Obviously disappointing to have last Saturday’s home game versus Shepshed Dynamo called off due to a frozen pitch and Tuesday’s twice rearranged game at Anstey Nomads being rescheduled yet again due their fantastic FA Trophy run but hopefully the lads come into today’s clash with the league leaders nice and fresh and raring to go.

Don’t forget that our next game here at The Premier Plus Stadium on Tuesday 20th January is a tasty local derby when we entertain EYNESBURY ROVERS in the Semi Finals of the Huntingdonshire Football Association Senior Challenge Cup. This game will kick off at 7.45pm so spread the word and let’s get a decent support for the lads as we look to retain the trophy that we won against Step 3 opponents St ives Town back in April.

Away from the pitch we have a fantastic night of entertainment lined up on Friday 29th January when Ex Arsenal and England Striker and current Sky pundit Alan Smith will be sharing stories as part of an evening to raise funds for Ex Academy player Angelo and his family to help with his rehabilitation after suffering brain damage, the result of a seizure and spending time in a coma in hospital. There will be two great comedians, an awesome MC and a fund raising auction on the night as well as the brilliant CHAII HUB selling their delicious foods too so if you can come along, your £20 will be going to a great cause. We face a very strong challenge this afternoon. Carlton come into the game sitting top of the table, eleven points clear with a game in hand and that tells you everything about the consistency and quality they have shown throughout the season. They are well organised, difficult to break down and very effective in both boxes — which is why they are where they are. For us, it’s been a little different in recent weeks, with a longer gap between games than we would ideally want.

At this stage of the season that can be challenging, because as a group you just want to be playing, competing, and trying to put points on the board. That makes it even more important that we use that time properly — keeping the players fit, sharp and mentally ready so that when the next game comes, we’re prepared to perform.

Alongside that, we are continuing to build a culture within this group — one based on hard work, honesty, togetherness, and resilience. We understand how demanding this league is, and we know that right now we are in a relegation battle. That’s the reality of where we are. But we also feel that we are steadily improving, learning with each game, and growing as a group. The challenge is to keep that progress going, to stay united, and to keep fighting for every point between now and the end of the season.

Carlton have been front runners to this league from the early stages and have made themselves a Healthy advantage over their nearest rivals and will be a very strong contender for promotion this season and tough opponents today. On our visit earlier this season Saints gave a good account of themselves but only to thwarted by some excellent finishing by the home side gave them a close victory on the day.

Over the Christmas and new year period Cameron and the squad have regained their form and confidence showing some Spirted performances and gaining important and Valuable points to slowly fight our away from the bottom half of the Standings. With this upturn in confidence and determination to push onwards and upward and show we have the potential to achieve our goal and push for success and stability in this competitive and demanding league.

GOOD AFTERNOON AND A WELCOME TO THE PREMIER PLUS STADIUM TO CARLTON TOWN FOR THEIR FIRST VISIT TO ST NEOTS However, our two teams are not strangers because we met in Nottinghamshire four months ago in a closely fought league match where our hosts were the winners by the odd goal in three. Since then, they have lost just one league match at home to Coleshill Town on 8th November. Their consistency has seen them run up a lead at the top of the table of eleven points with a game in hand of the three clubs beneath them. It would therefore be reasonable to label Carlton as promotion favourites if not play-off certainties with at present a seventeen points advantage over the chasing pack. Last season they finished 7th in the NPL East Division just two places shy of the play-offs before their transfer to the Midland Division. Our two sides also met six seasons ago at Carlton in the FA Trophy when defender Sam Goode claimed our consolation goal in a 3-1defeat (match report elsewhere in this programme).

In the FA Cup this season Carlton began with a convincing 3-0 home victory over Cleethorpes Town before losing their next match on the road at Matlock Town. They have twice recently reached the third qualifying round of this competition. In the FA Trophy they also started well with a shoot out victory at Long Eaton after a 2-2 draw. However, in the next round away at Shifnal they were beaten by the odd goal in three.

CLUB WELFARE OFFICER GEMMA KEECH My name is Gemma Keech and I am the Club Welfare Officer (CWO) for St Neots Town Football Club.

Each football club that offers youth and open aged football is required to have a Club Welfare Officer. I am responsible for ensuring the wellbeing of the children, young people and vulnerable adults who attend the club, whether that be within the Academy or players aged Under 18 in the First Team.

