyr meant we didn’t have a good week at all.

Within 15 minutes of the Merthyr home game, we found ourselves 1-0 down, with the confidence visibly draining from us after the mid week performance.

Second half we managed to get in the game a bit more, but it took until 15 minutes before the end of the match before we really started

I hope we take our chances today.

Sometimes cup games, can come at good times and whilst we were very short for the senior cup tie at Yaxley on Tuesday night, it was important for us to get a victory and a convincing one at that.

Whereas the last outing in a cup match against St Ives in the red Insure cup, players coming into the side did not do themselves justice to earn a place on Saturday.

The Yaxley match proved a different scenario where everybody stepped up to the plate and made a claim to start today.

This cup match is timed well for us too, because today we will be without players who last season between them scored over 100 goals. Obviously this is a big miss, but in the main we have been in that situation for most of the season and still some how are managing to in

the main create and get goals. I hope that will be the case today, but the priority is we get these players back and in the squad as soon as possible for league action, so we can create a competitive squad in every position, with people vying for each other’s place for every game.

Finally, the support against Methyr was great.

We gave you very little to shout about for 75 minutes but you kept going and I’m sure that helped the team to do the same.

We nearly pulled it off at the end for you guys and arguably should have done, we will do that another day.

ST NEOTS TOWN 3 - 2 BEDWORTH UNITED Almost back to full strength St Neots arrested their slide down the table with a much needed but well deserved victory to complete their first league double of the season – and their first league three points haul since 10th November.

Manager Iain Parr had to make some testing selection decisions and he had the luxury of five very experienced substitutes on the bench for one of the first times this season. The principal changes were the return to the side after suspension of leading scorer Ben Mackey and skipper Dan Jacob was back after injury. They were pushed all the way by a spirited visiting Bedworth side but would have won far more convincingly but for the woodwork that denied them three times. All in all it was a performance reminiscent of earlier in the season when they were stringing together five victories on the trot – including their impressive victory at Bedworth. However it does not get any easier with league leaders Hemel Hempstead the visitors to the Cozy Stadium next Saturday.

The anticipation and expectation of the home supporters was quickly crushed when Bedworth took the lead in their first attack after four minutes. It was a needless goal to concede as a harmless forward pass went over the St Neots defence and with goalkeeper and defenders each expecting the other to mop up David Blenkinsopp was allowed to advance to lob over the stranded goalkeeper. To their credit this did

not faze St Neots and Gavin Hoyte could have done better with a free header from Lewis Hilliard’s cross.

Visiting keeper Andrew Kemp looked nervous under pressure dropping shots from Craig Calver and Jacob but he did well to field a Ben Mackey header. At the other end a narrow angled shot by defender Rikki Baines was smothered by Jack Giddens and then Baines was booked at the other end for bringing down Calver but Hilliard’s free kick was wide. Craig Calver is looking a good acquisition and he then had a significant hand in two St Neots goals. His cross after 26 minutes found Ben Mackey who found time to turn in the area to level the scores celebrating his return to action with his 17th goal of the season. Two minutes later a deft back heel by the striker released Lewis Hilliard who was driven wide but he produced a brilliant left footed curling shot from a narrow angle over Kemp and inside the far post.

Right on half time a powerful Calver shot was pushed up into the air by Kemp who then recovered to clear the ball as in bounced towards the net. St Neots began the second half well and were denied twice by the woodwork in the first nine minutes – Dan Jacob’s shot beating Kemp but rebounding from the bar and Ben Mackey moving inside his marker to shoot across goal only to see his shot hit the far post. It was against

the run of play on the hour when Bedworth levelled at 2-2. Substitute Aaron Donaldson had been on the pitch just two minutes when with his first touch he crossed to Mitchell Piggon to tap in at the far post.

Parity lasted just three minutes for when Calver was fouled for the umpteenth time Lewis Hilliard produced the perfect free kick from twenty yards to reinstate St Neots’ lead. St Neots were now able to ring the changes with Jon Paul Duncliffe replacing the limping Ryan Auger and Adrian Sear making a welcome return for Jay Davies. St Neots now tended to play a containing game but Mackey had a close range shot smothered and Ollie Thorne saw a header come back off the cross bar. Hilliard almost completed a hat trick but his fierce effort was just the wrong side of the bar and as the clock ticked down Bedworth were unable to mount a significant charge in search of a third goal. Substitute Ade Yusuff on for Calver just failed to reach a Duncliffe cross and St Neots held out comfortably for all three welcome points.

St Neots left it far too late to show their real form as they totally dominated the last twenty minutes of the match but only pulled one goal back against their half time deficit.

By then their Welsh visitors had settled for what they had achieved and were happy to trade possession and space because they were able to rely on solid defence to repel St Neots better efforts. At the start of the game there seemed to be a hint of a hangover from their very disappointing midweek performance and defeat at Dunstable that took a long time to shake off. The best thing to come in defeat for the home side was the return as a second half substitute after a seven match injury absence of the charismatic Matt Mitchel-King who claimed their consolation goal and was a powerful influence on the second half revival.

Manager David Batch made several changes to his starting line-up restoring Nathan Frater (after Injury), and Jack Wilkinson (unavailable) and leaving Isaac Galliford and Jamie Anton on the bench. He also handed a Southern League debut to goalkeeper Oliver Sutton when regular custodian Andrew Wilton reported in suffering from influenza.

