From the Dugout With Manager Cameron Mawer Good afternoon and welcome to the Premier Plus Stadium for today’s league fixture against Coventry Sphinx. Firstly, I’d like to welcome Joe and his staff, the Coventry Sphinx players, officials and supporters to St Neots. Joe is a very good manager and I’m sure he’ll have his side competing towards the top end of the table this season. They come into today in good form, so we know this will be another tough test. From our point of view, there is a lot to be positive about. We currently sit 7th in the league with 17 points from eight games, and we’ve put ourselves in a good position while also continuing to compete across the cup competitions. The last couple of games against Coton Green probably sum up football perfectly. We were extremely disappointed to lose 1–0 in the league after a game we felt we dominated and should have taken something from. We then went back there in the cup the following week and found ourselves 2–0 down. With five minutes remaining, it would have been very easy for the players to accept it wasn’t going to be our day. Instead, the response and character from the group was outstanding, and to come back and win the game showed the spirit, togetherness and belief we have within this squad. We’re now entering an incredibly busy October with nine games – five league fixtures and four cup games. It’s going to test the whole squad, but these are the periods you want to be involved in as a football club. We also have the FA Vase to look forward to, a competition we want to enjoy and hopefully progress in. With the team going well in the league and still fighting on different fronts in the cups, we’d love to see more people getting behind the lads. The players are working incredibly hard and representing the club with pride, and having a strong home support can make a massive difference. There’s plenty of football ahead of us and plenty to be excited about. Today is another opportunity to keep building and continue the positive start we’ve made. Thank you for your support, get behind the lads and enjoy the game.

Club History St Neots Town Football Club, nicknamed ‘The Saints’ - St Neots Town was formed in 1879, simply as ‘St Neots’. Operating as an amateur side in its early years, the club tasted its first major success by becoming the inaugural winners of the Huntingdonshire Senior Cup in the 1888-89 season. They dominated local cup competitions around the turn of the century while playing in the Biggleswade & District League.
The club went through a couple of early name changes, becoming St Neots & District in 1924, and joining the Bedfordshire & District League (later the South Midlands League), which they won in 1932- 33. They made their first foray into the United Counties League (UCL) in 1936 before the outbreak of World War II disrupted regional football. Post-War Eras and Name Changes (1950-1988) In 1949, the club became founder members of the Metropolitan League, winning a league and cup double in their very first season. They officially settled on the name St Neots Town F.C. in 1951. The late 1960s marked one of the most successful eras for the club:
•
FA Cup Run (1966-67): The Saints enjoyed their best-ever run in the FA Cup, reaching the First Round Proper, where they put up a valiant effort before falling 2-0 away to Walsall.
•
The Record Streak: By 1969, the club won the Huntingdonshire Senior Cup for a staggering 12th consecutive season, setting a historic record for senior cup wins in England.
•
League Double (1967-68): They rejoined the UCL and quickly claimed the Premier Division title and League Knockout Cup double.
However, the late 1980s brought severe hardship. In 1987, the owner of their long-term Shortsands Yard home sold the ground to developers. Forced to play on a borrowed works pitch and drowning in outstanding debt, the club was forced to completely disband in 1988. Reformation and Modern Era (1990-Present) The club’s absence from football lasted only two seasons. In 1990, local investors stepped in to reform St Neots Town FC. Starting from scratch in the Huntingdonshire Junior League and playing on communal council pitches at Priory Park, the team won four consecutive titles to earn readmission into the UCL senior divisions by 1994. The club climbed back up the non-league ladder, moving into their modern Rowley Park stadium in 2008. To signal their high ambitions, they even appointed former Northern Ireland internationals Steve Lomas and Michael Hughes to their management team in 2009, alongside former Fulham midfielder Sylvain Legwinski. This ambition paid off with a dominant 2010- 11 season, breaking multiple league records en-route to winning the UCL Premier Division and initiating a rise through the Southern League systems. Following their championship campaign in the United Counties League Premier Division South, The Saints continue their journey up the English football pyramid. Cameron Mawer was appointed First Team manager in May 2023 in first season suffered heartache in league play-off in UCL North Premier, to achieve promotion following season as champions, the progression back to step 4 & the Northern Premier League, Saints stay was short and were relegated back to UCL Premier South for upcoming season.