My role is to be the first point of contact for all club members and parents / carers regarding concerns for the welfare of anyone within the club that fall within this group.

St Neots Town Football Club have appointed me to this voluntary role because of my employment roles in Education and Children’s Social Care, and therefore my knowledge and experience in Safeguarding and Child Protection.

My aim to be an approachable person for young people and their parents or carers, as well as club members, where issues or concerns may arise. These issues may range from worries about not fitting in or feeling left out, an individual dangerous incident or situation, other adult or young persons’ behaviour or more serious allegations against another person, volunteer, member or professional at the Club.

MATCH REPORT Bedworth United (H) 26 December 2025 Pitching In Northern Premier League Midland Division ST NEOTS TOWN

St Neots Town recorded their first Boxing Day win since defeating Cambridge City back in 2022, beating bottom of the table Bedworth United by a single goal in front of a bumper crowd of 510 at the Premier Plus Stadium. The visitors arrived after having won four of their last six matches so their lowly position in the league standings shouldn’t be taken likely. Manager Cameron Mawer stuck with the same starting eleven that had secured a magnificent win at Belper Town in their previous outing and new signing Claudio Dias had to settle for a place on the bench and Stacey Freeman (Unavailable) and Michael Amaeshike Injured remained the only other notable absentees.

The game started at a frantic pace and the opening goal almost came inside the first two minutes when a long throw from Burgess was headed onto his own post by a visiting defender and cleared to safety. The visitors could themselves have taken the lead in the eleventh minute when Boothe forced Goff into a smart save, acrobatically tipping his header over the bar for a corner which, thankfully, came to nothing. In the thirty-fourth minutes, Reece Thorpe almost caught the visiting keeper out with a clever near post cross from the left and just as it appeared that the ball was going to sneak in, the keeper readjusted his feet and managed to divert the goal-bound effort around the post for a corner and then in the fifth minute of time added on (due to a lengthy stoppage for Sammy Willis to receive treatment after an aerial challenge) Neo Richard-Noel shot over the bar when well placed and that was the end of the first half’s action.

The second half began with no changes in personnel for either side and the next noteable chance was in the sixty-first minute when a tiring Neo RichardNoel struck the cross bar but the Assistant Referee had his flag raised for offside. This was to be his last involvement of the game as substitute James Stainsby was introduced into the action in the sixty-fifth minute.

The all important winning goal was to arrive after seventy-one minutes and it was a set piece executed perfectly. Lewis Burgess propelled one of his trademark long throws into the opposition penalty area and Harvey Henderson flicked the ball on for the in-rushing SAMMY WILLIS to power home an unstoppable header of his own to give his team a deserved lead, much to the delight of the home support.

MATCH REPORT Bedworth United (H) 26 December 2025 In the seventy-sixth minute the visitors thought they had won themselves a penalty however the referee proceeded to show Barry a yellow card for assimilation much to the amusement of the home support in that corner of the ground. The lively Kieran Barnes was unlucky not to extend the lead nine minutes from time when a sweetly struck free kick from outside the the right hand corner of the penalty box forced Highland into an impressive save, diverting the ball from it’s trajectory into the top right hand corner and away for a corner and the Saints came even closer in the first minute of stoppage time when substitute MJ Muyembe somehow managed to escape his marker and got his shot away from a tight angle but it hit the foot of the post and was cleared to safety.

So, a hard fought, well deserved victory for the Saints. Seven points out of nine from their three holiday matches (two of which were away from home) represented an excellent haul over the Christmas/New Year period and leaves St Neots in good heart for their upcoming busy January period with six further league and cup matches, four of which are at home.

Hosts Wellingborough were brimming with confidence after five consecutive victories, but the visitors were showing some real grit and determination as they came from behind to earn a deserved point. Having defeated the Doughboys at St Neots back in September, Cameron Mawer’s side were looking for their first league double of the season, but they found their hosts in confident mood. Ironically St Neots key man was former Wellingborough striker Neo Richard-Noel who had scored against the Saints on their last visit to the ground in November 2023. His second half strike earned a share of the points against his former club. St Neots made just one team change for the trip to Northamptonshire bringing in recent signing Stacey Freeman at the heart of their defence in a reshuffled line-up that saw Kieran Barnes start on the substitutes bench.