The visitors were a well drilled outfit always dangerous at set pieces because of their arial power and they looked far better than their league position suggested. Merthyr began in determined and impressive style taking a fourth minute lead with what must be described as a fortunate goal. Following an Elliott

Scotcher corner the ball went loose just outside the area and Jarrad Wright drilled in a low shot that Sutton seemed to have covered but the ball deflected off Ryan Prosser and into the opposite corner of the goal. St Neots looked stunned and before they had time to recover they conceded a second goal on the quarter hour when a long cross from the right by Adam Davies was not covered allowing Prosser to stoop to head home at the far post. A two goals deficit required a prompt response but it never came. There was the glimmer of a chance when Tom Meechan was brought down on the edge of the area but Jack Wilkinson’s free kick was headed wide by Tom Ward and then Ryan Hawkins sent a free kick wide of target. St Neots made a tactical change reverting to three in midfield with Ryan Hawkins tucked in behind Meechan and Nathan Frater and they looked better placed to test the visiting defence. However just before the break Hawkins was scythed down by Ashley Evans – a challenge that went unpunished by the Referee and he had to retire at half time not to return. The introduction of Matt Michel-King had an immediate impact on the game for the wrong reason when he clattered into an opponents after just 27 seconds on the pitch to pick up a yellow card.

With Josh Beech now in the forward role behind the strikers St Neots looked better balanced but paid for this by not having a wide player until substitute Luis Vieira was introduced to replace Brett Longden. Connor Hall had to save St Neots further embarrassment as he headed off the line from Cortez Belle following a Scotcher corner but there was more action at the opposite end as Frater had a shot deflected and visiting keeper Tom Bradley produced the save of the match to deny a Meechan volley. Merthyr continued to rely on just one player up front and set pieces as their main attacking threat and Sutton did well to push a Scotcher free kick over the bar.There were just eight minutes remaining when St Neots gave themselves a late chance to snatch a point when Meechan crossed from the left and Matt Mitchel- King shot home from ten yards to signal a late siege on the Merthyr goal. St Neots might have had a penalty when Meechan opted to go round the keeper on a tight angle only to be flattened but the Referee waved play on. Meechan then headed wide at the far post from a Wilkinson cross and despite almost four minutes of added time the Merthyr goal held firm.

Welcome to our good friends from Bedworth United and I say good friends because of all the officials I have met during my time as Owner of our club I find the Officials of todays opponents the most friendly of all.

That of course does not mean I do not want us to win every time we play them. We will meet each other twice over the next couple of weeks, as we also have to play them in the league. Our previous league encounter was one where we came out handsome winners on the evening, something I’m sure will not be quite so easy over our next encounters. Bedworth have finally found their feet in our division and have secured some very good results of late. So a very tight game seems to be in store for us today and in a couple of weeks.

Our loss against Merthyr was disappointing for us all and when your form and luck are at a low then nothing seems to go right.

THE MACK IS BACK! The first Merthyr goal was a

serious deflection where everyone went the wrong way including the supporters, unfortunately the ball went the other way and found its way into the back of the net.

Another goal some ten minutes later from very poor defending on the far post just about sums up last weeks football. But as they say you cant look back but only look forward because what has been done has been done and you cannot change it. David and myself of course have discussions on how to improve things and my role in all this is to give him my support and be proactive in helping him improve our position.

We discussed the last two backto-back defeats and really had the same views about both games.

We both go on about have injuries to the squad but this is fact and unfortunately the injuries are not only to what I call very important players but these players are all experienced players who are needed at time like this. We must not forget that we do have some very young players of whom some have no experience of football at this level until this season.

rounding it all off with our late goal. Now if we had say Drew and Clarke added to Mat then not only do we have more quality on the pitch but we have experienced quality as well. I’m not sure if anyone else noticed but myself and certainly David noticed that both Tom and Ryan both seemed to have a quite game against Merthyr. That was no coincidence as they were up against an ex professional player who did just what he had to being the best player on the pitch and organizing his defence to be solid and give nothing away.

I spoke to David about new recruits and yes we have discussed certain players but where would we get players of the quality and experience of those missing, the answer is you wont because they are just not available. So the only solution is one of keeping the light burning for as long as we can so that our injured players can come back to a squad that is not too far off a play off place and looking at the league table we are still in touching distance of just that.

Mat looks like he is back in action, Drew could be playing next week, Lee will take as long as it takes, Remy is doing well and we all know what he can do down that left hand side.

But hold on a minute we have just lost Ryan Hawkins for probably a couple of weeks if his first prognosis is anything to go by.

Will this ever end?, I and everyone else certainly hope so as it is something just so unreal and believe it or not none of the injuries are muscle ones they are all impact injuries that really are the most uncommon injury of all.

Of course our performances are down to the team as a whole not performing as they should

and not down to strikers having a frustrating day. In saying that goals win games and we rely on our strikers scoring the goals that win most games. Now if we had Drew and Lee to call on that would give us an almighty plus in not only team selection but also how we break down very well organized defences.

Now onto todays’ encounter of which is a break from league football but of course we still want to win in a cup competition and then onto Tuesdays return league fixture against Dunstable Town where we have an early opportunity to put things right.

Lets hope that the team can make us all happy again as I’m off on holiday soon and as with David last week when he went away for a few days its not very nice when things are not all roses in the garden.

PRO FOOTBALLERS THAT MADE IT LATE Miroslav Klose worked as a builder and brick-layer before starting football, and while playing at FC Homburg at the ages of 19-20 (who were in the 5th division of Germany when he played) in 1999.

After this initial phase of developing his foundations, his talents were fully fledged and demonstrated suddenly and dramatically on the world stage at the World Cup 2002, where he claimed the Golden Boot.

Miroslav is the all time top goal scorer in the FIFA world cup with a total of 16 goals.

At club level, Klose has been a less prolific but usually reliable goalscorer. Starting his career at FC 08 Homburg, he played in the Bundesliga for Kaiserslautern, Werder Bremen and Bayern Munich, and in Serie A for Lazio. He won two league titles with Bayern, and cup competitions at Bayern, Werder Bremen and Lazio.

Not bad for late starter who might still be a brick-layer.

DREW ROBERTS - A WEEK AWAY WE HOPE

Being in the sporting public eye, even at Non League level is something I have had to get used to being interviewed by the local, regional and indeed with the national press at times as I was interviewed for the first time a few years ago when our ex manager Steve Lomas secured his first professional management position in Scotland with St Johnstone. Behind that comes radio interviews either BBC Cambridgeshire or indeed national radio on Saturday 5 live of which I have also been on. My experience of this type of interviewing with the written press is one of make sure that anything you say that you do “not” want published precede it with the words “Off the record” because that’s the only legal way of trying to keep what is published true to what you actually said and want to be published. A minefield, you bet it is and that’s only local sports reporters of whom I must say I have a great relationship with, even so I always ensure that during the conversation I say “On or Off the record” in every single sentence.

