CORBY TOWN (the Steelmen) Year Founded: 1948 Chairman: Stevie Noble Club Website: www.corbytownfc.co.uk GOOD AFTERNOON AND A WARM WELCOME TO THE PREMIER PLUS STADIUM TO CORBY TOWN PLAYERS AND SUPPORTERS. The first league meeting of our two sides this season was our first away league game of the current campaign way back on 13th August. We fell behind early on to a Connor Tomlinson goal but levelled through Rhys Thorpe on the stroke ofhalf time. However, Aaron Nuttall hit the winning goal for our hosts midway through the second half. Since then, our visitors have had varying fortunes and are currently tenth in the table five points shy of a play-off place. In September last year after five matches they led the league table for a couple of weeks and now they need other results to go their way if they are to reach the end of season playoffs again. Last weekend they recorded a 2-0 away victory at struggling Coventry Sphinx. Last season they finished distant runners-up to champions Quorn and won their first play-off match with Long Eaton by a goal to nil. However, in the final play off they were beaten by the odd goal in three by Worcester City who had beaten Anstey Nomads in their play-off match.

In the FA Cup this season Corby defeated Northampton Sileby Rangers but then last at home to Gainsborough Trinity who are members of the Northern League Premier Division.

In the FA Trophy this season Corby had a great run. They defeated Lichfield City away from home in the first qualifying round and then beat Sutton Coldfield at home in the next match. In the third qualifying round they drew away at Quorn but won a penalty shoot-out to go into the competition proper. They then defeated Spalding away by a goal to nil before coming unstuck in the second round of the competition beaten 3-0 away at higher ranked Kidderminster Harrierswho play in the National League North.

Previous meetings of our teams: Our sides have met ten times in league competition since the 2013/14 season.

Corby have won five of these meetings and St Neots two with the other three lost to COVID. We have also met twice in cup competitions here in St Neots. In the FA Trophy in 2017 we won 3-2 and four seasons earlier in the Red Insure (Southern League) Cup we won 3-0.

CLUB WELFARE OFFICER GEMMA KEECH My name is Gemma Keech and I am the Club Welfare Officer (CWO) for St Neots Town Football Club.

Each football club that offers youth and open aged football is required to have a Club Welfare Officer. I am responsible for ensuring the wellbeing of the children, young people and vulnerable adults who attend the club, whether that be within the Academy or players aged Under 18 in the First Team.

My role is to be the first point of contact for all club members and parents / carers regarding concerns for the welfare of anyone within the club that fall within this group.

St Neots Town Football Club have appointed me to this voluntary role because of my employment roles in Education and Children’s Social Care, and therefore my knowledge and experience in Safeguarding and Child Protection.

My aim to be an approachable person for young people and their parents or carers, as well as club members, where issues or concerns may arise. These issues may range from worries about not fitting in or feeling left out, an individual dangerous incident or situation, other adult or young persons’ behaviour or more serious allegations against another person, volunteer, member or professional at the Club.

Seasons Past - With John Walker This Edition Focuses on Season 1997/98 ST NEOTS TOWN FC 1997/98 SEASON This is another in the series of historical records, highlighting this time our fourth season at our Rowley Park stadium depicting both the highs and the lows in the recent proud history of the Club. This was probably the best and most exciting season for almost two decades in Step Five of the National League system despite not achieving our best-ever league finish during that period. Apart from the trophy for lifting the Step Six Division One championship and promotion in our first season back, this season saw the senior side pick-up its first Cup since our reformation and moving to our new ground – the Huntingdonshire Senior Cup, won at Somersham with a narrow 1-0 victory over Peterborough side Ortonians. In addition, on the cups front we were accepted into the FA Cup after a sixteen seasons’ absence, the Huntingdonshire Premier Cup after a one season absence and the East Anglia Cup for the first time since the 1974/75 season.

We failed to score at home in eight of our 20 league matches.

After winning our first FA Vase match at home to Downham Town we had to travel to Aveley in Essex in the next round where we lost 4-2 after extra time.

The Reserve side finished Champions of Reserve Division Two to earn promotion on goal difference from Yaxley Reserves. Their high scoring exploits continued with 107 league goals in 30 matches – one more than the previous season.

Gary Pilsworth and Phil Cavener resigned on February 24th and were replaced by the returning Guy Loveday for the last seventeen matches of the season

Opponent Spotlight CORBY TOWN

In 1958 Corby transferred to the Southern League, spending their first season in the NorthWestern Division, before being placed in Division One for the 1959–60 season. Despite only finishing sixth in 1961–62, Corby applied for election to the Football League. However, they failed to receive a single vote. After finishing seventh the following season the club applied again, and again received no votes. In 1963–64 they reached the first round of the FA Cup for a second time, losing 3–1 at home to Bristol City. They appeared in the first round again the following season, losing 3–1 at home to Hartlepool United. The season also saw them finish fourth in Division One, earning promotion to the Premier Division, as well as making another failed bid for Football League membership.

In 1965–66 Corby progressed beyond the first round of the FA Cup for the first time; after beating non-League Burton Albion 6–3 in the first round, they won 1–0 at Luton Town in a second round replay after the first match ended 2–2. In the third round they were beaten 6– 0 at Plymouth Argyle. The club applied for Football League membership for a fourth time, and for the first time received a single vote for their unsuccessful bid. The club made their final application in 1966–67, again receiving no votes. The following season saw another FA Cup first round appearance (a 1–0 defeat at Boston United) but ended in relegation to Division One. In 1971 the club were placed in Division One North after league reorganisation. Further reorganisation in 1979 and 1982 saw them placed in the Midland Division and then the Premier Division.

Corby remained in the Premier Division until being relegated at the end of the 1989–90 season, but made an immediate return to the Premier Division after finishing as Division One Midlands runners-up in 1990–91. After finishing bottom of the Premier Division in 1994– 95, the club were relegated again. In 1998 they were moved to the Division One South, and then were placed in Division One East for the 1999–2000 season. After being transferred to Division One West in 2004, they were moved back to Division One East the following season.

In 2005–06 they finished second, and were promoted to the Premier Division. The 2008–09 season saw Corby win the Premier Division, earning promotion to the Conference North.

In 2010–11 the club reached the first round of the FA Cup for the first time since the 1960s, losing 4–2 to Luton Town in a replay. They appeared in the first round again the following season, losing 3–1 at Bristol Rovers.

After four seasons in the Conference North, Corby were relegated at the end of the 2012–13 season. They were Southern League Premier Division champions again in 2014–15 and were promoted back to the renamed National League North. However, another relegation in 2015–16 saw the club relegated to the Premier Division of the Northern Premier League.

The club were transferred to Division One East of the Southern League at the end of the 2017–18 season as part of the restructuring of the non-League pyramid. The following season saw the club transferred to Division One Central of the Southern League. At the end of the 2020–21 season they were transferred to Division One Midlands of the Northern Premier League. The club were runners-up in the division in 2024–25, qualifying for the promotion play-offs. After defeating Long Eaton United 1–0 in the semi-finals, they were beaten 2–1 by Worcester City in the final.
