Spring Musical: Songs For a New World This Weekend Join Saint Joseph Academy for a theatrical song cycle exploring the moment of decision! The Spring musical presentation of Songs For a New World will be performed Friday, April 7 and Saturday, April 8 at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and a matinee on Sunday, April 9 at 2:30 p.m.

Tickets are $12 for reserved seats, $10 for general admission and $5 for students

Join Us This Monday for An Evening of Spiritual Reflection Mothers, please join us for an evening of prayerful conversation and camaraderie.

Our annual "An Evening of Reflection for Women" takes place on Monday, April 10 and gathers a wonderful group of women together to share their insights, unique experiences and real life questions about spirituality and faith. Friends are welcome.

68 Students Inducted into National Honor Society This week, 68 new members were welcomed into the Saint Joseph Academy Chapter of the National Honor Society.

There are four pillars that are considered when selecting qualifying members: Scholarship, Service, Leadership and Character. Click here for a complete list of the inductees. Congratulations to all of the 2017 inductees!

Name: Riley Justice '17 Accomplishments: Riley has been involved with planning this week's Catholic Schools for Peace and Justice (CSPJ) Club summit entitled Building Bridges: A Journey with Immigrants.

She is also involved in the Health Sciences Honors Program. "As of right now I will be majoring in Biology and minoring in Spanish.

My participation in the Health Sciences Honors Program definitely helped me to choose which major would be right for me. My work in CSPJ and the Health Sciences Honors Program have helped me to be an overall more compassionate person. Join Us on Tuesday for Supper at the 'Empty Bowls Project' and Support the Greater Cleveland Food Bank Students in Art I, Art II and Honors Independent Study: Ceramics III classes have been working for months creating beautiful ceramic bowls - for a good cause! "This is the second year we have held the 'Empty Bowls Project' at Saint Joseph Academy to benefit the Greater Cleveland Food Bank. It is a great event supporting the work of the Greater Cleveland Food Bank and Saint Joseph Academy's own student artwork," shared Bailey Brogan '17.

The event takes place on Tuesday, April 11 from 5-8 p.m. in the Dining Hall.

Cost is $10, which includes a handmade bowl created by a Saint Joseph Academy student and a simple meal of soup, salad, bread and drinks.

CSPJ Summit Gains More Insight on Migrants

This week, students involved in the Catholic Schools for Peace and Justice (CSPJ) club attended a summit entitled Building Bridges: Our Journey with Migrants. "This summit focused on the topics of fair trade, refugees, immigrants and human trafficking. Students heard from keynote speakers and participated in interactive sessions, focused on the topics mentioned above. We are trying to promote student education of social justice issues so together we can take action against the

Students, Guardian Angel Box is Available Students, please be aware of the Guardian Angel Box located in the Chapel. The purpose of the box is for students to place written notes in the box when there is a concern about themselves or someone else.

Please continue to notify a responsible adult, teacher, coach, counselor and administrator if you have concerns about someone or yourself.

The Guardian Angel Box will be checked daily and appropriate action will be taken with the information that is provided. A "Guardian Angel" form is provided at the location of the box.

Students Participate on Refugee Panel School: University of Cincinnati Location: Cincinnati, OH (4 hours from Cleveland) Urban Enrollment: 22,000 undergraduates Strongest Programs: Engineering, business, health sciences, politics, law and social justice.

Fun Facts: A brick from McMicken Hall at UC lies in the foundation of San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge, which was engineered and built by Joseph Strauss, a UC Engineering graduate.

Juniors Esther Ngemba and Alyssa Durma were members of a panel who spoke after a screening of the film I Learn America at Case Western Reserve University. The film told the story of five immigrant and refugee students. Both students answered questions and gave their perspective on refugee issues.