The Radio is so very different where mostly it is a live interview and what you say stays said, quite frightening. Being live on air really is not easy and quite nerve racking, you can speak too fast THEnot MACK IS BACK! and get the answer across in

the right way or you can as often people do “dry up” where you just cannot seem to get the words out and end up saying something you just cannot remember until you hear it back maybe later and think “I made a complete fool of myself there”. Anyway you get the picture I hope. Then you come to the so-called professional media national newspaper reporters.

These people because I cannot call them professional also write columns of which in the main are most often than not untrue, fabricated or just made up, in some cases pure comic book stuff, just to get a headline. They of course are very cunning in the way they do it and are experts in keeping clear of the legals, libel and slander when writing these so called exclusives.Mind you they certainly might come under the “Deformation of Character” category in my opinion.Which takes me on to some recent reporters utter dross on the Chelsea Manager Jose Mourinho of whom most of you will know I have a very high regard for, and undoubtedly either you like him or not as a person (even though none of us actually know him) Jose Mourinho is one of the very best football managers in the world and there are not many clubs or supporters who would not love to have him as their clubs manager, Yes you all would. Now getting to

the point, Chelsea have had a bad start to the season with a squad that won the Premier League title last season. A bad start so what, these things happen a little like St Neots Town really to make a sort of comparison who have been up and down and of course no club has the divine right to be successful. In saying that it never stops us occasionally getting stick from our own public, thankfully we at St Neots Town are just little fish in a very large pond and not interesting enough to the national media so are hopefully exempt from being subjected to what can only be described as a witch hunt by certain elements of the national press. Clubs are in the firing line and so are Chairman but most of all it’s the managers who get it in the neck. So comes my rant and yes why not because what I have been reading is so unreal it makes me very angry.

Reading a recent article in one of the Nationals the headline is as follows “EXCLUSIVE” “Chelsea plan for Mourinhos exit, Mourinhos job is back under review with the Stamford bridge board”.

The Newspaper said, “They understand the wheels are in motion for Mourinhos exit”. Also, Chelsea are understood to have been contacted by a number of intermediaries of bosses interested in replacing Mourinho.

Or even, “Former manager Carlo Ancelotti is understood to be interested”. And more, “Following the defeat by Southampton the Chelsea board “decided” to review the situation after a further three games”. I could go on and on, its just verbal diarrhea, but can be very damaging. So lets take a look at this “Exclusive” news item again and see if we can find any truth in it, No chance say I. Words used like Exclusive, Understood, Understand, Interested decided, and the most used tripe of all is “an insider said”. Well I say if you are quoting the words exclusive, understood or understand or were Interested or an insider said, and it was all decided please why don’t you tell the public just who gave you that information. They cannot because it’s all dribble and they make it all up, an example of this could be the following headline. Just In an “Exclusive” from St Neots Town FC right here right now and it goes like this. We “understand” and “an insider said” saints are going to sign Messi and Ronaldo next season both have “decided” and are very “interested” in talking to the club to iron out final details (get it). These people get paid for writing all this rubbish, and the irony of it all is that they can destroy careers and indeed peoples lives as many just cannot cope with it. Yes maybe even Jose Mourinho after all he is human you know and he does have feelings, it can also affect his family as well but of course these Journalists never care about that either. What I say is prove what you say or start with “In my opinion or in my view” of which they never will because they just like to dramatize things to get headlines but can never substantiate what they are writing.

Whole columns of utter dribble coupled with pictures of so called managers in waiting. Now imagine a Manager or indeed a Chairman who is a real person with yes

feelings, having to read all of that every minute of every day. Some say “well don’t read it then” and of course some don’t but they cant really miss it can they. No wonder Jose Mourinho did not want to talk to the press after Chelsea’s defeat to West Ham United last Saturday and why did he not turn up for the post match press conference well the answer is very simple. Why should he be giving an interview to those very same people who are trying to, well yes lose him his job?

Of course it’s a Premier league rule for every manager to face the press after a match whatever the circumstances. How would people like Mr. Platini feel if he was “Instructed” to stand in front of the press and explain in full his recent alleged corruption charge. No way would he or the other FIFA officials allow that to happen, they just make the rules and are the only ones allowed to break them.

Journalists of today are not like those of yesterday who had to work very hard and gain credibility with the very people that give them their headlines. Today they just make things up without any justification and print it with no concern for the individual they are crucifying. They turn round and say “Well its current news and I’m only doing my job” well there is nothing wrong in that at all but if they can be honest and only state “The Facts” and only the facts and stop elaborating on what they have no proof or can justify writing them maybe they may be able to call themselves real professional sports journalists.Of course when this all blows over or maybe not the media might ultimately force Jose Mourinho out of his job, but I sincerely hope that will not be the case, in any event I dare say they will surround him if they get the chance and those very same predators that have hounded him will be the ones asking for interviews at press conference’s or after matches in the future. I would

love him to say to those people of course I will give interviews but I want you and you to leave the room because you are what is know as what is called the “Gutter Press” now clear off and hide behind a stone. I wonder if any of these reporters have ever done anything wrong or misbehaved in any way in their job to have their professional lives torn apart with unsubstantiated dross written about them for all to see. Freedom of speech is what they hide behind and is every ones right to an opinion unfortunately Jose Mourinho has not been allowed that freedom. Journalists get away with so much its quite frightening.

