From the Dugout With Development Lead Lee Keen I would like to welcome Daventry's players, staff and supporters to the PremierPlus stadium for today’s game, and hope you have safe travels.

This is our first game at the level and a big day for the club and all the hard work that has gone on in pre season. To our fans, you will have seen some of these boys already play for the first team with Jake Holman and Zak Thompson both making their debuts away at Highgate United. This group is young, hungry and talented. And although initially there may be some mixed performances and results, I’m confident that this young group can shine and show everyone how good they are. We will work hard to earn your trust in us and make you proud.

This team is designed to help these young boys make the jump to the first team and it wouldn’t be possible without the vision and support from Mark and Gary, Cam and Nunny who have been instrumental in how we work this year. I am very new to the club and I have been blown away by how the club is run and how hard everyone works to make sure we as a club are first class.

The Return of the Reserves Team The return of Reserves (Development) is TODAY……. The club have not had a Reserves team since 2019-20 season and in lots of supporters & club officials view this has been a gap and missed opportunity, so it pleasing to see the Reserves back and will be a key part for the clubs Development Pathway. Shout out to SolidPro who have sponsored the Reserves (Development) Team

The Team will be managed by Lee Keen, Joe Egan, Mick Draper & Patryk Gawrysiak and will play out of United Counties Reserves League. Really exciting times for the club as we look at establishing a pathway to FIRST team.

The Return of the Reserves Team This isn’t the first time the club have re-introduced a Reserve side and I say that from first hand experience. We have a fantastic facility that supports Development football across U7’s to U18’s and although some success with players from the Academy Programme & U18’s progressing into first team squads its not been sustainable from our club. Last season the club made some tough decisions (unpopular in some people’s eyes) to make changes to the then called Academy, to shake up the pathway, changing the name & taking a ‘RESET’ in our approach. This will not be overnight change, but I'm sure we will look back and feel it was the right decision.

Lee will take you through the season as we rejoin this journey– The GCE UCL Reserves league will give this Developing side a good experience and is a better placed league to our past experiences. We have learnt from the past and will support Lee & his team. Please get behind Lee & team, I’m sure you will see some future First team regulars and fingers crossed they start with a win !! Club History St Neots Town Football Club, nicknamed ‘The Saints’ - St Neots Town was formed in 1879, simply as ‘St Neots’. Operating as an amateur side in its early years, the club tasted its first major success by becoming the inaugural winners of the Huntingdonshire Senior Cup in the 1888-89 season. They dominated local cup competitions around the turn of the century while playing in the Biggleswade & District League.

The club went through a couple of early name changes, becoming St Neots & District in 1924, and joining the Bedfordshire & District League (later the South Midlands League), which they won in 1932- 33. They made their first foray into the United Counties League (UCL) in 1936 before the outbreak of World War II disrupted regional football. Post-War Eras and Name Changes (1950-1988) In 1949, the club became founder members of the Metropolitan League, winning a league and cup double in their very first season. They officially settled on the name St Neots Town F.C. in 1951. The late 1960s marked one of the most successful eras for the club:

FA Cup Run (1966-67): The Saints enjoyed their best-ever run in the FA Cup, reaching the First Round Proper, where they put up a valiant effort before falling 2-0 away to Walsall.

The Record Streak: By 1969, the club won the Huntingdonshire Senior Cup for a staggering 12th consecutive season, setting a historic record for senior cup wins in England.

League Double (1967-68): They rejoined the UCL and quickly claimed the Premier Division title and League Knockout Cup double.

However, the late 1980s brought severe hardship. In 1987, the owner of their long-term Shortsands Yard home sold the ground to developers. Forced to play on a borrowed works pitch and drowning in outstanding debt, the club was forced to completely disband in 1988. Reformation and Modern Era (1990-Present) The club’s absence from football lasted only two seasons. In 1990, local investors stepped in to reform St Neots Town FC. Starting from scratch in the Huntingdonshire Junior League and playing on communal council pitches at Priory Park, the team won four consecutive titles to earn readmission into the UCL senior divisions by 1994. The club climbed back up the non-league ladder, moving into their modern Rowley Park stadium in 2008. To signal their high ambitions, they even appointed former Northern Ireland internationals Steve Lomas and Michael Hughes to their management team in 2009, alongside former Fulham midfielder Sylvain Legwinski. This ambition paid off with a dominant 2010- 11 season, breaking multiple league records en-route to winning the UCL Premier Division and initiating a rise through the Southern League systems. Following their championship campaign in the United Counties League Premier Division South, The Saints continue their journey up the English football pyramid. Cameron Mawer was appointed First Team manager in May 2023 in first season suffered heartache in league play-off in UCL North Premier, to achieve promotion following season as champions, the progression back to step 4 & the Northern Premier League, Saints stay was short and were relegated back to UCL Premier South for upcoming season.

FA Cup & FA Vase The draws have been made for the early rounds of the FA Cup and FA Vase and they have served up a mixed bag of fortunes for our local clubs. The Extra-Preliminary Round of the FA Cup kicks off on 8th August with just three local clubs involved with St Ives exempt until the next round.

