One of the means that this active group has used during the past year is the inviting of guest speakers onto the St. ~Iartin's campus to talk on vario us problems in the field of c<lucation. Another type of action that wa;; carried on by the club moderator, Mr. Roger Feeney, is the placement of the senior education s tudents into teaching positions. Much o f the acclaim given to the ed ucation depa11ment is due to the actions of this organization.

On a lmo,-t every rampus there i,- a serdce organizatio n whose purpose is to aid the college adm inistratio n in r onducting cocurricular and extracurricular activities. An organization of this natu re must be composed of -dedicated souls who seek not their own personal ga in but rather the s uccessful outcome o f programs that are not o f their making. The organi zation on our campus that fulfills this role is Sigma Mu Kappa.

They have been ready, willing, and able. They have never failed to respond to a call for help even though they may have been inconvenienced at the time. Each member must ser ve at least ~O hours to rema in in good standi ng. Almost every one has exceeded th at mini mum by a w ide margin.

ST. MARTIN'S CHORUS AND BAND ON TOUR Below we have Dick Pott's conception of our Ranger bus on tour. Dick has really got the feel of the situation. Packing a suitcase can he a fine art and even then you might have to stand on it to get it closed. Packing our school bus follows ahout the same pattern. lt was made to seat 36 people. But by the time we put in a rack with our nniforms, risers for the Chorus, the bass fiddle, the bass horn, the public address system, suit cases, and finally 38 people ... then you must just keep pushing people and things toward the back until ~â&#x20AC;˘ou can get the door closed. When this is achieved, simply to relocate an arm or a leg is a major operation. As the bus pulls out of the school gate. cards are dealt for pinochle. This is more or less a con,:tant occupation during the whole tour. But the tour is a never to be forgotten adventure.

1960-61 CONCERT SCHEDULE: Appearances at '\Vhitman College, :ivlarylhurst College, Columbia Basin Junior College. High school asfemblies: Olympia; Serra in Salem, Oregon; St. Francis in Eugene, Oregon; Burns Union in Burns, Oregon; St. Thomas Seminary, Kenmore, Wnshington; Annie Wright Seminary in Tacoma; Central in Yakima. Evening concerts: i\foxee, Richland. Olympia, Tacoma, Seattle in '\Vashington. Burns, Pendleton in Oregon. Mother's Day and graduation at St. :\fortin's.

The highlight of the Chorus' year was the release on i\-lay 15th of a new record album: "THE ST. \IARTIN'S MALE CHORCS ON TOUR." The album gives the Chorus' complete tour program. It features the two quartets: The Kent Morrill Quartet and the Dick Hooper Qua11et. The album was produced hy Century Records \,¡ith Ted Hannan, sound engineer, using Ampex equipment.

Dave ran the 4-'l-0 in S0.5 sec., to hreak his own year old mark. Bill heaved the sh ot 49 feet 6 inches and the discus l .Y~ feet 6 inche:,. to hecome top weight man in St. Martin's history. 42 feet 9 inches was the record di~tance travekd by Arnie in the hop-step-and-jump.

Highligh~ of the year was the NAIA Dis trict Meet held in Spokane. Of a field of eight schools, St. Ma rtin's ranked sixth with Arnie Fuchs, Dave Fuchs, an d Bill Frank round ing out the ' Red men's' contingent.

All three qualified for the Na tional NAIA Meet.

Arnie, top point ge ttn fo r the season, garnered a fourth in the hop-step-a nd-jump a nd a thi rd in the broad jump. Da ve ran third in the 140, sha ving a second off the school record.

St. }lartin's single fir~t place was captured by Bill Frank in the shot put. Bill also took a fourth in the discus.

These men will provide a solid core for t.he '62 track team as Rill is a freshman; Dave, a sophomore ; and Arnie, a junior.