As for me I’m just some low life who is in a very small way in the

public eye and just a very small pebble in that massive pond In saying that it still hurts when the Officers of St Neots Town are unjustifiably scrutinized on social media for just trying to do your best and hopefully give those very people that little bit of joy on a Saturday football afternoon. You can’t get any lower than that, or can you. No doubt tomorrows news will hit someone well below the belt, as for the journalistic public hanging of Jose Mourinho no doubt they will succeed over the next couple of weeks, then it will then turn of the next victim. I certainly hope that this does not happen and I say, rise above it all Jose Mourinho you are a man who we all respect in our football world and yes a very special one in more ways than one.

KETTERING TOWN Kettering Town have reached agreement with league rivals Bedworth United for the permanent transfer of Justin Marsden.

31-year-old former Rugby Town player spent this season mainly on the bench at Latimer Park, where he made just three appearances. He had been a regular goalscorer for the likes of Rugby, where he had two spells, Malvern Town, Leamington and Barwell.

FROME TOWN Vanarama National League high-flyers Forest Green Rovers have sent young midfielder Corby Moore to Southern Premier Division side Frome Town on a one-month loan deal.

The 21-year-old former Southampton youngster has moved to the Somerset outfit having this week come to the end of a month long spell at Frome’s league rivals, Poole Town.He made eight appearances for the Dolphins, helping them reach the top of the Southern Premier table with a 5-1 away thrashing of Dorchester Town on Tuesday evening. A goal against Redditch United in early October proved to be the only time he found the net for Tom Killick’s side. He’ll now link up with a Frome team who sit in the relegation zone.

BEDWORTH UNITED Alex Naughton has left Bedworth United after playing a huge part in the success achieved by the club in promotion to the Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division.

Rushden & Diamonds AFC Rushden & Diamonds have announced that Claudio Hoban has signed a contract to remain at the Evo-Stik League Southern Division One Central club for the rest of the season.

In addition the club have an option to extend the contract until the end of the 2016/17 season. Hoban joined the club this season and has scored 4 goals in eleven appearances so far and picked up player of the month for August. Manager Andy Peaks was really pleased that Hoban put pen-to-paper: “Claudio has been a great addition to the squad and I am delighted he has agreed to commit to the club. We were

aware that he was attracting interest elsewhere and it shows the ambition of both the club and Claudio to agree on this contract.”

HISTON FC Steve Fallon has today been confirmed as the new First Team Manager at Histon FC. There can be no Stutes supporter unaware of the great history Fallon has with Histon FC as during his 11 year period at the helm from 1999-2010 he lead the club to numerous successes, culminating with taking Histon into the Football Conference National and to the very edge of promotion to the Football League in 2009. Fallon’s first game back in charge was last Saturday’s Southern League Premier Division fixture away at Hungerford Town where Histon lost to an injury time goal.

DORCHESTER TOWN Dorchester Town included `one that got away` in their recent home hammering by neighbours Poole Town.

New signing Liam Sayers was among the substitutes as the Magpies were beaten 5-1. Striker Sayers, who joined on an initial month`s loan deal from Sky Bet League Two side Portsmouth before the game, was previously part of the Dorchester`s Academy under Alex Browne. He was spotted by a Pompey scout and eventually the Bridport-born Sayers joined the Blues at the age of 14.

CHESHAM UNITED Chesham United have signed Adam Martin, who was recently released by Southern Premier Division rivals Slough Town.

Back at Step Three our visitors have found life challenging but are just beginning to find their ryhthm.

A very special welcome for our next engagement – this time our first tie this season in the FA Trophy - with Bedworth United. Our two sides met way back on 18th August in a Southern League match on the smart 3G facility at The Oval where our lads looked perfectly ‘at home’ on the artificial surface running out handsome 6-0 victors. Two goals for Tom Meechan and one apiece for Connor Hall, Tom Ward, Peter Clark and Guiy Mailancol (the latter two Southern League debut goals) saw us lift ourselves into the play off zone for the only time so far in what has been an increasingly difficult season. However Bedworth have too had their problems spending much of August and September at the foot of the table before a home victory over Kings Lynn gave them only their second win of the current campaign. However on Tuesday

ten days ago they travelled to high flying Leamington in a first round Birmingham Senior Cup tie where goals from Daniel Creaney and Harry Walker-Donovan gave them a morale boosting 2-1 victory and a place in the second round. Just one week earlier they had progressed to the second round of the Red Insure Cup with a victory over Evesham United.

Bedworth’s last visit to St Neots was on 12th January 2013 when our lads recorded a closely fought 3-2 victory with Lewis Hilliard (2) and Ben Mackey on the scoresheet for us.

Since then Bedworth has completed major improvement work at The Oval constructing new changing facilities and becoming one of the first Southern League clubs to install a 3G pitch. In the FA Trophy last season our lads bowed out in a third qualifying round replay at Sudbury (a victory masterminded by our

present Manager!) after we had seen off Northern visitors Ilkeston and Darlington 1883. Bedworth meantime was beaten 5-2 by Leek Town in a Preliminary Round of the competition.

CLUB HISTORY The first Bedworth Town football club is believed to have been formed in 1895 when several matches were played against other local teams.

They became founder members of the Nuneaton and District League in 1898, but by 1900 the club had disbanded. Another team, Bedworth Evening Combination School became forerunners of the second Bedworth Town club five years later in 1905 finishing runners up in the Second Division of the Coventry and North Warwickshire League in 1904/5 season. The ECS changed their name to Bedworth Town on winning

promotion and stayed in existence until the early 1920’s. A third club came on the scene in 1925, when Collycroft United, formed in 1916 became the third team to name themselves Bedworth Town. This was the most successful of the prewar clubs, they were members of the Coventry and North Warwickshire League and spent one season in 1936/7 in the Central Amateur League.They played as Bedworth Central for the 1938/39 seasons but unfortunately folded in 1940.

The last club to become Bedworth Town was formed in 1947 and as a semi-pro club secured membership of the Birmingham Combination league winning the Championship in successive seasons 1948/49 and the 1949/50 seasons. In 1951/52 they had their best FA Cup ever.

