In this edition, we extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and supporters of Edgware and Kingsbury Football Club and we hope you enjoy our hospitality this afternoon“.

The highs and lows of non league football. Last Saturday we were at the polar opposite end of the scale of emotions from seven days prior when we dispatched higher grade Real Bedford from this season’s competition.

Rugby Borough were the visitors and went home with the three points after an unusual collective poor performance from everyone gifted the visitors the points which moved them to top spot in the division with only one of two unbleamished records still intact. A strange afternoon which, prior to kick off, didn’t have the normal buzz of anticipation around the place and a rather smaller attendance than what we were expecting present during the game didn’t help to lift the mood however on tuesday evening we certainly put things right with a devastating dispay of attacking play and finishing when we travelled to near neighbours Godmanchester Rovers, finding ourselves three goals to the good inside the first sixteen minutes. We of course, eventually won 4-0 with goals from Connor, Sammy, Rhys and Kieran. Also, this fixture saw new signing from Newport Pagnell Town, Dan Walker make his debut, so please join us in welcoming Walks to the Saints Family. It’s been great to see so many supporters buy replica playing shirts so far this new season and to see so many at Goddy on Tuesday was so good. Don’t forget that they are on sale along with the bespoke warm up tops at the 50/50 hut with Shelley and Lily.

Back to today and lets hope that the magic of the cup is still alive and kicking come full time. A tough game in store but with you guys playing your part on the sidelines , the twelfth man could be the difference As always, get behind the lads from the first whistle.

My previous association with Hendon saw us share a 4G pitch with Edgware and the management team and manager Rak are brilliant and work tirelessly to get the best out of their side. I know just what a good team they will be”.

They beat step 3 Hendon in preseason and although had a difficult result on Tuesday night, I am under no illusion just how hard a game it will be, especially being the FA Cup. The reward of winning and potentially going against a step 3 side in the next round and also the financial gain is something that every club will be fighting for.

It’s been a up and down last 7 days, I understand with the second half performance everyone went away deflated from Saturdays defeat to Rugby Borough. The first half we were in total control and created a bag lot of chances. To lose 3-0 was a tough pill to swallow and I certainly had some difficult hours and days following. For me it was understanding why it happened and making sure we don’t have too many days like that because ultimately the only thing that matters is the score line and 3 points.

I’d like to use this chance to welcome Dan Walker to the football club from Newport Pagnell.

Dan is someone I’ve admired for a long time and I’ve been monitoring his situation, his signing was not a reaction to the defeat as we had already put the 7 dayer in 2 weeks ago to be able to talk to him. We were waiting for the right opportunity to bring him on board, when players of Dan’s quality come available it’s a no brainer and I know it would give us a boast going forward.

Tuesday night was a similar performance to Saturday but the only difference was just how ruthless we were. Remembering

they beat us 3-0 last season in the cup and 2 weeks prior they beat a play off team in March Town 3-1, so they are by no means a walk over. Our performance was one of professional and ruthlessness, some of the football was a joy and I was delighted we managed to claim our first clean sheet of the season.

What a an exciting day in store FA Cup fever is one of hope and excitement and I know you will get behind the boys today and be the 12th player and hopefully help us get over the line and progress into the next round.

I would like to welcome all the players ,officals and supporters of Edgware & Kingsbury FC to the home of the Saints . Little is know about our visitors today who play in the combined Counties Premier Division North. However it’s to early in the season to judge teams and I am certain Cameron and his team will have some valuable information about our vistors today and I am sure this will be another good competitive Cup tie.

Hopefully the Saints can follow up on their first few fine performances and give a good account of themselves and push hard to be in the Hat for the next round.

Last week the Saints played very well first hour and then Rugby did a smash and grab in just a few minutes and saints looked a bit shell shocked in conceding 2 quick goals and never recovered there composure to get back in to the game unfortunately.

I am certain for Cameron and the lads that this will be an early wake up call that when we are in control and creating to make it count and find way to manage the games out .

Tuesday saw us travel the short journey to our local rivals Godmanchester Rovers in our 3 rd league game of this season and the Saints put in a great performance on a challenging hard surface and secured a well deserved victory and 3 valuable points .

I would also like to take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience caused recently regarding cash only transactions at the club ,as we have had major issues with our Internet services and WiFi connection, and we are working closely with providers to sort this problem as soon as possible .

