KNOWLEDGE ISN’T OUR PURSUIT –IT’S A STARTING POINT
Here, we are cultivating wise judgment and moral leadership in a technological age.
Saint Michael’s is a residential Catholic college where serious academics and genuine community reinforce one another. In a world shaped by artificial intelligence and rapid change, the college prepares graduates with the judgment, creativity, and sense of purpose needed to lead and serve the common good.

“At St. Mike’s, you have the opportunity to harness your strengths, to develop knowledge about something you love, and to go deep into your interests.”

“ I received a research grant and was able to work with Dr. Ruth Fabian-Fine on her Alzheimer’s research for eight weeks. The opportunity to focus solely on research was incredible. I learned so much and realized I love doing research. At most colleges, these opportunities go to graduate students, we’re very lucky at St. Mike’s.”

INTELLECTUAL RIGOR
Students learn to think critically and engage big questions.
The Saint Michael’s liberal arts approach fosters intellectual inquiry through interdisciplinary study, critical thinking, development of higher reasoning, applied learning, and communication and leadership skills.
Students are encouraged to step outside their comfort zone and explore the world while being exposed to new people and perspectives. These experiences lead to better understanding of oneself and others while contemplating the big questions about unity, purpose, and how their skills can contribute to a better society.

Tailored Study
Many students combine multiple majors and minors, customizing studies to their particular interests.
High-performing students may join the Honors Program and be inducted into one of 16 honor societies.
RARE OPPORTUNITIES
Saint Michael’s is noted for undergraduate opportunities reserved for post-grad work elsewhere. Students can participate in high-profile faculty research, lead their own research project in their discipline, use specialized equipment, co-author scientific papers, or present a solo art exhibition.

“My goal is to get into medical school.
The professors here are amazing. Every class I’ve taken has been great. We have opportunities to work on professional equipment to participate in real research with faculty. I’m currently doing research on synthetic molecules for new medicine.”

Purpose & Service in action:

PURPOSE & SERVICE
Developing leaders who seek to do good in the world.
St. Mike’s students aren’t just looking for a career. They are seeking their life’s purpose and to leave a meaningful impact on the world around them. From day one, students are encouraged to serve their community through both volunteer opportunities outside the classroom as well as applied learning assignments that connect to outside groups and organizations.
A core value of Saint Michael’s College is every person has inherent value and dignity. Catholic intellectual tradition shapes the experience through inquiry, human dignity, service, and the common good, while remaining welcoming to students of every background.
Educational pathways and experiences are designed to grow the next generation of community leaders, caretakers, and changemakers.

CALLED TO SERVE
Students have an abundance of opportunities to serve the community through MOVE (Mobilization of Volunteer Efforts).

“I believe that community service generates a greater sense of humanity.
MOVE taps into students’ natural instinct to give back. The reasons for doing so are individual, but MOVE strips away our differences and unites us to work on behalf of others.”
— SOPHIA SEVI '27
Students are also well prepared for a career in humanitarian aid, international or domestic service, and public service.

OUR ROOTS

The Society of Saint Edmund founded Saint Michael's College in 1904. The College draws upon Catholic intellectual and social teaching. Students of all faiths are welcome, including those without a spiritual belief or practice.

Social Justice Legacy
Social justice issues have been the Edmundites’ primary focus for more than 180 years, serving the needs of marginalized populations across the world. Notably, Edmundite priests were involved in the Civil Rights Movement and fight for voter’s rights in the 1960s. The order maintains missions in Selma, Alabama, where students volunteer each year to meet the needs of those impacted by multi-generational poverty and inequity.
The Edmundites’ hands-on compassion sets the standard for a campus deeply devoted to helping others.

REAL-LIFE HEROES
Saint Michael’s Fire & Rescue (SMFR) members save lives on the regular. Students receive specialized training and certifications to be deployed as firefighters and EMTs, responding to emergencies across the greater Chittenden County area.