After defeating Nuneaton the 3rd Qualifying round they lost to

Kettering when a victory would have given them an away tie at Bristol Rovers. A lack of success and problems off the field saw Bedworth TOWN change their name to Bedworth UNITED in 1968. In 1972 they obtained membership of the Southern League Division One North floodlights having been erected at The Oval in 1970/1. The club made rapid strides into the Premier Division when the league was reformed in 1982 and they finished 5th in 1982 and were stable in that division until a poor run saw them relegated at the end of the 1988/9 season.

Since becoming Bedworth United the Club has won the Birmingham Senior Cup on three occasions and were runners-up when they lost to WBA in the 1987/8 season. However club decline occurred and Bedworth United were relegated to the Midland Division. A new lease is shortly to

be signed with the erection of new floodlights, work on the pitch and modification and building of more facilities for player and spectator to follow. Bedworth has established a well-respected Youth and Junior set up offering a wide variety of age group football for the Bedworth area.

An important milestone was winning the play offs in the Central Division in 2011/12 to earn promotion to the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.

That season Bedworth finished bottom but one and were relegated but placed in the Northern League pyramid but one season later they were back in the Southern League winning a play-off place in the Central League and going on to beat Aylesbury (away) and Barton Rovers (home) to win back their Premier Division berth.

STUART STORER (MANAGER) Stuart took over the managers’ role at Bedworth just before Christmas 2013.

The club were precariously placed at the foot of the table, 7 points from safety and looking doomed. Fortunately with the staff and players he brought to the club, they all rallied around to fight off relegation. Stuart, who lives in Nuneaton, played professional football for 19 years. Birmingham City, Everton, Bolton Wanderers, Exeter City and Brighton and Hove Albion were the main clubs he represented amassing 400 first class appearances. He played semi professional until he was 42 years old with Kettering, Chesham and Hinckley United. The now 48 year old holds an A licence in coaching and a teaching degree. He has used these qualifications to good effect in coaching and managing at Hinckley United and now Bedworth United.

ANDY PENNY (ASSISTANT MANAGER) Andy resides near Stafford and has had a long playing career. His first club was Tamworth before moving to Barnet, then Stafford Rangers. He then had a very successful spell at Bedworth United, the fans still remember this and he is a local hero. The now 43 year old then played for Solihull, Hinckley United, Redditch United, Stratford Town and finally hanging his boots up at Chasetown. Andy was a no nonsense centre half that used to dominate centre forwards. He had several televised FA cup runs, several with Hinckley United.

Andy became the reserve manager at Chasetown before taking the assistant managers’ job at Hinckley United in 2013. After Hinckley United disbanded Andy took his present post at Bedworth FC. His positivity, knowledge and networking skills are invaluable.

JAMIE LENTON (COACH) Jamie started off his football career as a youngster at Coventry City. The 38 year old was born in Bedworth and

now resides in Coventry. Jamie had a successful non league playing career mainly with Hinckley United. Other clubs he has had short spells with are; Bedworth, Nuneaton, Leamington and Solihull. He made over 300 appearances for Hinckley mainly playing left wing back. In a 9 year spell he regularly got 20 plus goals a season and he was also part of 3 successful FA cup runs that Hinckley had, which saw them through to the second round proper and televised games. Jamie is a very positive individual, he also has a wealth of experience and knowledge in football and his addition this season will be a huge asset to the players and club alike.

DENHAM HINDS Denham is a maturing 22 year old goal keeper who has played at Oadby Town, Kettering Town and Hinckley United. He is a very agile and talented keeper that could progress further

AARON BAINES Aaron was signed during preseason from Redditch United, where he is based. The young 20 year old player shows lots of raw ability. He is looking forward to developing his potential further under the coaching staff at the club. The left sided player was not given an opportunity at Redditch, but played in several key games last year and he is eager to make his mark at Bedworth this season and play on a regular basis.

CHRIS TULLIN Chris is a local stalwart that has served Bedworth excellently over many years making over 500 appearances for the Greenbacks. He captained the club gaining promotion and his experience was invaluable last year in helping youngsters with his experience. Chris is a good role model for the younger players at the club, as the defender has strong leadership qualities and his attitude is exemplary always giving 100% PETER FOLKES The 30 year old defender was signed from Romulus during pre season. The Birmingham based players’ past clubs have included Bradford City, Bristol City, Lincoln City, Tamworth and Halesowen Town. Peter has settled into the squad

MARK ALBRIGHTON The 39 year old joined the football club from Barwell FC in November 2013.

The vastly experienced local veteran had several seasons professionally with Doncaster Rovers and loan periods with Chester City, Darlington and Cambridge City. The defender also has a wealth of conference football experience, where he played for Telford, Stevenage Borough, Kidderminster Town and Nuneaton.

LUKE ROWE Luke is a local lad and he grew in stature last season under the guidance of the coaching team. The 23 year old left sided player forced his way into the team and kept his place with some good performances. He has played in New Zealand for Wellington the past 2 seasons. On returning to England he had to wait several months for international clearance before we captured his signature. Luke played a major part in last years’ promotion season scoring in the play off final.

MARLON WALTERS Marlon started his career at Wolverhampton Wanderers before playing for several other clubs including Redditch United, Hednesford

ANDREW WESTWOOD: (Midfield) Andrew joined Bedworth in January 2014 from Chasetown, where he struggled to break through to their 1st team. The 22 year old Wolverhampton based player was players’ player of the year in midfield last year for Bedworth. He has gained valuable experience in playing in such a pressurised environment of a promotion winning team. Andy is a very popular member of the squad and always displays a great attitude.

KYLE CARTWRIGHT Town Chasetown FC. The 29 year old Birmingham based midfielder was signed from Hinckley after the Leicestershire club folded. Marlon was a fully committed player last year and played a major part in the final run in last season.

BEN STEANE Ben is a vastly experienced player at this level. The 33 year old midfielder has enjoyed spells at Rugby Town, Chasetown, Brackley Town and Halesowen Town. He returned to the club at the start of the 13/14 season and showed a great attitude in the promotion team last year. Ben lives in Coventry and he is another role model our young players should try and emulate.