St Neots are the only of the trio drawn away and they face a tough test with an away trip to Stowmarket Town who finished midtable in the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League last season. The two sides have net once before in the competition. That was in 2001/02 when St Neots won a home tie by the odd goal in five with Steve Kuhne, Vince Petty, and Jason Meeds scoring a in a 3-2 victory. Eynesbury Rovers are at home to Fakenham Town who finished fifth in the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League last season whilst Godmanchester face the toughest test of the trio as they host Step Four side Newmarket Town who play in the North Division of the Isthmian League. In the First Round Qualifying of the FA Vase only two of our five local teams are involved on 15th August. Eaton Socon host Yaxley from the UCL whilst Godmanchester travel to Thurlow Nunn club Ely City. In the Second Round Qualifying two of the three remaining local clubs know their opponents with Eynesbury travelling to members of the Peterborough League Netherton United and St Neots hosting Thetford whom they met in the competition as recently as 2023/24 when they defeated them in a penalty shoot-out at home after a goalless draw. Huntingdon Town travel to the winners of the first-round tie between Wisbech Town and Framlingham whilst Eaton Socon could host Kirkley and Pakefield if they win their first-round tie. Finally, a first round victory for Godmanchester would earn them a home second round tie with the winners of the match between Harleston and Whittlesey. FA CUP

Club Welfare With Club Welfare Officer Gemma Keech My name is Gemma Keech, and I am proud to be the Club Welfare Officer (CWO) at St Neots Town Football Club.

My role is to help create and maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for everyone at the club. This includes overseeing safeguarding procedures, responding to any welfare concerns, and ensuring that all coaches and volunteers have current FA Criminal Record Checks (DBS) and up-to-date safeguarding training. The welfare of every child, young person, and adult at risk involved with the club is my priority. This covers players within our Development Teams, as well as Under-18 players who represent the First Team, Reserve Team, and Under-23s. I am the main point of contact for players, parents, carers, volunteers, and club members who have any safeguarding or welfare concerns relating to these groups. I was appointed to this voluntary position by St Neots Town Football Club due to my professional background in Education and Children’s Social Care, where I developed extensive knowledge and experience in safeguarding and child protection. I believe it is important to be approachable, supportive, and available to anyone who may need advice, guidance, or someone to talk to about a concern. St Neots return to the UCL saw them produce a pallid opening day performance that contributed towards visitors Northampton Sileby earning their first ever league point at St Neots. Despite the busy close season activity Manager Cameron Mawar named just one new signing in his starting line-up plus three others returning to the club. The newcomer was Connor Barnes who led the line well but lacked support, and there were welcome returns to the side for Christian Tavernier who left last mid-season, for Jake Kerins who last appeared in 2020 after 18 appearances, and for Joe Sutton who left six seasons ago after 45 appearances. However, perhaps the most welcome appearance as a second half substitute was the inspirational Michael Amaeshike who has been on the long-term injury list since his last appearance in October last year. Scott Joseph a former regular squad member with just one previous cup match start was in the opening line-up as was striker James Stainsby. Sileby who finished seventeenth in the final table last year looked inventive on the break but despite having the better chances their finishing was very poor and goalless outcome to the contest always seemed likely. The match got off to a bright that saw the ball in the opposition net after just three minutes. A trademark long throw from Lewis Burgess ended up in the goal but after awarding a goal the Referee changed his mind after consulting an Assistant who confirmed that there had been no touch on the ball in the packed penalty area. That seemed to deflate the home side, and the visitors seemed to grow in confidence with this let-off. Louis Barratt then went clear of the home defence but shot wildly over the bar to the relief of defenders. St Neots principal attacking ploy was the lengthy throws into the penalty area by Lewis Burgess, but the home side could not find the finishing touch. After half an hour home skipper Rob Pasrker cleared off the St Neots goal line and five minutes later Josh Drain chipped over the advancing home keeper, only to see his effort rebound from the woodwork. St Neots seemed glad to hear the half time whistle allowing a welcome time to regroup. St Neots looked far better after their break. Harvey Henderson headed over from a Joe Sutton corner and Connor Barnes went close and this was followed by a significant substitution as Michael Amaeshike made his return to the side after his lengthy injury break. Barnes then saw a shot blocked after neat play by James Stainsby and from a lengthy Burgess throw Sutton shot wide. After 71 minutes a full-length parry by visiting keeper John Meadows denied Amaeshike a goal and then the same St Neots player headed over the bar from a corner. Despite St Neots looking more positive in the late stages of the match they were unable to penetrate a well drilled visiting defence, and they had to settle for a share of the points in what was overall a disappointing performance. Without really extending themselves St Neots eased to their first victory back in the United Counties League with a result more comfortable than the 2-0 scoreline suggests. They dominated much of the first half and although the home side came back strongly after the break they seldom looked like threatening the visitors’ lead. However, the match finished with controversy when visiting striker Connor Barnes was heavily brought down by a home defender with the perpetrator lucky to earn just a caution. It was the fifth UCL meeting of the two sides and St Neots maintained their 100% record in that sequence of matches. Manager Cameron Mawer made just one team change reinstating Magloire Muyembe who had been unavailable for the first match, so Christian Taverner started on the bench. The Godmanchester line-up included former Saint Declan Rogers in midfield. St Neots began in confident style and in only, their second attack they took the lead when from a lengthy throw in by Lewis Burgess that reached the far post Connor Barnes touched home to record his first St Neots goal. Magloire Muyembe then beat a defender to screw his effort just wide of the far post and St Neots looked well in control early on. Rovers first real effort came after 25 minutes following a corner but Josh Smith’s effort was too high, and six minutes later there was a moment of controversy when the ball struck a defenders’ arm in a St Neots attack but despite appeals the Referee waved play on. After 35 minutes following another lengthy Burgess throw, Muyembe had the ball in the Rovers net, but he was defeated by an offside flag. However, the influence of the lengthy throws that the home defence could not contain proved pivotal when two minutes before the The home side resumed in more positive style and put the visiting defence under some early second half pressure. However, the final finish was missing as visiting skipper Robbie Parker was able to marshal a tight visiting defence. Craig Collins saw an effort blocked by a defender following a breakaway Rovers attack before St Neots introduced substitute Michael Amaeshike who quickly picked up a booking for a mistimed tackle. Although the home side were competing well they failed to create clear cup chances and James Goff was rarely tested. With the game beginning to be played largely in midfield chances were few with St Neots happy to slow the pace of the game and keep possession. Both sides introduced substitutes to little effect and the game petered out until that final injury that led to some six added minutes. MAGLOIRE MUYEMBE SETS NEW RECORD