In the Chair With Chairman Barry Cavilla
Good afternoon and welcome back to the Premier Plus stadium for today’s United Counties Premier South Division league match. Today we Welcome the players ,officials and supporters of Coventry Sphinx to the home of the Saints for this challenging match between 2 Evenly poised teams just outside the top 5 looking to close the gap and stay in touch with the leading pack. Coventry Sphinx have been in good form like ourselves and it will be a real challenge today to secure more points in this early home season fixture for the Saints and to keep in touch and maintain our own momentum and determined performances to keep pushing forward as a club. Cameron and the Team come of the back of a good away win at Coton Green in the UCL league cup last week and I am certain the team will want to build on this and keep putting in performances and picking up vital Home points needed to continue to challenge and stay in touch with the leading pack. Games come thick and fast as we compete for league and cup successes and keep our winning ways in building a good foundation for the rest of our season. So with your incredible support behind them as always, let’s give the boys that extra lift today and help to push them onwards and upwards and make it our day .
Finally just a reminder we have another Home game next Tuesday 6th October 7-45 KO against Moulton FC. Look forward to catching up and seeing many of you soon.
Best wishes
Barry
Club Kit Supplier
Story behind New kit The journey behind this season’s NEW kit started back early October when the club reached out to Sean Pankhurst Founder / Owner / Designer of Teamex Sportwear. From initial discussions Sean presented a number of kit concepts which showed strong links to our history and to the town which really impressed us. Hopefully you’ve seen the kit release on social media and massive thanks need to go to our First Team Sponsor Amplified—if you’ve seen it I hope you agree its brilliant.
The Home Kit is celebrating the 60 years on from the clubs best FA Cup run when the 1966 team reached the 1st round proper against Walsall FC –losing 2-0. A great achievement and it was fantastic to have Terry Reedman come down & support the filming of kit release and listen to his stories of that season and his time with St Neots Town FC. Also included in shirt design is map of TOWN.
The Away Kit a return to tradition away shirt colours & is celebrating St Neots Town unique connection between the CLUB and the TOWN—the shirt design includes a plan view of the 4 lanterns in St Neots market square. Also included in ALL the shirt designs is the ribbon from the St Neots sign.
The WARM UP shirt we hope will be a fan favourite, again link reference in the club crest to River Ouse Limited Number of shirt & sizes available via club shop hut & orders can be place via Teamex Sportswear use this link.

OPPONENTS SPOTLIGHT With Club President John Walker COVENTRY SPHINX (the sphinx) Year founded: 1946 Chairman: Joey Fletcher Club Website: www.pitchero.com/coventrysphinx
GOOD AFTERNOON AND A WARM WELCOME TO COVENTRY SPHINX FOR THEIR SECOND VISIT TO ST NEOTS TOWN FC Their first visit was last season when both our teams were competing in the Midland Division of the Northern Premier League. Sadly, we were both relegated only to find ourselves in the United Counties League South where both have made a promising start to the new campaign. At present our visitors sit in sixth place in the league table with 18 points from 10 matches whilst our lads are a place and a point behind, but we have two matches in hand. Our two league meetings last season showed contrasting fortunes for our two sides. At home our lads slipped to a 3-0 defeat, but earlier in the season a hat trick from Rhys Thorpe helped us to a 3-2 victory. At the end of the season our visitors were 21st in the table with 41 points from their 42 league fixtures whilst our lads were just two points better-off, but we were both relegated.
