The Sodality of the Children of Mary of Saint Teresa, the “Teresians”, was formed in 1873 in response to an appeal from Father Victor Beaudevin, S.J., Rector of Saint Peter’s Parish Jersey City to assist in working with the poor. The women collected and distributed clothing and replenished linens and vestments for the parish and the Jesuit missions. The Teresians involvement with Saint Peter’s University was reinforced in 1931 when the Sodalists contributed $30,000 to build the Chapel in Gannon Hall. Several years ago, the Teresians donated the Nativity Creche which stands outside the Chapel during the Christmas season. Annually the present donations of $10,000 to the Development Fund, and most recently to support the Food Kitchen. The “Teresians” remain a Sodality of Catholic women that seeks to further the spiritual growth of its members and to support the mission of Saint Peter’s University and the Society of Jesus.

Ignatian Prayer Of Generosity

Lord Jesus, teach me to be generous; teach me to serve you as you deserve, to give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the wounds, to toil and not to seek for rest, to labor and not to seek reward, except that of knowing that I do your will.