This was St Neots’ poorest team performance of the season so far and yet they were in no real danger of going out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle. Tilbury from the lower level in the Ryman League threatened the St Neots goal very seldom but they got away with a replay because of a single shot that took an awkward bounce in front of St Neots debut goalkeeper Andrew Wilton to find the back of the net. The other team change for the visitors saw the inclusion of Gui Mailancol for his full debut in the place of Isaac Galliford who was on the bench. For the faithful fans that followed St Neots to the Essex coast it was a contest short on entertainment and rhythm and it is unlikely that the side can be quite as inept in the midweek home replay. There was little atmosphere in the sparsely populated ground and the main drama only arrived a minute before the end of normal time when the home side had a player dismissed with a straight red card for a crude challenge from behind on Ryan Hawkins who had been St Neots best player.Defensively St Neots were fairly sound with Tom Ward once again solid and dependable but they never came to terms with the swirling wind and bumpy pitch.

Losing the toss St Neots found themselves playing against the wind and up the slope and were slow to settle although Tom Meechan broke clear of the defence only to be halted by the award of a free kick against his side for an off the ball offence.Neil Richmond had Tilbury’s first attempt on goal – a shot that flew nearer to the corner flag than the goal.Meechan then only just failed to reach a Ryan Frater cross in front of a gaping net after 11 minutes and the visitors looked comfortable with Hawkins tormenting the defence and being brought down in full flight by Jimmy Cook who received a caution. Mailancol was struggling to make his presence felt wide left but he did have one shot into the side netting after 31 minutes. Less than sixty seconds later in their next attack St Neots took the lead. Again it was the tricky Hawkins who created the opening marauding down the left touchline to find Nathan Frater with a precise pass. He had his back to goal but laid the ball in the path of Connor Hall and he scored his third goal of the season with a well-placed low finish.It was no more than St Neots’ first half play had deserved and they might have had a second goal just before the break but Mailancol shot wide after good work by Mitchel-King and Meechan

Strangely St Neots failed to settle after the break and a lone effort by Mailancol was deflected for a corner as Tilbury began to look more assured. After 52 minutes full back Conor Mead joined the attack to send a speculative cross into the penalty area and Neil Richmond swivelled neatly to hit a well struck volley on the turn and the ball bounced beyond the arms of Wilton as he dived to his right. Three minutes later St Neots almost regained the lead in a smart counter attack as Hawkins played Tom Meechan clear and he skilfully rounded advancing goalkeeper Clarke Bogard only to see Mead scurry back to clear the ball off the line. St Neots were then temporarily struggling as Frater sustained an injury and after failing to recover following treatment he was replaced by Brett Longden. The visitors also reshaped their attack with Isaac Galliford on for Mailancol but the changes had little effect on a rather ponderous second half performance. Bogard did well to save at the feet of Meechan but there was little to suggest that either side would manage to obtain a place in the next round from this match. The rather unsavoury end to the match that brought the sending off seemed to sum up an unsatisfactory contest in which neither keeper had a serious save to make and both sides will look improve in the replay.

Seasons Past - With John Walker This Edition Focuses on Season 1997/98

This is the third in this season’s series historical records, highlighting this time our fourth season at our Rowley Park stadium depicting both the highs and the lows in the recent proud history of the Club. This was probably the best and most exciting season for almost two decades in Step Five of the National League system despite not achieving our bestever league finish during that period. Apart from the trophy for lifting the Step Six Division One championship and promotion in our first season back, this season saw the senior side pick-up its first Cup since our reformation and moving to our new ground – the Huntingdonshire Senior Cup, won at Somersham with a narrow 1-0 victory over Peterborough side Ortonians. In addition, on the cups front we were accepted into the FA Cup after a sixteen seasons’ absence, the Huntingdonshire Premier Cup after a one season absence and the East Anglia Cup for the first time since the 1974/75 season.

We had a memorable Boxing Day league derby at Hall Road Where a Frank Atkins goal gave us a victory by the odd goal in five – our first league victory at Hall Road since 1980!

We failed to score at home in eight of our 20 league matches.

After winning our first FA Vase match at home to Downham Town we had to travel to Aveley in Essex where we lost 4-2 after extra time.

The Reserve side finished Champions of Reserve Division Two to earn promotion on goal difference from Yaxley Reserves. Their high scoring exploits continued with 107 league goals in 30 matches – one more than the previous season.

