They are a very good footballing side with a lot of talented young players, and they are well coached in how they want to play the game”.

Like ourselves, they are involved in the fight at the bottom end of the table, so both teams know how important every point is at this stage of the season. Games like this are always competitive and intense because there is so much on the line. Welcome to everyone associated to Loughborough Students.

Over the last few weeks, we have seen a real improvement in our performances as a group.

The attitude, commitment and work rate from the players has been excellent, and you can see that the belief is still very much there within the squad. What we now need to do is turn those improved performances into improved results.

Last week’s game away at Anstey Nomads was a good example of that. Despite the defeat, there were a lot of positives to take from the performance. The players showed great character and competed well throughout the game, and on another day the result could easily have been different. Similarly, in the draw against Mickleover, I felt we deserved more from the game based on the chances we created and the effort the players put in. It’s frustrating when the performances are there but the points don’t quite reflect it, but we have to keep believing that if we continue playing the way we are, the results will come.

This league is incredibly competitive this season. The points tally needed to stay in the division is the highest it has ever been, which shows just how tight and demanding the competition has been. There are no easy games and every point has to be earned.

That is why it is so important for us to finish the season strongly and keep fighting in every match.

The message to the players is simple: keep working, keep believing and keep showing the togetherness that has been building within the group. If we can do that, then we give ourselves the best possible chance of achieving our objective.

Finally, I would like to thank all of our supporters for their continued backing. Your support makes a huge difference to the players and the staff, especially during a challenging period. We really appreciate you sticking with us and getting behind the team every week.

Loughborough are a very Young talented footballing team and have found this league challenging and have found points hard to come by like ourselves and have found themselves in a similar position as the Saints in a relegation battle.

After a short break I was fortunate to make the long trip last Saturday to Mickleover Sports and witnessed with all who travelled with us to see a spirited and dominate second half performance from the Saints to gain a valuable point away from home against strong opposition ,which hopefully will give Cameron and the Lads the belie and confidence combined with their fighting spirit to get ourselves out of this situation and secure our football status in Step 4.

GOOD AFTERNOON AND A WARM WELCOME TO THE PREMIER PLUS STADIUM TO LOUGHBOROUGH STUDENTS FOR THEIR FIRST VISIT In our only previous league meeting at the start of November last year our two sides drew 0-0 at the well-appointed Loughborough University campus stadium. It was a tightly fought match with few clear chances, but an outstanding full length save by the home keeper from visiting skipper Robbie Parker was the nearest to a goal being registered. At that time our lads were seventeenth in the league table with our visitors one place ahead of us on goal difference. However, since then our collective fortunes have waned and we find ourselves propping up the table in 24th position with our visitors just three points and two places ahead of us in the relegation zone having played one more match. Soi this afternoon’s match and the three points at stake could be of pivotal importance especially to the winners. Last week both sides picked up a valuable league point with our lads coming from behind to draw at Mickleover, and our visitors playing out a 0-0 home drawth their visitors Bedworth.

In the FA Cup this season our visitors made an early exit losing 1-2 to Barton Town from the Northern Counties East League in a replay after a 1-1 home draw. In the FA trophy they lost 5-1 to Malvern Town in their first outing in that competition. They have won just twice away from home this season in the league – at Lichfield where they completed their only league double this season, and at Long Eaton.

CLUB WELFARE OFFICER GEMMA KEECH My name is Gemma Keech and I am the Club Welfare Officer (CWO) for St Neots Town Football Club.

Each football club that offers youth and open aged football is required to have a Club Welfare Officer. I am responsible for ensuring the wellbeing of the children, young people and vulnerable adults who attend the club, whether that be within the Academy or players aged Under 18 in the First Team.

My role is to be the first point of contact for all club members and parents / carers regarding concerns for the welfare of anyone within the club that fall within this group.