"I believe it is so important to discuss refugees today because they are at the peak of need. Syria, for example, is experiencing an ongoing, brutal civil war. Just recently there was a neuro-toxic gas attack which affected the lives of the roughly 650 people in a small town of the Idlib province. That is L-R: Juniors Esther Ngemba just a glimpse into the lives of one country, one and Alyssa Durma on the town, one instance that happened this week. The Refugee Panel debate of refugees is so vital because they need saving. They don't choose to become refugees.

They are running from war and terror. As human being we have a huge responsibility for the well-being of everything on this planet. Refugees are extremely vulnerable and every single one of them just wants to be safe, educated and happy. They are no different than us in Cleveland, Ohio at Saint Joseph Academy. The more we talk about how extremely susceptible refugees are to danger, the faster we speed up the process to help them," shared Alyssa Durma '18.

Mothers-Daughters: Don't Miss this Annual Eucharist and Brunch Please join us on Sunday, April 23 for the Mother-Daughter Eucharist and Brunch. The event will take place in the Academy Center with doors opening at 9:30 a.m. Mass begins at 10 a.m. with brunch immediately following.

Student Wellness Survey is April 27 A key component of Catholic education is the development of the whole student. Our Wellness Curriculum is designed to meet the specific needs of our students. To help identify the needs and measure the progress of our efforts, we have scheduled the Wellness Survey for all students on Thursday, April 27. The survey is comprised of 100 multiple-choice questions and is based on the Independent School Health Check (lSHC). Please be assured that the survey responses are all confidential and anonymous.

We hope that every parent or guardian will choose to allow his or her daughter to participate. However, parents may choose to have their daughter not participate. If you do not want your daughter to participate in the survey, please notify School Counselor Ms. Maryann Marek by Monday, April 24.

Save the Date: Spring Scholarship Luncheon Please join us on Wednesday, May 3 for the Spring Scholarship Luncheon. Attendees will enjoy a lovely luncheon and raffle at the Westwood Country Club. As Saint Joseph Academy parents, we know that you realize how vital it is in today's challenging world that your children receive an education in a faith-filled, empowering and nurturing environment. You can help continue the mission of Saint Joseph Academy. A generous benefactor has offered us $25,000 to mount the third annual Parent Participation Challenge. Like last year, parents are being challenged to make a minimum gift of $25 to the Annual Fund in gratitude for the opportunities being provided at the Academy for their daughters. If at least 25 percent of our current parents make a commitment, the Academy will receive $25,000 to support our incredible students.

We met this challenge last year, so we know that Saint Joseph Academy parents are an amazing group of people.

Sports Highlights Track & Field Hosts Jaguar Invitational The track and field program hosted the 5th annual Jaguar Invitational on Saturday, April 1 at Fairview High School. The Jaguars hosted Austintown Fitch, Benedictine, Beaumont, Brecksville-Broadview Heights, Brunswick, Medina, St. Edward, Saint Vincent-Saint Mary and Walsh Jesuit.

Highlights: Emma Pesicka '19 finished second in the shot put with a throw of 3401.5 The 4Ă—200 relay team of Timmia Crayton-Prioleau '19, Haley Morgan '19, Katie Pellegrino '17 and Lauren Zawie '17 finished second in a time of 1:51.7 Sydney Seymour '18 finished second in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:22.69 Lauren Zawie '17 finished second in the 200 meter run with a time 27.46 Natalie Larkman '18 tied for third place in the pole vault with vault of 8-06.00

Softball Goes 3-2 During Myrtle Beach Trip The Varsity Jaguars spent their spring break in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina as they played five games at The Ripken Experience.

The team went 3-2 over the four days of play.

Rugby Competes at St. Bonaventure University The rugby program visited St. Bonaventure University last weekend and were able to play games against strong opponents from the state of New York.

The JV Jaguars defeated Kenmore West High School 39-0 to improve to 3-1 on the season. The Varsity Jaguars fell to 1-2-1 as they lost 55-39 to Orchard Park, the two-time state champions from New York. Annie Rolf '17 was named the team's MVP for the game.