A record fell on St Neots first ever trip to Highgate (Birmingham) when Magloire Muyembe became the first player in more than 20 years to score four goals in a St Neots League match. He was also the first to achieve this feat away from home. The previous two occasions this has been achieved in home matches since the reformation of the Club in 1993 were in 2005/06 (Steve Kuhne) and 1999/2000 (Paul Carey). Muyembe scored after just 29 seconds of the match and followed that up with a second half hat-trick in a spell of just nine minutes. Last season he scored just twice in 18 appearances. Away from that record St Neots struggled to add to that very early goal against a side that had conceded fourteen goals in their first two UCL outings. The home side defended in numbers with a view to not conceding goals rather than scoring their own and they managed just one first half shot at James Goff’s goal which was wide of target. Manager Cameron Mawer who was also the fifth substitute, made two team changes bringing in Michael Amaeshike, fit again after two games on the substitutes bench, and Will Grocott for his club debut, that pair replacing the injured Connor Barnes and Scott Joseph who started on the bench. Before the spectators had time to settle in their seats the lively Muyembe was perfectly placed to tap in from close range after James Stainsby pulled the ball back from the bye line for Connor Furlong to return the ball into the six yards box. That should have built confidence for the visitors, but they found the packed home defence difficult to penetrate and the young home keeper in defiant form. Despite winning a stream of corners St Neots were unable to find a significant finish although Joe Sutton cut in to test the keeper. Daniel Kimpungui had the only shot for Highgate in the first half, but hid effort was wide whilst at the other end just before the break Stainsby beat two defenders to set up Muyembe but off-balance he skied his effort over the bar. After the half time break it was St Neots who varied their tactics to a more attacking style and after Highgate had responded with their first effort high over the bar, Muyembe took over centre stage to rip the home defence to shreds. After 57 minutes he was perfectly placed to convert a Furlong cross to increase St Neots’ lead and then he added two further goals in as many minutes. After 64 minutes a snap-shot from outside the area left the home keeper statuesque as the ball hit the back of the net and in St Neots next attack it was Muyembe again who converted Sutton’s cross to leave the home defence in tatters. Four minutes later with St Neots caught square in defence the determined youthful home side, who refused to capitulate broke through for Mason Stevens to claim their first ever UCL goal. That was a wake-up call for St Neots who never looked like conceding further goals. They regrouped and Michae l Amaeshike almost extended the lead with a header the wrong side of a goalpost, and Henderson up for a corner headed over the bar. There was late disappointment when substitute Fahad Hassani was booked for a mistimed challenge. St Neots: Goff, Kerins, Burgess, Parker, Henderson, Grocott, Furlong, Amaeshike. Leading Out the Future Stars One of my favourite jobs is leading our young matchday mascots onto the pitch alongside the first team. Seeing those huge smiles as they walk out in front of the crowd is something special. Get your youth team signed up this season for this great experience.

Racing for a Great Cause One of the biggest adventures of last season was competing in the Mascot Gold Cup at Wetherby Racecourse. I may not have brought home the trophy, but together we raised money for two fantastic children's charities—and that's a win in my book!

Out and About in the Community Football is about more than 90 minutes on a Saturday. I'm always looking for opportunities to visit local schools, community groups, charities and businesses to help spread the word about St Neots Town FC.