St Neots Town Football Club have appointed me to this voluntary role because of my employment roles in Education and Children’s Social Care, and therefore my knowledge and experience in Safeguarding and Child Protection.

My aim to be an approachable person for young people and their parents or carers, as well as club members, where issues or concerns may arise. These issues may range from worries about not fitting in or feeling left out, an individual dangerous incident or situation, other adult or young persons’ behaviour or more serious allegations against another person, volunteer, member or professional at the Club.

In an entertaining bottom of the table clash both sides led, but on reflection they will feel that a draw is likely to be of little use to either, as they battle to avoid relegation back to Step Six. Both sides had penalty kicks – one converted and the other saved – but for all the effort shown a draw was probably a fair result. Three of the five sides above them in the league table won and now with just eight weeks of the season remaining relegation looms for both sides unless a dramatic improvement in form and results is forthcoming. Neither side have won since Christmas and results suggest that a losing battle is to be fought. Rugby only avoided relegation last season because they were reprieved when a club dropped out and St Neots look as though a one-season stay in the Northern Premier League is to be repeated. The one St Neots team change saw Kwadwo Bugyei-Kyei included in the starting line-up for his second appearance replacing the unavailable Marcus Gouldbourne.

The match got off to a lively start with Trey Charles playing against his former club cutting in to test James Goff, and the keeper also made a save on his line from a close-range effort by Rivel Mardenborough. St Neots hit back with a far post header from Rhys Thorpe stretching the keeper after 17 minutes. Five minutes later St Neots took the lead for only the second time since the first meeting of these two sides this season in mid-November. Sam Willis provided the cross from the right and Rhys Thorpe rose to head home at the far post.

Visiting keeper Charlie Woods then saved well from Harvey Williams who was employed in an unfamiliar central striking role and then the lively Callum Woodward shot wide when well placed. After 29 minutes the scores were level when Goff saved at full stretch from Charles but could not hold the ball and another former Saint Jamal Adams netted from close range. Woodward again tested Goff who was the busier of the two goalkeepers, and a minute before break the visitors produced a blow for the Saints as they took the lead with a second goal, as Sam Tye was left unmarked in the penalty area to head home a corner.

St Neots adopted a more positive attacking formation shortly after the break sacrificing defender Harvey Henderson and introducing Andrian Ankrah in an attacking midfield role.

MATCH REPORT Rugby Town (H) 28 February 2026 A Williams cross found the head Thorpe but Woods saved comfortably but just past the hour the scores were levelled when Williams was sent tumbling in the penalty area and from the spot Robbie Parker sent the keeper the wrong way.It was no less than St Neots deserved and for a while they looked the more confident side. However, Rugby rallied and when Charlie Bowen sent an opponent tumbling in the area another penalty kick was awarded.

Fortunately, Goff guessed correctly to push the ball away to be cleared by a defender. A free kick in a threatening position for the visitors was ballooned over the bar, and the points were shared which was a fair reflection on the contest.

Another away defeat by just the odd goal – and that was St Neots’ fourteenth defeat this season by just a single goal! So near yet so far appears to be their fate in what is proving to be a testing but very frustrating season back at Step Four. The team was not at full strength with Charlie Bowen unavailable and Eniola Agemoh-Davies injured so into the side came Riley Barrett for his debut at full back and Andrian Ankrah, recalled in midfield. With the Anstey pitch still under water the match was played (at the third attempt) at Quorn FC. After leading early on thanks to a gift own goal expectations were that St Neots might register a shock result, but it was not to be St Neots recorded the first shot on goal when Magloire Muyembe broke clear on the right in the first attack of the game, but his effort did not test home keeper Anthony Nunez. As the contest settled St Neots were clearly happy to sit back and invite the home side to attack a packed defence and then after fourteen minutes, they received an unexpected present when a lengthy throw by Lewis Burgess eluded a packed penalty area only to be mishandled by the home keeper who saw the ball creep over the line for a gift own goal. The home side were finding it difficult converting possession into clear chances, but Oscar Tonge should had done better from a narrow angle when he shot into the side netting. A Sam Willis free kick then flew harmlessly over the bar after Andy Ankrah had been hauled down and as the home side pressure continued an equaliser came on the half hour as St Neots failed to defend a corner and home skipper Jordan Annable headed home.