Last week our visitors defeated FC Peterborough by the odd goal in five after conceding an early goal. Their Cup records this season have been disappointing. They did win one match in the FA Vase beating Cradley Heath 5-3 at home in their first match but then there were three defeats at Sutton United (FA Cup), Eccleshall (FA Vase), and at home Coton Green (League Cup). However away from home in the League they have so far suffered one defeat – away to league leaders Knowle. Previous meetings of our teams:

OPPONENTS SPOTLIGHT Club History The history of Coventry Sphinx began in 1946. Armstrong Whitworth Aircraft FC had been highly successful in the city before and during the Second World War and changed their name to Sphinx FC. AWA’s legacy was replicated by the new club. Sphinx won a number of league and cup competitions throughout the 1950s and 1960s before playing a major role in the formation of the Coventry Alliance and continuing to win trophies in the following decades. Coventry underwent significant socioeconomic change in the 1990s. The recession led to the closure of factories in the city and surrounding areas, which in turn led to the dissolution of many of Coventry’s football clubs. Sphinx needed a new challenge and joined the Midland Combination Football League in 1993. In our first season in the Midland Combination we were promoted from Division 2 and reached the semi-finals of the Birmingham Sunday Vase. A second consecutive promotion followed thanks to a second-placed finish in Division 1 the next season. With promotion to the top division of the Midland Combination secured it was decided that the club should be linked more closely to our city. We became Coventry Sphinx and the first match under our new name was against a Coventry City XI at our home ground. Throughout its history, our club has been served by countless loyal and hard-working local people who’ve contributed enormously to Coventry Sphinx on and off the field. Through their dedication we have achieved some unbeatable highs. There have also been times of great tragedy. In November 2001, Sphinx manager Willie Knibbs was killed in a car accident on the way home from a cup match at Meir KA. Willie was a former Sphinx player in his second spell as manager. His death was a terrible loss to our club and to local football in Coventry. After a painful season, Sphinx went on to win the Midland Combination Challenge Cup and it was renamed the Willie Knibbs Cup as a mark of respect. Our main stand is also named in Willie’s honour. Sphinx became one of the leading teams in the Midland Combination Premier League, finishing as runners-up in our first season and again in both 2005 and 2006. We reached the final of the Endsleigh Challenge Cup on three occasions, losing to Alveston at Villa Park in 1999 but beating Coventry Marconi in 2003 and Feckenham in 2005. We also won the Coventry Evening Telegraph Cup in successive seasons, making Sphinx the last winners of the competition at Highfield Road and the first at the Ricoh Arena. Although first team success is a driving force, the heartbeat of our club is the thriving junior section. Formed in 1997, it started with just three teams and has grown ever since. There are now hundreds of players representing Coventry Sphinx and we were the first club in Coventry to achieve the FA Charter.
OPPONENTS SPOTLIGHT Under manager Paul Charnley, Coventry Sphinx’s men’s first team completed a remarkable treble achievement in May 2007. In addition to finally becoming champions of the Midland Football Combination – achieving promotion to the Midland Football Alliance in the process – Sphinx won the Coventry Charity Cup and the BCFA Midland Floodlit Cup. The 2007/08 season saw Sphinx enjoy our best ever run in the FA Vase, reaching the quarter-final for the very first time and losing controversially to Kirkham & Wesham, the eventual Wembley winners, in a replay at Sphinx Drive. We made a run to the semi-finals of the League Cup in the same season and went on to win the Midland Alliance Polymac League Cup by beating Westfields in the final in 2009/10. In 2014/15 the club was honoured to become a founder member of the Midland Football League Premier Division. After a top ten finish under Stuart Dutton, Lee Knibbs took over as manager in the autumn of 2017. Lee is the son of Willie Knibbs and returned to the club after an earlier spell as assistant manager to Danny McSheffrey. He guided Sphinx to some of our most memorable results of the decade before deciding to step aside in November 2019. Knibbs was succeeded by his assistants, John Woodward and Shaun Thomas, who became the club’s joint managers and ended the truncated 2019/20 season on a long unbeaten run, the foundation of Sphinx’s greatest achievement to come. Sphinx made a sideways move as part of FA restructuring ahead of the 2021/22 season, competing in a newly formed Premier Division South in the United Counties League. In our first season we finished in fourth place, losing only twice in the second half of the season, and enjoyed a long run in the FA Vase, narrowly missing out on another quarter-final. The following season saw Sphinx lose on penalties again in the same round of the FA Vase but 2022/23 was the best season in our history. In the space of one week in April, our club acquired the freehold to the Sphinx Drive ground for the very first time and secured the United Counties League Premier Division South title with a 7-0 win against Eynesbury Rovers. Sphinx won all of the last eleven league matches to close a big gap at the top and become champions. We scored 106 goals and ended the season three points clear of runners-up Rugby Town to confirm promotion to the Northern Premier League Midlands Division. 2023/24 was our first ever season at Step 4. We avoided relegation to maintain our eighth tier status for another season. Success at Step 4 was harder to maintain and in the 2025/26 season after a run of poor results John Woodward was replaced by Joe Connelly. Unfortunately, the club were relegated back to the United Counties League. The structure in place at senior, youth and junior levels for both men and women promises a bright future for Coventry Sphinx as we work towards the progress Willie Knibbs’ memory deserves.