ALEX NAUGHTON Alex is a local 25 year old striker. He started his career off as a youngster at Coventry City FC. Alex went on to have several successful seasons playing for Nuneaton Griff, where as a forward he has had a prolific goal scoring record.

Alex showed last year that he has a good eye for goal, scoring 24 goals and the football club is hoping he can make the transition to score goals at this level of football.

DANIEL CREANEY Daniel is a local lad who had a successful season with Atherstone Town. The 20 year old signed for Bedworth last pre season. He really enjoys creating and can play midfield or forward, with a lot of natural ability. With some more maturing and development the coaching team are confident that Daniel will progress and make the step up to this Southern Premier League level

The 27 year old had a very successful spell at Gresley Rovers before joining Bedworth nearly 2 years ago. David was unfortunate last season picking up several injuries, inhibiting his appearances. ––––HARRY DONOVAN Harry made several substitute appearances in the promotion season last year. This 19 year old midfield player is showing good signs of progression and his attitude to learn is refreshing. His targets this season is to break through and start first team matches.

LEWIS CHESTER Lewis is a new recruit this year; he has been playing his football in the local leagues around Coventry. The 20 year old has impressed during preseason and the former Birmingham City trainee is looking to try and substantiate himself in the squad this season

TRAVORNE THOMPSON Travorne is another young forward player. The 18 year old signed on the opening day of the season after being released from Wolverhampton Wanderers. His previous club was Aston Villa where he was a trainee.

RYAN NASH Ryan has signed from Coleshill Town during preseason; The 23 year old has a very good attitude and is an extremely fit player, playing in several positions, mainly on the right side. Ryans’ target is to play regular football with Bedworth this season and try and play as high as possible.

NATHAN MCGARRITY Nathan is a 19 year old striker that played for Leicester Road Stadium Club last season. His former clubs include Tamworth and Hinckley. Nathan netted nearly 30 goals last season and wants to play his football at step 3 and try to make a break through with the first team this season KELVIN MATHE Kelvin is a 20 year old forward that joined the club in February last season.

Kelvin is from Leeds and played youth team football at Guisley FC before then moving on to Osset Town. Kelvin shows good skills and pace and with further development could feature more this season.

DAVID BLENKINSOPP David is a Coventry based forward, BAUZA PICTURED PLAYING FOR SWANSEA CITY heGUILLERMO started his career with Coventry City before joining Nuneaton Town.

KRISTAIN DICKSON RAMSEY Kristain is a new recruit this year.

The 25 year old striker has played for Continental Star, Romulus and Sutton Coldfield. He had trails with Burton Albion recently and his pace and stature make him a handful to control. Kristain wants to have a successful season and play as many games as possible to help his fitness.

NATHAN HAINES Nathan signed from Rugby Town in November. The 25 year old left sided defender is in his second spell with the club; both spells seeing him gain promotion to the Southern Premier League. He also had a season at Stanford and his performances have been very consistent making him a favourite with the fans.

KYLE CARTWRIGHT The 25 year old defender signed from Daventry in November and soon made the centre half position his own. The tough tackling defender had played for Hinckley previously and his commitment and attitude are exemplary. Kyle is hoping for an injury free season as several injuries have interrupted his seasons previously.

We kept the ball on the floor and out-passed our opponents Good afternoon everyone and welcome back to The Premier Plus Stadium, home of St Neots Town Football Club and The Mick George Academy, for this afternoon’s FA Trophy tie.

Today we extend a very warm welcome to the players, officials and of course, the travelling supporters of Bedworth United Football Club and we hope you all have an enjoyable stay with us here in St Neots today before safely returning home this evening.

It’s been another week with contrasting results and performances however our latest outing might just prove to be a catalyst for an upturn in fortunes for the team.

First up was the disappointing home defeat to Merthyr Town. A game where we defended poorly early on and never quite recovered once their giant of a centre forward had got on the end of two chances presented to him.

The re-introduction of Mat MitchelKing (below) was a real bonus and he gave us a lifeline by scoring his second goal of the campaign but it wasn’t quite enough, despite a riproaring last ten or so minutes where we got the ball down and used the flanks and created numerous chances.

Sadly we also lost the services of the on fire Ryan Hawkins during the first half when he suffered an ankle injury and this looks likely to keep him sidelined for maybe a fortnight.

On a personal level though, the day finished on a massive high as there was a charity do at the Club in the evening where Rocker Sal (Indian Elvis at Spiceland) entertained a packed Gregory Suite until midnight and over two-thousand pounds were raised for Children In Need.

There were a large number of matchday ‘regulars’ present and I know they all had a great time.

Just a note of thanks to Louise Spark and her bar staff, they performed admirably on a very busy and successful night for the Club.

Tuesday saw us travel to Yaxley for our re-arranged Hunts Senior Cup tie and what a night it turned out to be.

The squad had been decimated by unavailability, injury and sickness so the side we put out had a real unfamiliar look to it and as it turned out, so did the performance.

We utilised the host’s 3G surface fully by keeping the ball on the floor and out passing our opponents and in the process scored six goals, all by different players and some were of the highest calibre.

A great night at what is now a lovely little ground with the impressive new surface and the win earns us a home semi final game with St Ives Town.

Ok, today’s game and hopefully another display to follow the last and a place in the draw for the next round.

A brief round up of the recent results from the teams that matter FA Cup / League Action (24th October) FA Cup Didcot Town of Division One South & West put up the performance of the day when, having gone two goals down to Brentwood Town, they stormed back to level matters before half time and secured an outstanding 4-2 victory with two goals in the last ten minutes against their Isthmian Premier Division visitors. Meanwhile, Chesham United booked their place in Monday’s First Round Proper draw when two first half strikes set up a 2-1 home win over Enfield Town, whose consolation goal came in time added on.