A snap-shot in the first minute of the second half by Henry Bestwick rattled the St Neots crossbar but the visitors replied with a swift attack that saw Harvey Williams bring a useful saved from Nunez. Both sides decided to vary their approach by introducing substitutes with St Neots bringing on Marcus Goldbourne for the limping Kwado Bugyei-Kyei and this move proved key for the home side with substitute Tobias Liversidge involved in the move that saw Courey Grantham put the home side in front seventeen minutes before time.

MATCH REPORT Anstey Nomads (A) 03 Mar 2026 St Neots predictably varied their attack and Rhys Thorpe at the far post headed inches over the bar from a right-wing cross nine minutes ahead of the final whistle. However, Anstey are an experienced side, and they successfully shut up shop running down the final few minutes in the face of an attempted late St Neots surge.

St Neots retrieved a two goals deficit for the first time this season but in a grandstand finish fell just short of the surprise away victory their performance had deserved. Having led early on they shipped in three goals but pulled one back on the stroke of half time. They then almost totally dominated the second period registering seven shots on goal with visiting keeper James Goff relegated to the role of a spectator, but they could only manage one further goal and had to return home with just the one point.

‘It was an outstanding performance’ commented Manager Cameron Mawer ‘that deserved a rare away victory, but credit to the home side that defended so well’. Full back Riley Barratt broke down in the warm-up and had to be replaced by Marcus Gouldbourne whilst the only other team change was the return of central defender Charlie Bowen with Harvey Henderson left on the bench. However, he was to have an influence on the result when introduced as an early substitute.

The match got off to an electric start when St Neots opened the scoring in their first attack as the lively Kwadwo Bugyei-Kyei ploughed his way through the home defence to beat the keeper from close range. If Mickleover were shocked by this reversal it did not show because eight minutes later, they were back on terms when visiting defender Charlie Bowen could only turn a Paddy Webb cross past his own keeper for the early equalising goal. Mickleover then dominated the rest of the first half adding a second goal through Cieron Keane after sixteen minutes, and a third three minutes before the break, through Paddy Webb to put themselves in a commanding position. Then in time added at the end of the first half Harvey Williams gave the visitors a lifeline with a close-range finish to a cross from Bugyei-Kyei.

The visitors, inspired by Bugyei-Kyei took the match to the home side with an inspired attacking second half display that marooned Mickleover in their own half for much of the second period. However, the home defence held firm and the visiting side failed to capitalise on their superior possession.

MATCH REPORT Mickleover FC (A) 07 Mar 2026 The lively Williams robbed a dithering defender but shot wide, and then Rhys Thorpe set up MJ Muyembe, and his shot rattled the crossbar before being cleared by a defender. Mickleover needed inspiration so they introduced four substitutes in a five minutes period midway through the second half but that had little effect on the pattern of play. Tantalising the defence Williams set up Muyembe, but his finish was off target and then Bugyei-Kyei brought an important save from under pressure home custodian Jack McDowell. An audacious free kick from inside his own half by visiting keeper James Goff was retrieved by the back peddling McDowell and with ten minutes left the keeper produced a brave save at the feet of Thorpe who had gone clear of the defence. With seven minutes left St Neots did get some reward for their efforts when Harvey Henderson converted a long throw from Lewis Burgess, but it only earned a single point when all three looked to be going back to Cambridgeshire.

For only the second time this season St Neots named an unchanged starting line-up and went very close to recording what would have been their second away victory of the season. They deservedly led 2-0 at the break after a confident first half performance but with two changes made in their attack Kettering roared back and it was an injury to skipper Tom Ward after 50 minutes that proved crucial to the result.