The first quarter of an hour was evenly fought with both defences looking comfortably in control, but the breakthrough came when the home side won a corner, and when under-pressure St Neots goalkeeper James Goff failed to get any distance on his punch clear the ball fell to Will Jones who netted from close range. St Neots hit back quickly and a Harvey Williams shot was comfortably gathered by the home keeper. Wellingborough then had a spell of possession with Connor Tomlinson blazing over the bar, Jones seeing a second close range effort well saved by Goff and Lloyd Buckby volleying over the bar after neat play by Danny Draper. Lewis Burgess then joined the St Neots attack to test home keeper Dean Snedker, and Williams cut in to see his effort blocked by a defender. Goff made up for his earlier error producing a full length save to deny Tomlinson and then the home side were forced to make the first change just before the break when their scorer Jones went off injured.

Shortly after the restart St Neots adopted a more positive approach taking off full back Eniola Agemoh-Davies and sending on Kieran Barnes as an addition midfield attacking player. That seemed to pay dividends with St Neots on the offensive, and they began to test the home defence.

MATCH REPORT Wellingborough Town (A) 01 January 2026 After 26 minutes of the second half the scores were levelled as Neo RichardNoel latched on to a lengthy Goff clearance to outwit his marker to level the scores against his former club. The home side responded by introducing an additional midfield attacking player, but the visiting defence held firm and then a late foul tackle bringing down Williams as he bore down on goal preserved Wellingborough’s point earning the perpetrator a deserved caution.

St Neots deserved their point and cemented their position eight points and six places above the bottom of the table.

With just three minutes of normal time left and St Neots pushing hard for an equalizer that their second half performance had deserved with the potential reward of a replay, the outcome of this match was decided. The home side broke away for a rare late attack and with St Neots caught short at the back, substitute Mason Rhiney tripped Mommoke Akaunu in the area and home skipper Tom Maddison despatched the spot kick to put St Neots late hopes beyond reach. At half time trailing by a single goal to nil, St Neots looked lucky to be still in contention because they had been lacklustre and short of ideas in that first 45 minutes. However, they responded well, and had they shown the newly discovered second half industry and commitment before the break the outcome of the match could have been very different. Carlton are currently leading the BetVictor Northern League (South East Division) with only a single league defeat so far in nine fixtures but they made surprisingly little progress against a visiting side that did not produce a single shot on goal in the first twentyfive minutes. The visitors made two team changes preferring Panny Boxer to Joe Walker in defence and reinstating Tim N’Kala in midfield for Sam Gomersal who was unavailable. The one positive in defeat was the return to action as a substitute of former team skipper Ben Bradley who lengthy rehabilitation from injury had seen him last in action on 27th April, and his half hour on the pitch suggested that he will push for a permanent place in the starting line-up.

In attacking terms, it was all Carlton in the opening 25 minutes. At times St Neots struggled to get the ball out of their own half as Aaron Opoku shot straight at James Philp when clear, and the lively Oliver Clark had two shots blocked. From a Niall Davie cross, Opoku headed tamely over the bar and then Tyler Blake brought a good save from Philp. St Neots first shot arrived after 26 minutes from Price Mutswunguma but sadly it was too high, but St Neots were beginning to look competitive but lacked significant finish. Seven minutes before the break, from a set piece Davie free kick Oliver Clark rose unchallenged at the far post to head firmly into the net to open the scoring and although St Neots tried to respond they made little progress.

BLAST FROM THE PAST 28th Sept 2019 - Carlton Town (A) The second half saw a different pattern to the play right from the first whistle. St Neots adopted a more attacking approach and in the first minute skipper Lee Watkins shot narrowly wide. However, it was self-destruct time for St Neots just three minutes later when with a repeat of his first half goal Oliver Clark produced another towering header – this time from a Davie corner – and St Neots found themselves chasing the game two goals in arrears. To their credit they responded well with some deft changes to their line-up that saw Ben Bradley and Mason Rhiney on for Sam Bennett and Alfie Connor. They were almost gifted a goal when the hugely underemployed home goalkeeper Jack Steggles fluffed a clearance, but he was relieved when the ball ricocheted off Tim N’Kala for a goal kick. Prince had a shot blocked and Joe Sutton shot wide as St Neots applied pressure on the home defence, but Carlton still looked threatening on the break with Philp doing well to save from Opoku with his legs as he spread himself. Then after 71 minutes it was game on as from a Lee Watkins corner central defender Sam Goode claimed his third goal of the season scrambling the ball in from close range. Watkins shot wide and then provided the corner for Panny Boxer to heads narrowly over the crossbar and to show St Neots’ dominance the home side were openly wasting time to preserve their lead. It was therefore against the run of play when three minutes from time Carlton broke swiftly from defence for substitute Akaunu to tumble in the area from a mistimed Mason Rhiney challenge and the successful Maddison spot kick earned his side their place in the next round.

