Welcome to the Saint Mary’s College High School Parent Association Crab Feed and Silent Auction!

The gift of a Saint Mary’s education is a life changing experience and sending a child to Saint Mary’s is a significant financial commitment. Over 38% of our students have demonstrated financial need and are receiving financial assistance totaling over $2 million. Saint Mary’s financial assistance program helps to make a Saint Mary’s education affordable to many families and insures accessibility to all students who wish to pursue a life of virtue and scholarship that extends beyond the completion of a college preparatory curriculum to assuming societal roles of responsibility and service. To honor the commitment that Saint Mary’s has made to many of our families, the Parent Association hosts the Crab Feed and Silent Auction and donates the proceeds from the Auction to support the financial assistance program. We are extremely fortunate that everyone in our community – parents, teachers, administrators, neighbors, merchants, friends, family and alumni – believe in the Saint Mary’s experience and continue to support our efforts. Buyers are responsible for making arrangements in advance, checking expiration dates and restrictions on contracts and/or gift certificates, and for retaining original paperwork until the donation has been redeemed. We have made every effort to insure the accuracy of the information in this catalog but errors may occur and are not the responsibility of Saint Mary’s Parent Association.

• By your purchase, you waive any claim for liability against the school or its employees, the auction volunteers, and the donors of the property or services. GREATER GIVING We are pleased to use the services of Greater Giving, allowing our volunteers to quickly attach your auction night purchases with our invoicing/receipt software. At registration or before check out volunteers will swipe your credit card into the Greater Giving terminal or you may leave a signed check for us to complete your purchases. If you swiped your card and you are the successful bidder on an auction item, your credit card number will immediately be associated with the purchase of that item, thus avoiding long lines at check out. SILENT AUCTION BIDDING PROCEDURES Bid sheets describing each item are displayed near the item. The value of the item is displayed in the description. Opening bid amounts and minimum raises are pre-‐ printed on the bid sheets. The bidder should print his/her bid number, name and the amount at which he/she wants to bid. PLEASE WRITE YOUR NAME AND BIDDER NUMBER LEGIBLY. The Auction Chair may invalidate bids that do not meet the minimum raise requirements or are illegible. Please do not write on the back of the bid sheets. If you fill in the last space on a bid sheet, ask a volunteer for an additional bid sheet. Valid bids must be placed before the auction closes. In the event of a dispute, the Auction Chair and/or a Saint Mary’s representative will have sole and final discretion to determine the winning bidder. An auction official will nullify your bid if you are blocking or otherwise obstructing another bidder from access to a table at any point during the Silent Auction or if you bid after the silent auction section has been closed. Only the Auction Chair may nullify a bid. Questions concerning the Silent Auction should be referred to the Auction Chair.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS The success of the Auction depends on the goodwill of the donors and on careful observance by the buyers of terms stated on bid sheets and gift certificates. BUYERS SHOULD NOT ATTEMPT TO ALTER THE TERMS OF A DONATION. IMPORTANT TAX INFORMATION Federal income tax laws and regulations impose important requirements concerning the documentation you must have in order to substantiate the deductibility of certain charitable contributions. Auction purchases are tax deductible only to the extent that the amount paid for an item exceeds the fair market value of that item. Further, the Internal Revenue Service now requires charitable organizations to provide receipts listing the fair market value of each item. At the Auction, you will be provided a receipt that will list both the fair market value and the amount you paid for each item. Please save the receipt for your records in order to substantiate any income tax deductions you may be eligible to take as a result of your Auction purchases. Buyers and donors should consult a tax or legal professional for advice concerning deductibility. Sales tax will not be charged on any tangible items you purchase at the Auction.