He picked up a first half knock but took to the field after the break but lasted only five minutes before being replaced by Tom Wood. He fitted in well but the lack of Ward’s aerial power was exploited by the home side as they pounded the St Neots defence. The home substitutions were also to prove significant with one of their subs scoring their first goal and the other setting up the equalizer.The point took St Neots further away from the foot of the table but with Cirencester winning at Cinderford, St Neots dropped a place to 22nd in the table. The overall performance should have been good enough to boost confidence before Saturday’s visit to the Premier Plus Stadium of second in the table Leamington – one of the promotion favorites. This was the third meeting of the two teams in just five weeks with each having won at St Neots – the home team in the League Cup and the visitors in the league.

The swirling wind was a factor in the early rather uneventful stages of the match with both sides struggling to master the difficult conditions. The home side adopted an attacking formation with three in attack but St Neots were threatening on the break with Jonny Hall firing wide and brother James seeing a low finish comfortably gathered by Dean Snedker. At the other end Alex Archer saved well from James Brighton and Spencer Weir-Daley got the ball in the net but was ruled offside. The break-through came after 21 minutes when Tom Spark lifted a long ball over the defence to find James Hall wide left and he went past the final defender to send a curling shot over the keeper and under the bar at the far post. Now St Neots seemed to grow in confidence and Micky Hyem had a shot deflected for a corner and an audacious chip by Jonny Hall was saved by the back peddling Snedker. Kettering created little in reply although Weir-Daley who had scored a hat trick in the win at St Neots flashed a shot inches wide of a post. A minute before the break St Neots doubled their lead to the delight of the travelling fans when a Declan Rogers free kick was won firmly in the air by Taylor Parr and his knock down was smashed into the net

by Sam Mulready to record his fourth goal in as many games.

BLAST FROM THE PAST 18th Oct 2016 - KETTERING TOWN (A) The introduction of substitutes Aaron O’Connor and Liam Canavan after half time clearly indicated Kettering’s intention to strike back. James Hall did register the first goal attempt of the second half but his effort was too high just prior to the St Neots enforced substitution. Then for a spell the home side dominated. Rene Howe headed over the bar from a Brighton corner and after 58 minutes the home side were back in the match as Aaron O’Connor’s pace was too much for the retreating St Neots defence and he beat Archer with a low finish. Two minutes later the same player was played clear by Canavan but Archer showed great anticipation to block with his legs. A freak deflection off Peter Clark forced Snedker into a fine save pushing the ball over for a corner and then Archer again was the saviour of his side with a one-handed save to deny Weir-Daley. However, fifteen minutes from time Jonny Hall mistimed a through ball from Canavan allowing Wilson Carvalho a clear run at goal and he levelled the scores. In the closing stages Hyem had a volley saved and both Carvalho and O’Connor fired over the bar with Kettering’s final chances.

ANDYSMANCLUB is a free peer-to-peer group that provides a place for men to come together in a safe and open environment to talk about the issues or problems that they have faced or are currently facing.

ANDYSMANCLUB meet every Monday at 7pm (excluding Bank Holiday Mondays).

HOW DOES IT WORK? The process is about bringing men together who have been in similar situations, to help each other on a peer to peer basis, sharing how they have dealt with various situations through lived experiences. No matter how big or small your problem feels, we are here to support each other. The 5 questions that are asked each week are designed not only to encourage men to talk, but to start to focus on the positives and on strategies to keep moving forward. There is no pressure to answer any of the questions and it is not uncommon for men to just listen for the first few sessions. The clubs all run on the same format and adhere to the same guidelines. A key principle of ANDYSMANCLUB is anything that is said in the club, stayswithinthe club.