Looking back…….. With Club President John Walker Another in a series of historical records looking back at our fortunes in a past season (both good and bad!)
ST NEOTS TOWN FC 2015/2016 SEASON This is another in the series of historical records, highlighting our recent spell in the Southern League depicting both the highs and the lows in the recent proud history of the Club. After our most successful season in the history of the club the previous season it was back to earth with a bump as we slumped fifteen places down the league table – in freefall with just one league victory in our final fourteen matches! We finished without silverware just four points above the relegation zone, and in addition we lost the services of Manager David Batch after he had overseen 61 matches. At Christmas we were 12th in the league table – just five points shy of a play-off place and our dip in results and loss of fortunes almost coincided with the loss of striker Tom Meechan who was at that time our leading marksman with 25 goals in 38 appearances. Subsequent to his departure we won just one match as our season spiralled downwards. Without a Reserve team we had to rely on inexperienced youngsters to bolster our flagging fortunes. League

In 23 home league matches we scored just 26 goals giving us only six home victories in 23 starts. Away from home we were more prolific scoring 43 goals but ironically it was almost win, only if we score because our four away victories produced 20 goals – only six less than our total home tally, winning at Bedworth (6-0), Cirencester (5-2), Paulton (5-2) and Cambridge City (4-1). A busy FA Cup schedule saw us draw at Tilbury but ordered by the FA to replay the match again away from home before drawing at home to Worthing but losing the away replay in a penalty shoot-out. Memorably we only got as far as the M25 in the replay before a coach breakdown meant another trip the following Tuesday. We ran no Reserve side. DEPLETED SAINTS WIN SHOOT-OUT Coton Green

St Neots Town
2 (pens 3-4)
Saints Manager Cameron Mawer opted to use this League Cup match to field the majority of the rest of his squad making no fewer than eight changes to the side that had won in the league at Histon in midweek. It looked that he had overplayed his hand when the St Neots trailed by 0-2 with five minutes left. However, the visiting side then staged a dramatic late comeback scoring twice in the 85th and 89th minutes to send the tie into an instant death penalty shoot-out. Step forward hero goalkeeper Ben Heath who saved two of the Coton penalty kicks and St Neots had moved into the next round of the League Cup, where they will host Skegness Town who play in the Northern Division of the UCL. Before the late drama there had been early controversy when a St Neots ‘goal’ had been ruled out, and whilst the Referee was still explaining his decision, the home side took a quick free kick to break away to score an opening goal with the visiting defence absent. So, justice seemed to be done leaving the Manager with a selection headache for next Saturday’s league visit by Coventry Sphinx. The first ten minutes saw the two sides sizing each other up with very little significant goalmouth action. Then after 16 minutes St Neots won a corner delivered to the far post by Dammy Nickels with the ball finishing in the net off a defender. As the away side celebrated the Referee disallowed the goal for an infringement and as the away side questioned the decision Coton took a quick free kick to release Trea Bertie to advance through a non-existent defence to open the scoring. St Neots further appeals were waved away with Scott Joseph booked for dissent. The visitors set about repairing the damage with the lively Connor Furlong seeing one shot saved and a second deflected whilst at the other end Ross Evans tested visiting keeper Ben Heath at his near post. St Neots were finding their co-ordination of passing awry and so found themselves under late first half pressure as Evans again got behind the defence to fire over the bar and then the same player was foiled as the under pressure visiting keeper dived at his feet. In the final minute of the half the home side increased their lead when Brad Maslen-Jones was left unmarked at the far post and he netted with a low drive. St Neots looked more focussed after the break and a home player was booked for a foul as the visitors pressed forward. A well-placed Furlong effort was pushed over the bar by the home keeper whilst at the other end Heath did well to save from Evans at the expense of a corner. The visitors then had skipper Harvey Henderson sin-binned after he had been penalised for what looked a legitimate challenge, but to their credit the visiting side reorganised and defended well. With only five minutes left St Neots pulled back a goal when substitute Dimagio Robinson took