There is no pressure to answer any of the questions and it is not uncommon for men to just listen for the first few sessions. The clubs all run on the same format and adhere to the same guidelines. Seasons Past - With John Walker This Edition Focuses on Season 1977/78

ST NEOTS TOWN FC 1987/88 SEASON This is the fifteenth in a series, highlighting what was to be our final season at Shortsands depicting both the highs and the lows in the recent proud history of the Club. This was not to be our most memorable season in terms of our league performance, but Manager Tony Holden was under immense pressure and a very restricted budget.However, fate was to deliver a brilliant finale to our almost ninety years at the ground which had seen our eviction midway through the season. After struggling to complete our league programme on a makeshift ground at Samuel Jones in Little Paxton we returned to the town and Eynesbury Rovers ground for the Hinchingbrooke Cup Final. Our opponents were Langford who were doing well in the South Midlands League and after a keenly fought match a late goal from Steve Kester clinched the trophy for the eighth time – a competition joint record. At the end of the season Club Chairman John Delaney revealed that the club were in consultation with the Council seeking planning permission for a strip of land at Loves Farm on the outskirts of the town – a development that was to be completed six seasons later.

Our league form was disappointing but with three points for a win our points tally looked almost respectable.

Fifteen goals in 18 away league matches underlined our lack of scoring power and a record 8-1 home defeat by Long Buckby was the low point of the season.

Our Hinchingbrooke Cup Final victory came after defeating hot favourites Irthlingborough Diamonds in an away replay after a home 0-0 draw.

Our extremely youthful Reserve side finished seventeenth out of 20 in the top Reserve Division under Manager Barry Cavilla and lost to Eynesbury reserves in the Scott Gatty Cup. The top goal scorer was Val Simpson with 9 goals followed by Warren Brown and Steve Kester – 8 each. However. worth a mention was our three hat tricks – Warren Brown (first team) at Kempston and Kevin Anderson and Carden Smith – (reserves) both at home to Bourne Town. Finally mention for Kevin – a total of 16 goals for the Reserves and one for the senior side away in that Hinchingbrooke Cup semi-final at Irthlingborough.

Opponent Spotlight CARLTON TOWN

The Club was founded in 1904 under the name of Sneinton FC and for much of the 20th century played its football in the Nottinghamshire Football Alliance. Sneinton won the league in 1905-06 and picked up three titles in succession between 1907-08 and 1909-10. The League was strong enough in the early part of the century to enter clubs into the qualifying rounds of the FA Cup and Sneinton competed for 20 successive seasons between 1907-08 and 1930-31 albeit never progressing beyond the first round qualifying. It would be 73 years before they entered the Cup again.

Indeed, the club had to wait some time for further success, winning the Second Division title (third tier) in 1984-85 and the First Division title (second tier) in 1992-93.

The club had led somewhat of a nomadic existence, playing at various grounds, and only settled at its current location of Stoke Lane, Gedling, in the early 1990s. The club joined the Central Midlands Football League in 1995 and at the start of the 199697 campaign chairman Bill Stokeld appointed former players Tommy Brookbanks and Neil Cooper as managers at Sneinton and there began a period of outstanding success. Brookbanks led the club brilliantly for 14 years from 1996 – 2010 with the club gaining four promotions under his stewardship. The first of those was from the Premier Division to the Supreme Division of the CML in 2000 and three years later they were promoted again, into the Northern Counties East League First Division. By then, the club had changed its name to Carlton Town following the arrival, in 2002, of chairman of Mick Garton of local company MSR Newsgroup.

On 23 October 2004 club President and legend Bill Stokeld passed away watching the Millers. Bill had been involved with the Club for over 50 years and it is fitting that his name lives on through the name of the stadium itself. Carlton won the NCEL First Division in 2005-06 and 12 months later earned a second successive promotion, this time to the NPL First Division South. Carlton have remained at step 4 ever since.