Seasons Past - With John Walker This Edition Focuses on Season 2000/01

This is another in the second series of historical records, highlighting this time another season at our Rowley Park stadium depicting both the highs and the lows in the recent proud history of the Club. It was the start of the New Millennium and the team celebrated with a glut of goals. The senior team scored 97 in just 40 matches (plus 31 in 13 cup matches) – the best in any Step Five season for around 40 years prior to our promotion year to Step Four in the 2010/11 season. This was because we had three strikers, Vince Petty, Paul Carey and Wes Byrne all of whom finished with more than twenty goals apiece – 97 being the second- best tally in the UCL Premier Division that season despite the team finishing fifth in the table eleven points off top spot. Locally we completed a league double over Eynesbury Rovers for the first time for 23 years, and Rovers were relegated from the Premier Division after a stay of 24 seasons!

Our exciting 7-5 home victory over Northampton Spencer was the biggest goals tally in a UCL match that season and we followed it up with an 8-1 victory over Long Buckby.

The team recorded its best league defensive record at Step Five (just nine league defeats in 40 matches) since the 1976/77 – 24 years previously.

We failed to win a trophy after losing to Somersham at Warboys in the Huntingdonshire Senior Cup Final, but several of our first team players including Vince Petty and Iain Parr picked up Scott Gatty Cup winners medals with St Neots RAFA Club.

Opponent Spotlight LOUGHBOROUGH STUDENTS FC

Loughborough Students Football Club was established in 1919-20, under the name of Loughborough Technical Institute and guidance of Principal Herbert Schofield.

The football side won its first silverware on record in the Northern Junior Cup in 1922. In 1966 Loughborough became a University and also competed in the Leicestershire Senior League Division Two until 1972. In the 1970s three more University titles were added by Head Coach and former student and then lecturer, Mike Holliday. Early signs of Mike’s rein included an away victory over a Manchester United XI. The side waited 35 years for a return to non-league football, entering the Midland Combination in 2007-08. After silverware in their first season in the shape of the Midlands League Cup, in 2009 Loughborough won promotion as champions to the Midland Football Alliance. Head Coach Tom Curtis left in 2011 to take over as National Team Coach of Antigua & Barbuda.

2011/12 Stuart McLaren’s first term ended with a 5th place finish in the Midland Football Alliance and victory in the League Cup. The League Cup was retained in 2012/13 as the side equalled their highest ever league position in the MFA of 4th.

In May 2012 the Loughborough University Stadium was opened with a showcase game against a Spurs Academy team.

In 2014 Loughborough University joined the Midland Football League in its inaugural year. December saw Stuart McLaren depart to take up the post of Manager at Stirling Albion, subsequently moving to Celtic FC Academy.

In Jan 2017/18 Richard Allen was appointed as Director of Football. Richard joined from the FA where he was head of Talent ID and formerly Head of Academy at QPR and Head of Recruitment at Tottenham. In the 2018/19 season former student Alex Ackerley was appointed Head Coach, the season ended in a County Cup Final appearance against Coalville Town (Step 3), where the Ravens won 4 – 1 at Holmes Park.

The 2019/20 season saw the Scholars celebrate their Centenary in the Uhlsport United Counties Football League. The scholars were sitting in 4th place in midMarch when the 19/20 season was deemed null and void due to the Coronavirus pandemic, which impacted the 20/21 season.

Opponent Spotlight LOUGHBOROUGH STUDENTS FC

The 2021/22 season saw the club readopt the Loughborough Students FC name across all teams, with U21s continuing in MFL U21s East. A new chapter for the Scholars started with experienced, former professional player and pro-licence coach, Jamie Clapham arriving as the new Head Coach. The season also brought esteemed success for Loughborough Students FC with a 4th place finish in the United Counties League as well as a record-breaking cup run in the Buildbase FA Vase, reaching the semi-final, before exiting the competition after defeat to Littlehampton Town FC away from home.

The 2023/24 season saw us make club history as we won Step 5 Play Offs and were promoted to Step 4, the highest level of football the team has competed at in its history. It also saw us reach the County Cup final against Anstey Nomads, but falling short to prevent a trophy filled season.