full advantage of a goalkeeping hesitation to give St Neots some late hope and with just one minute left hard-working James Stainsby scored to send the tie into a penalty shoot-out. After four penalties it was all square with Dammy Nickels and Max Egan on target for St Neots but then David Starling saw his effort saved by the home keeper with Ben Heath saving the next kick to keep the shoot-out level. Further successful kicks by Aaron Addy and Dimagio Robinson put St Neots 4-3 ahead before Heath saved for the second time to see St Neots through to the next round. St Neots: Heath, Addy, Nickels, Grant, Henderson, Joseph, Furlong, Egan, Stainsby, McKenna-Manall, Starling Subs: Robinson (for McKenzie-Manall 52 mins), Southern (for Joseph 81 mins), Keen, and Mawer. Cards: Joseph (Y – 16 mins), Mawer (Y – 16 mins), Henderson (SB – 69 mins), Southern (Y – 88 mins) Scorers: Robinson (85 mins), Stainsby (89 mins) Coton Green: Hall, Jay, Rosser, Fox, Hunt, Recci, Bertie, Tomkinson, Maslen-Jones, Evans, Dainty Subs: Watkins (for Dainty 73 mins), O’Connor (for Fox 76 mins), D’Lionga, Letford, and Shaw. Rowley Club Mascot— Follow on
@Rowley_StNeots
Last season was my very first as the official mascot of St Neots Town FC... and what a debut it was! I've been busy spreading smiles, cheering on the Saints and making plenty of memories. If you see me around the ground this season, don't be shy – come over and say hello!
Selfies? Absolutely! I'm always happy to pose for photos, hand out high-fives and celebrate with supporters of all ages. If you spot me around the ground, come and say hello—I promise I don't bite!
Leading Out the Future Stars One of my favourite jobs is leading our young matchday mascots onto the pitch alongside the first team. Seeing those huge smiles as they walk out in front of the crowd is something special. Get your youth team signed up this season for this great experience.
Racing for a Great Cause One of the biggest adventures of last season was competing in the Mascot Gold Cup at Wetherby Racecourse. I may not have brought home the trophy, but together we raised money for two fantastic children's charities—and that's a win in my book!
Out and About in the Community Football is about more than 90 minutes on a Saturday. I'm always looking for opportunities to visit local schools, community groups, charities and businesses to help spread the word about St Neots Town FC. If you'd like Rowley to pay you a visit, we'd love to hear from you! team signed up this season for this great experience. So, keep your eyes peeled for me around the ground this season! Come over for a high-five, a selfie or a chat - and if you're really lucky... I might even invite you onto the pitch at half-time to take a penalty against yours truly. Just don't expect me to make it easy!

U18’s Match Report Arlesey 2 Saints 3 What an away day this was!! We did not help ourselves in the 1st minute with some sloppy play which resulted in a corner, then 10 minutes in we conceded after a number of errors - to summarise we hadn’t switch our brains on yet. Then the boys got down to business, the defence turned into monsters, the midfield found their men and we grew into the game. I started to see the patterns of our football develop and then a strong run from fullback into the final 3rd won us a free kick with 1 minute left of the first half. A great bit of game knowledge from the coach realised they put a man on the post so we crowded the box and it paid off with the knock down dropping to Yosty who made no mistake and tucked it away nicely. Game on!!
2nd half started and this was a real battle from both sides, we looked comfortable with the back 4 being front footed and meeting everything as soon as it landed, the midfield found their shape much quicker then all of sudden a great cross found them 2 v 1 and we was behind again. Now this is where it could have gone one way or the other but the lads put their chest out, stood tall and stepped in to another level. Some tenacious play through midfield with a touch of beauty about our passing allowed Tristan to whip a great ball in, Yosti knocked it back to Agey who buried it 2-2! We battled on, not giving them any time to breathe, then a great ball into the channel by William allowed Agey to do what he does, chase it down and through sheer determination he won the ball and squared to Yosti 2-3!! From here the boys really dug deep with Arlesey throwing everything at us but every single lad out there stood tall and we saw the game out and travelled home with all 3 points! We turned up with only 12 players but each one of them rose to the occasion and had each other’s backs. We as coaches could not be prouder!! The u16s - Pierce and Harry, you know how I loved your game today, you gave it all for us and are two very good players. Goals - Edward x2 Agey x1 Man of the match - Agey