AFC Rushden & Diamonds, twice trailing at Northern Premier League Premier Division Barwell, scored in time added on to snatch a 2-2 draw and a home replay on Tuesday but Chippenham Town, behind to a penalty five minutes before the break, conceded a second goal in the seventh minute of injury time to go out 2-0 at home to Conference South Maidstone United. Premier Division leaders Poole Town also lost to Conference South opposition when a goal two minutes after the break and another in the final minute gave Whitehawk a 2-0 home success.

Premier Division With the leaders on FA Cup duty, second placed Leamington missed the opportunity of going top when, having gone behind nine minutes after the break, they needed a strike in the final minute to snatch a 1-1 draw at bottom of the table Paulton Rovers.

Weymouth moved up to third place when a goal in each half gave them a 2-0 home win over Kings Lynn Town while Redditch United took over fourth place when they scored twice, the first from the spot, in the final fifteen minutes to win 2-0 at home against Dorchester Town. Fifth in the table Hungerford Town scored in the fourth minute of time added

on to snatch a 1-0 home win over Histon.

Slough Town, goalless at the interval, went three up with twelve minutes remaining to set up a 3-1 home victory against Cambridge City but Dunstable Town scored three times in the opening twenty four minutes and completed a comprehensive 5-1 win at Cirencester Town when they scored two more in the final four minutes while Hitchin Town, behind on the half hour, equalised with eleven minutes remaining and secured a 2-1 home success against Kettering Town a minute from time. St Neots Town conceded two goals in the opening sixteen minutes and slipped to a 2-1 home defeat against Merthyr Town and Stratford Town lost 1-0 at home when Frome Town converted a penalty with just a minute remaining while Bedworth United, two ahead after just sixteen minutes, conceded two goals in two minutes in time added on to allow visiting Bideford to share a 2-2 draw in the basement battle.

Division One Central Egham Town scored seventeen minutes from time to secure a 1-0 home win over Chalfont St Peter and take over top spot from Royston Town who conceded a penalty with seven minutes remaining to go down 1-0 at Godalming Town while St Ives Town took the lead five minutes into the second half and went on to defeat visiting Beaconsfield SYCOB 3-1 and move up to third.

Aylesbury scored three times in the opening twenty-five minutes and added three more after the interval to beat Ware 6-0 and leapfrog the visitors into fifth place and Kings Langley, two ahead at the break, scored four in the second half to win 6-1 at home against Barton Rovers while Potters Bar Town added to their two goal interval lead ten minutes into the second half to complete a 3-0 home victory over Fleet Town.

Northwood scored twice in the opening twenty-one minutes to set up a 3-0 success at Leighton Town but Bedford Town lost 1-0 at home when Uxbridge scored four minutes after the break while Petersfield Town, two up at the interval, went on to complete a resounding 6-2 win at bottom of the table Aylesbury United and Arlesey Town, two up at the interval, won 5-0 at home to move out of the bottom two where they were replaced by their visitors, North Greenford United.

Division One South & West Cinderford Town, after a goalless first half, took a two lead midway through the second half to set up a 2-1 home win over North Leigh to leave the two clubs locked at the top of the table but third placed Swindon Supermarine, two down in under twenty minutes, slumped to a 5-2 defeat at Yate Town while Shortwood United, a goal up at eleven minutes but back level before the interval, scored two minutes into the second half to win 2-1 at Taunton Town and leapfrog their hosts into fourth place and Tiverton Town scored a goal in each half to win 2-0 at bottom of the table Bashley.

Winchester City scored twice in each half to record a comfortable 4-0 home win over Bishops Cleeve and move above their visitors into seventh place and Banbury United also scored two in each half to win 4-0 at AFC Totton while Larkhall Athletic recovered from going two down to win 3-2 at Wantage Town.

Evesham United, after losing their last three games, returned to winning ways when they scored twice in each half to defeat visiting Burnham 4-0 but Slimbridge, a goal up at the break, had to settle for a 1-1 home draw when Mangotsfield United scored just after the hour mark while Bridgwater Town climbed out of the bottom two with a goal after twenty minutes securing a 1-0 home victory against Marlow.

I’ve decided I want to purchase a vinyl record player.

You see I have around 400 vinyl albums and more vinyl singles (can’t remember who I got them off in case he wants them back, I think though he is the bloke that owns the club) than you could shake the preverbal stick at.

It’s not a longing for all things past it’s just a thing. My wife never owned a vinyl record player why would she, She never purchased any vinyl to play on said record player, She was a CD and MTV kid (she’s ten years younger than me) and so missed out on the wonderful life changing experience of thumbing through albums in David’s Book shop (Letchworth), choosing, purchasing, taking home, sliding the vinyl from its sleeve and placing on god’s gift to adolescence.

So armed with this burning ambition to purchase I strode confidently into the local Hi-Fi specialist.

“I want to purchase a Turntable” “Ok these are what we have, they range from £450 to £1000 and you need an amp, we’d recommend this one at £350 and then a Couple of B&W speakers which can vary in

price from £250 to £2,000 a pair” “£450 for a turntable?”

“Yes, you see it’s all new technology which is why they are more expensive nowadays” “So every other available electronic entertainment media has improved “technology wise” beyond everyone’s wieldiest imagination and come down in price considerably in the last 20 years but turntables are now four times the price they once were?”

“It’s not an entertainment system Sir it’s now classified as a hobby” “thieving Bxxxxxds“ Having collectively failed again in our attempt to gain much needed income in our FA cup run it’s nice that we have the chance to progress in the FA Trophy.

Everyone is in this together, officials, playing staff, managers, staff and supporters alike, we are all one collective. Sure there is a responsibility felt by some however it’s as a whole that we will succeed.

We are all determined and focused on taking the club to the next level and your support is as always greatly appreciated. It’s not success that shows a person’s character but

INTRODUCING

JAMIE ANTON Jamie was with Leicester City from a youngster and signed for Cobry Town at the beginning of season 2014 where he played 43 matches and won a Southern League Premier Division championship medal.