The 2024/25 campaign saw the team at Step 4 for the first time. Head Coach Jamie Clapham set out goals for the season to remain in the league and be competitive.

The season started off with Mixed Results, with 6 points taken from the first 4 games. However as the season progressed points were harder to come by.

However, a six game unbeaten run played a major part in keeping the scholars around the mid-table mark. The season ended with us in 15th, keeping us at Step 4 for another season. We also progressed to another County Cup final, with a stand out point being beating League Winners Quorn in the semi-final at their home ground. We faced Anstey Nomads for the second consecutive year in the final, but again the Nomads took the victory.

Player Profiles LOUGHBOROUGH STUDENTS

Steven Bessent (Goalkeeper): Steven joined the Scholars in the 2023-24 season, featuring for the successful Development squad winning 4 trophies in 2023-24. Steven joined from Newcastle United Academy.

Will Dean (Goalkeeper): As the youngest player in the squad, Will is an exciting prospect for the scholars. Will has dual registered with LSFC alongside Melbourne Town FC this season. He is taking a jump up from step 7 football to play at LSFC this year.

Leo Webster (Goalkeeper): The goalkeeper joins the squad in the 25/26 season after previously playing for Winchester City.

Nat Salsby (Defender): Nat joined the club in the 24/25 season after finishing at Repton School, Nat has played for Repton School in the ISFA HUDL League and England ISFA Team.

William Earley (Defender): On a Work Experience loan from Burton Will is a physical CB with capability to drive into midfield and break lines.

Alex Spiteri (Defender): Alex goes into his third full season with Loughborough Students after an impressive first couple of seasons. The full back has represented Malta at age group level.

Max Prickett-Reed (Defender): Max joined the club for the 2024-25 season after previous spells with Bugbrooke ST Michaels and ON Chenecks.

Ben Royall (Defender): Ben has broken into the scholar's team after a successful campaign with Loughborough Students Development side winning the league and the county cup in 24/25.

Jonty Bouch (Defender/Midfielder): Former Mansfield and Nottingham Forest player. Has risen through the teams after a successful first season with LSFC Development team back in the 2022-23 Season.

Player Profiles LOUGHBOROUGH STUDENTS

Josh Roddy (Midfielder): Last season Josh was playing for Hartpury College and joins the scholars for his first season. Josh has experience in Bristol Rover’s and Reading’s academies and is an energetic spark to add to the squad.

Sam Fielding (Midfielder): The former Deeping Rangers U18 player moved to the scholars last season, cementing a place in the starting line-up. This season is Sam’s second season as club Marcus Gilpin: (Midfielder): The midfielder joins Loughborough for the 2024/25 season after moving from Bradfield College. Marcus represented Bradfield in the ISFA HUDL League.

Max McCoy (Midfielder): Max progressed into the first team last season after a successful season with the development squad the season before that in the Leicester Senior League.

Aden Brazil (Midfielder): Aden arrived in Loughborough in 2022. Starting the season in the development team, he has worked his way up and has recently become a key member of the first team squad.

Henry Russ (Midfielder): Having broken into the first team last season the exAFC Wimbledon academy player is impressing in the centre of the pitch for the scholars.

Hussein Issa (Forward): This is Hussein’s second season in the squad. Joining Loughborough in the 23/24 season, he has progressed from the development squad. He played for Potters Bar prior to his arrival.

Connor Keene (Forward): Connor played in the 23/24 season when the scholars were promoted into step 4 and has now returned to the scholars after a year playing in London.

Ashden Shortland (Forward): Ashden has started the 25/26 season with two goals in the FA cup and looks to keep adding to this tally for the scholars.

Tobenna Ikegwuonu (Forward): This is Tobenna’s first season with the scholars where he looks to contribute to the side coming up through Loughborough Students Development side.