John Walker's Match Preview Edgeware & Kingsbury FC

Year reformed: 2014 Chairman: Antony Manzi Club Website: www.eandkfc.co.uk GOOD AFTERNOON AND A VERY WARM WELCOME TO THE PREMIER PLUS STADIUM TO EDGWARE AND KINGSBURY IN THE EMIRATES FA CUP Although the current club was reformed in 2014, the original Edgware FC club was founded in 1939 by a group of football enthusiasts who worked for the construction and engineering firm, William Moss & Sons based in Cricklewood. The firm had taken over the sports ground located in the High Street, formerly used by Edgware Rugby Club. The club initially played in the West Middlesex Combination, winning the league title in 1939–40.

The league was renamed the Middlesex Senior League in 1940, with the club winning the league title again in 1943–44, before sharing the title with Twickenham the following season. They joined the London League for the 1945–46 season and were placed in the Western Section, which they went on to win. They subsequently lost the championship play-off against Eastern Section winners Woolwich Polytechnic. The club joined the Corinthian League for the following season. In March 2014 after a six years’ period of inactivity it was announced that the club was to start playing again. They subsequently joined Division One of the Spartan South Midlands League for the 2014–15 season. In the 2015–16 season the club won the Division One title by ten points and were promoted to the Premier Division. At the end of the 2020–21 season they were transferred to the Premier Division North of the Combined Counties League. In 2022 the club was renamed Edgware & Kingsbury. Last season the club just avoided relegation finishing 19th in the table with34 points from their 38 league matches, and last Saturday they began their new league season away at Holyport, losers in the play-offs last season where they were beaten by a goal to nil.

They arrive here today having beaten Crawley Green in a penalty shoot-out replay of the previous round of the FA Cup. Last season in that competition they lost in the extra preliminary round to Waltham Abbey in an away replay after a home 1-1 draw. In the FA Vase last season, they won 5-2 away at Easington Sports and then won at home in a penalty shoot out to defeat British Airways.However, their third match in that competition ended in an away 2-1 defeat at Cobham.

As a distinct and marked contrast to their first two competitive performances in the past fortnight St Neots turned in an immature showing in this, their first defeat of the new season. They were facing a Rugby Borough side that celebrated a second half performance that took them to the top of the fledging league table despite being outplayed for the first hour of this match. St Neots had only frustration to show until early in the second half but then to concede three goals in less than twenty minutes must be a major concern for Manager Cameron Mawer. He had kept faith with his initial choice of line-up naming an unchanged side for the third consecutive time, but he will have been desperately disappointed by the sheer incompetence of his side. Conceding an unlucky opening goal on the hour his side then imploded as they handed all three points to a visiting side that had hardly looked like bothering home keeper James Goff. Now, with matches to come in quick succession in the FA Cup and FA Vase he must rebuild his team’s confidence as his first priority.

St Neots began well enough with Jordan Brown having second minute effort blocked in his sides’ first attack. Their impressive start continued as on the quarter hour Kieran Barnes played Rhys Thorpe clear of the defence but visiting keeper John Meadows raved from his line to smother the shot. After their early promise St Neots began to look frustrated with too many forward passes either mishit or misdirected. However. They maintained control of the attacking play with the visitors only credible first half attack fizzling out with Shaun Rudvidzo dragging his finish wide of its target. St Neots domination continued but the visiting defence was seldom tested with too muck wayward passing spoiling St Neots possession. Right on half time Thorpe squandered a great chance to capitalise on the home sides’ domination but he headed wide from a Barnes cross.

The visitors pulled off their main striker at half time and adopted a different approach. Within sixty seconds of this setback worse followed as in their next attack the visitors doubled their advantage as Bruce skilfully went along the bye line to set up Luke Downes for a simple tap in finish. St Neots sent on a couple of attacking substitutes but after 77 minutes any hopes of a St Neots comeback was dashed when in a breakaway attack another substitute Antonio Cristofaro put the outcome beyond doubt with his sides’ third goal. St Neots did not give up but their best efforts fell short of seriously testing the visiting keeper although substitute Danny Baulk shot narrowly wide and the lively Harvey Williams saw his net bound effort blocked.

On the heels of their disappointing weekend home league defeat by Rugby Borough a rejuvenated St Neots handed out a comprehensive beating of neighbours Godmanchester Rovers just 72 hours after that embarrassing humbling. It took them just 15 minutes to run up a 3-0 lead with some clinical finishing and from that point on the victory was assured. The home side that had won at March a week earlier had little to offer as their visitors dominated and the final score could (and perhaps should) have been even more convincing.