Carlton’s first season at this level saw them finish a creditable 10th, and in 2008-09 they finished fourth and made the play-offs, where future England international Jamie Vardy was amongst the scorers as Stocksbridge Park Steels won 5-2 in South Yorkshire. Another top half finish followed in 2009-10 before Brookbanks decided to move on to Premier Division Hucknall Town.

New manager Les McJannet recruited a whole new squad and his side finished eighth and made it to the final of the Notts Senior Cup for the first time before being well beaten by Conference North Eastwood Town. The next three seasons brought even more success. 2011-12 saw the Millers finish second in the table, their highest pyramid finish to date, score 101 league goals and only go out of the play-offs after a penalty shoot-out defeat against Leek Town.

The league form dipped in 2012-13 but McJannet brought silverware to the Club in the form of a first ever Notts Senior Cup success, beating his former club Sutton Town 5-2 in the final. The Millers finished tenth in 2013-14 and retained the Notts Senior Cup in some style, beating Rainworth MW 6-2 in the final.

Opponent Spotlight CARLTON TOWN

If the first half of the decade had been characterised by success after success, the following five years was seemingly one long struggle against relegation in front of ever-decreasing crowds with just the one tremendous highlight in the middle. In 2014-15 the Millers opened with three defeats and never really recovered, eventually finishing in 18th position. At the end of the campaign McJannet decided to call it a day. He was replaced by his assistant Wayne Scott.

Scott’s first two seasons saw 18th and 19th placed finishes in the league but Scott’s second season at the helm ended in spectacular style with the manager leading the club to its third win in the Notts Senior Cup, beating local rivals Basford Utd 4-1 at Notts County’s Meadow Lane.

2017-18 saw another 19th placed finish, albeit Carlton did have to play their final 12 games in just 24 days. The following year saw Carlton play in the newly-reorganised NPL First Division East which included some mammoth away journeys but contained just 20 teams, down from the previous 22. Carlton struggled and once again finished 19th which should have meant relegation but the Millers were granted a reprieve after AFC Mansfield were relegated instead for ground-grading issues. At the end of the campaign Carlton parted company with Scott and Brookbanks returned as manager, jointly with his ex-Coalville sidekick Mark Harvey.

The change was instant and Carlton hit the ground running in 2019-20 with four straight wins in the reorganised NPL South-East. They spent a month at the top of the table in the Autumn and were in fifth place in the table when the season was brought to its abrupt end due to Covid. The Millers only managed to play nine league games of the truncated 2020-21 season before it too was brought to an early end due to the virus.

The summer of 2021 saw the expansion of step 4 which led to Carlton being placed into the newly-formed NPL Midlands division. 2021-22 was a fine season with the Millers finishing sixth, the best finish in 10 years. The Millers also won through to the first round proper of the FA Trophy for the first time and picked up their fourth Notts Senior Cup title with a 1-0 win against Mansfield Town U23. The semi-final win against Nottingham Forest U23 was played in front of a club-record home crowd of 733.

The club was moved to the First Division East for the 2022-23 season with a huge increase in travel. The Millers struggled throughout the season, and found themselves 10 points adrift of safety with just 10 games remaining. But the resigning of former captain Alex Troke was the catalyst to four successive away wins and 19 points from those final 10 games as Carlton finished in 17th position. The club did make it to the Notts Senior Cup final again but were beaten 3-2 by Newark & Sherwood Utd.

Opponent Spotlight CARLTON TOWN

Brookbanks and Harvey brought in a number of young players during the summer of 2023 and the change in performance was immediate as Carlton opened the season with three straight wins, were in and around the playoffs for the whole campaign and finished fifth and qualified for the playoffs for only the third time in their history. The club went down 2-0 in the semi-final at eventual play-off winners Stockton Town, played in front of 1637, the biggest crowd ever to watch a Carlton match.

2024-25 saw the Millers finish just short of the playoffs with an eventual seventh place finish in the league. The season did include a club-record equalling 15 game unbeaten run but also saw Club President Roger Smith pass away. At the end of the campaign joint manager Tommy Brookbanks announced his retirement and he will be replaced by assistant manager Andy Clerke who will join Mark Harvey as joint manager. The Millers have been transferred back to the NPL Midlands for the 202526 season and hopes are high for another tilt at promotion