A fall out with the club over personal terms lead him to the Saints where he came in as a trialist. Jamie showed the type of character he is by playing the whole of pre season without knowing if he was going to be given a final squad place, something quite unique from a player

who could have gone to any top non league club and signed straight away. Jamie’s performances at both full back and centre half has showed that the Saints have got a very talented player who is committed to the club.

This match was not about the competition or the opposition it was about the superb passing and movement of play and brilliant goals that no team could have defended against.

St Neots eased their way into the Hunts Senior Cup semi-final with six separate players on their scoresheet on what proved to be a simple victory over a hard working Yaxley side. They must relish a 3G surface for this is the second time this season they have scored six on the synthetic turf. However they were kept reasonably quite in the first half by their hosts leading by just a single goal and it was not until the second half that the floodgates opened. With their league backlog of matches piling up this was one match St Neots would have been pleased to have avoided but Manager David Batch used the opportunity to rest several regulars and utilise almost the entire extent of his squad making five changes from the side that had been beaten at home on Saturday. It was an ideal chance for the management to tweak their style of play and a chance for the newcomers to show their pedigree and three of the scorers recorded their first goals of the current campaign.Tom Meechan had netted a hat trick for Godmanchester the last time he had faced Yaxley and although he only got one in this match he also recorded an important assist with three of the other five goals. The match got off to the perfect start for the visitors when they forged ahead in their first attack after just four

minutes.An Isaac Galliford corner was not clear and from twelve yards the unmarked Tom Ward netted with a shot that bounced into the roof of the net.Ryan Horne then should have doubled the lead but his free shot was too high and then Guiy Mailancol shot disappointingly wide.

Playing a 4-3-3 system with lots of one touch shorty passing St Neots looked comfortable but Yaxley had three chances to level. A shot from Jon Stead was pushed away by Ollie Sutton who then saved well after Stead had set up Dan Cotton. Stead was also involved in the third chance setting up Scott Carter who dragged his shot well wide. Tom Meechan almost and should have doubled the lead after 25 minutes skilfully lobbing Andy Stevens but Sam Spencer got back to clear off the line but in the next attack St Neots did extend their lead when Meechan cleverly flicked a Galliford cross to the unmarked Luis Vieira who netted from close range.

Back came Yaxley and deservedly pulled a goal back ten minutes before the break when Cotton’s hard work set up Scott Carter to score with his second attempt after his first had been blocked. Stevens made an excellent save to push a stinging shot by Horne over the bar at the start of the second half as St Neots began to cruise through the gears although Caret almost got through their defence only to

After 55 minutes St Neots introduced teenage substitute Claudio Ofosu to add pace up front and with his second touch he made the score 3-1 after unselfish skill by Meechan. Now Stevens was busy fielding several shots from Galliford, Horne and Ofosu as St Neots upped their pace. It was clear that Yaxley were wilting under the constant pressure and after a net bound shot

by Galliford had been deflected wide St Neots capitalised on the corner after 73 minutes as skipper Adam Tann netted a rare goal. That was the start of a five minutes spell in which St Neots destroyed the confidence and will of their hosts as they added their last three goals. Two minutes later Tom Meechan was rewarded for his non-stop hard work when he was in the right place to score after impressive work by Ofosu and Vieira and after 78 minutes the scoring was completed when Meechan again took on two defenders to lay on a first goal for the club by Isaac Galliford who had delivered his best game for St Neots. Brilliant goals, attacking football and the right result, the faithful were certainly given a real treat last night. THE clocks have turned back and the nights are drawing in. The floodlights are on by half time and the pitches are showing early signs of wear and tear.

So it’s about time we look back at some of the memorable moments from around the Non-League scene so far this season. Here at NLP HQ, we are always reminiscing. Whether it be failed England World Cup attempts (pick your sport), or wonder goals from years gone by. But this season, we haven’t had to look back very far to see some stunning strikes. Longrange finishes seem to be the order of the season with Bradley Bubb (below), Scott Davies and James Poole all netting from

distance over the past three months and instantly becoming YouTube hits.

Bubb didn’t take long to get everyone talking. The opening weekend of the National League South campaign saw the new Oxford City man score on debut. That doesn’t tell half the

story though. We’ve all tried it in the park on a Sunday morning, and for Bubb it paid off. Oxford had just conceded to go 2-1 down against Chelmsford City, and the 27-year-old got his name on the scoresheet in spectacular fashion, striking an audacious effort straight from kick-off. The ball dipped, clipping the crossbar on its way in and clearly surprising Clarets goalkeeper Ashley Timms who, despite a desperate dive, could not claw the ball away. But while it may have surprised Timms, Oxford captain Darren Pond wasn’t so shocked. Pond said: “It was funny actually because Fozzy (Oxford City goalkeeping coach Alan Foster) said to me about shooting from the halfway line. I told him I can’t kick it that far, so I had to tell Brad to do it and he couldn’t have hit it any better to be fair.”

And while Bubb’s effort was almost dead on the halfway line, Wealdstone’s Davies went one better. In fact, he went about 20 yards better. With the Stones already leading Brockenhurst 3-1 in the FA Cup third qualifying round, a freekick from Brockenhurst keeper Callum Maher, landed kindly at the feet of Davies, midway inside his own half. After taking a touch and lifting his head to see Maher still rushing back, Davies went for goal. Yes, it was an open goal, but from 70 yards, it’s not easy to hit the

target. For a moment, it looked like the 27-year-old’s effort may bounce over the bar. As it was, it bounced just before the goal line and nestled into the net.

The FA Cup has been full of goals, and just two weeks after Davies’ effort, Poole got out his best David Beckham impression in front of some of the former England captain’s team mates to send his Salford City side through to the FA Cup first round. Poole netted from just inside his own half, to the delight of City co-owners Gary Neville and Paul Scholes, as the Step 3 Ammies shocked National League side Southport.

There will undoubtedly be some more screamers over the next six months, and whoever follows Sean Geddes, who scored with an audacious rabona attempt last season, to pick up our National Game Award for goal of the season is sure to have wowed all.