The two first starting changes in the St Neots starting line-up this season featured Nathan George in defence for the unavailable Charlie Bowen, and the debut of new signing Dan Walker who replaced Jordan Brown in attack.

Manager Cameron Mawer was delighted with the performance as perfect preparation for the two upcoming consecutive matches in National cup competitions.

In their first significant attack after just five minutes St Neots were ahead as Connor Furlong burst through a square lying home defence to open the scoring with a delicious lob. Four minutes later the home defence were in a tangle as Rhys Thorpe retrieved a cross on the left and returned it to the far post where Sam Willis claimed his first St Neots goal. Then, after a quarter of an hour it was 3-0 as Willis blocked an attempted clearance and Rhys Thorpe pounced to claim St Neots third goal in that stunning ten minutes’ spell. However, any thoughts of a complete home massacre were squashed as Godmanchester got their defensive act together although Furlong shot into the side netting and the lively Willis saw another effort blocked by a defender. As half time approached the home side seemed to rally and after 36 minutes the St Neots defence was breached and a Josh Hales chip left James Goff stranded but rebounded from the crossbar to scupper any Godmanchester hopes of a revival.

John Walker's Match Report GODMANCHESTER ROVERS (A) 13-08-2024 Play then moved back to the other end where the impressive Furlong set up Kieran Barnes for a sublime finish in off the underside of the crossbar and a 4-0 half time advantage.

The main feature of the second half was the steady introduction of all five permitted St Neots substitutes as Manager Cameron Mawer completes his plans for the upcoming National competitions. The visiting side seemed to concentrate on possession rather than significant attack although home keeper Ben Newton made one excellent save to deny Barnes a second goal.

Substitute James Hatch on to lead the attack was twice denied by the home keeper before twice finishing off target. Substitute Danny Baulk should have done better than fire over the bar after good approach work by Murphy Culkin and an off-balance Hatch then fired over the bar after the home defence had been breached.

Overall, it was a good preparatory work out for the visitors who will now look to carry they renewed confidence into the upcoming home cup matches.

EDGEWARE AND KINGSBURY FC HISTORY The club was founded in 1939 and played in the Middlesex Senior League until joining the London League (Western Division) for the Division for the 1945-46 season only finishing top of the table but lost the play-off 2-1 against Eastern Division winners, Woolwich Polytechnic. In 1948 they won the Middlesex Senior Cup. In 1963 the club transferred to Division One of the Athenian League. They finished third in their first season, and were promoted to the Premier Division. In 1966–67 they finished bottom of the division, and were relegated to Division One. This was followed by a second successive relegation to Division Two as they finished bottom of the table again.

In 1972 the club was renamed Edgware. When the Athenian League disbanded in 1984 they joined the London Spartan League, before changing their name back to Edgware Town in 1987. They won the Premier Division of the Spartan League in 1987–88 and 1989– 90, and after their second title win, were promoted to Division Two North of the Isthmian League. After league reorganisation in 1991 they were placed in Division Three, which they won the following season. They were relegated back to Division Three in 2001.

In 2006 the now-renamed Division Two was disbanded and Edgware were transferred to the Premier Division of the Spartan South Midlands League. They won it at the first attempt,also winning the Premier Cup and the Challenge Trophy. The club was promoted to Division One North of the Isthmian League, but folded at the end of the 2007–08 season due to their ground having been taken away from them.

In 2013 a small committee joined together including Dan and Anthony Manzi (former secretary to the club), Daz Bloor and Ken Batten (former Chairman to the club) decided to push forward and reform the club by agreeing a long lease for Kingsbury Town's old Silver Jubilee Park (SJP) Ground. It applied and was accepted into the Spartan South Midlands League at Step 6 on 22nd May 2014. Edgware started its home games in that season at Underhill while work was being carried out at SJP to lay a new 3G artificial surface.

Promotion in 2015/16 to the SSMFL Premier Division was achieved with only 2 defeats in the season, and a excellent Vase run, that was eventually ended in the 2nd Round by Ipswich Wanderers.

Ground Works were completed in July 2016, bringing the capacity up to 1995, with 5 Covered Stands, 2 of which have seats in. New Floodlights were also installed, with the ground gaining a C Grade rating.
