Kudos to Saint Mary’s instructor of English Dr� Laurel Young and math instructor Chris Hoskin on their work this summer as AP Readers� Advanced Placement® (AP®) Readers evaluate and score AP students' free responses, ensuring that high school students receive AP grades that accurately reflect college-level achievement in a specified discipline�

Each year in June, high school teachers and college faculty from around the world gather across the United States to participate in locations onsite, as well as to score online from home�

“To be eligible, one must be AP course authorized and currently teaching, with at least two years of experience teaching the course� Saint Mary's own Chris Hoskin has done it for six years, including this year� This summer, I had the opportunity to be an AP Reader for the AP English Language & Composition Exam� I traveled to Tampa, Florida, joining educators from all over the country�

"The Tampa Convention Center is huge, but we used every room of it! We scored over half a million (!) essays from students all over the world� I personally scored 1000+ essays, gaining many insights about the AP program to share with our students� In the evenings, I enjoyed socializing with colleagues from all over the country, sharing tips and advice to make our AP Programs even better�

Being an AP Reader is a professional honor, says Dr. Young.
