"Live on Lakeside" Appearance Highlights Summer Camp Opportunities

Administrators from six area Catholic high schools are jointly asking Senior parents to help ensure a safe and happy graduation season. As part of an educational effort, the administrators have composed a letter outlining the details of the 1989 Amendment to the Ohio Revised Code, commonly known as the "Keg Law," that holds individuals responsible for underage drinking on property under their control. The 5th Annual "Earn Your Spots Jaguar 5K Race/1-Mile Walk" is being held on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29 at 9 a.m.

Cost is $30 for race day registration. Students who participate in this event will be eligible for a wellness credit by documenting their participation.

Volunteers are needed to help with both the pre-event planning and day of logistics for the "Earn Your Spots 5K

Student Spotlight

The Technology Department has designated support days throughout the summer in which students are encouraged bring their Chromebooks in for any needed repairs. Taking advantage of these days will also assist in avoiding extended repair times in August caused by the large volume of technical support requests and repairs often received at the beginning of the school year.

Pop Tabs Help Support Ronald McDonald House of Cleveland Families

Name: Natalie Barendt '18 Accomplishments: Natalie was selected as one of two Saint Joseph Academy students to participate in LookUp To Cleveland. The program connects high school students in the Greater Cleveland area to people, places and projects moving it forward while developing leadership skills and learning how they can impact their communities. The prestigious program only accepts two high school students per school into this program per year.

"Our first program session was in October and we had our commencement ceremony on April 27. We met for a full day once a month to discuss a specific topic about the community.

The program culminates in a Civic Vision Project which gave us the opportunity to create a revitalization plan for a specific community in Cleveland. My group

Congratulations to the entire student body this year for collecting enough pop tabs to donate nearly $400 to support families of hospitalized children at Ronald McDonald House of Cleveland! The pop tabs, which were presented in purple wheelbarrows, weighed 480 pounds! The Academy was recognized by the Ronald McDonald House of Cleveland as Members of the Key Club at the Ronald a member of the "Collect a Million McDonald House Club" for collecting over a million pop tabs! Saint Joseph Academy has donated to Ronald McDonald House of Cleveland for more than 27 years.

Tree Night, Baccalaureate Mass Start Farewells for the Class of 2017 As family and friends watched, the 176 members of the Class of 2017 on Thursday celebrated Tree Night and the Baccalaureate Mass. The evening began with graduates processing down the front steps of the Academy to the sounds of "Quintet for Clarinet and Strings in A" by Mozart. Standing before a packed crowd of family and friends, President Mrs. Mary Ann Corrigan-Davis '71 welcomed guests and Sister Judy Cole, CSJ '56, provided the opening blessing.

Talented Student-Musicians Create Magical

Through LookUp To Cleveland, I have learned so much about the city of Cleveland and how to be a good community member. I learned how to be an effective leader, and I learned valuable leadership and networking skills for the professional world," shared Natalie Barendt '18.

Activities & Interests: Natalie is a three-year member of Student Council, a member of National Honor Society, Our Lady of Angels tutor, participated in Saint Joseph Academy's first Mock Trial team and will be the co-president of the team next year. She is also an Academy Ambassador.

Natalie went on a mission trip to New Orleans and will be traveling to the Dominican Republic this summer for another mission trip to serve our dear neighbors.

Moments at Annual Jazz and Cabaret Concert Parents, students, faculty and friends of Saint Joseph Academy enjoyed the annual "Jazz and Cabaret Night," held last Thursday in the Auditorium.

The Jazz Band, Show Choir and The Academy Chorale all performed in this popular, end-of-the-year concert.

Instrumental selections included "Birdland" by John Coltrane, "Birdland" by Josef Zawinul and several hit songs by Maroon 5, OneRepublic and Adele. Vocal selections included "Concrete Wall/Enchanted," "My Heart Will Go On" and "All Star." Graduating Seniors received special recognition in their last Saint Joseph Academy concert. "Live on Lakeside" Appearance Highlights Summer Camps Saint Joseph Academy once again appeared on "Live on Lakeside" on WKYC/Channel 3, this time to share information on our upcoming summer camps.

Prom 2017 Was a Night to Remember Prom 2017 was filled with memories to last a lifetime. Saint Joseph Academy Seniors danced the night away by the waterfront at their prom at Windows on the River on Saturday, May 20. The dazzling venue offered an unforgettable backdrop for students and their dates. Before making their way to the West Bank of the Flats, they paused for a photo opportunity at the Academy.

Students Perform in Dazzle Awards Last week, three students from the Performing Arts program performed in the opening and closing numbers of the awards ceremony for the Dazzle Awards, presented by Playhouse Square. The purpose of the Dazzle Awards is to inspire and honor excellence in high school musical theater, and to recognize the importance of musical theater

and arts education within the Northeast Ohio community. This regional program culminates at the Connor Palace with the Dazzle Awards, modeled after the Tony AwardsÂŽ, to recognize outstanding musical theater productions and students. The winners in the Best Actor and Best Actress category have the opportunity to participate in the National High School Musical Theatre Awards in New York City.

Three students from the program to perform in the Opening and Closing numbers of the awards ceremony. Mary Walsh-Hilf '18, Alison Sheehan '18 and Beck Saine '18 (St. Ignatius High School) had the opportunity perform on the Connor Palace stage at Playhouse Square and work with a Broadway music director, choreographer and director.

The students had the opportunity to hold the "genie lamp" from Aladdin on Broadway, as well as a Tony award. Bravo, students, on a job well done!

The Academy Chorale to Sing "The Star Spangled Banner" at Indians Game Make plans now to attend the Thursday, June 1, 2017 Indians game at Progressive Field as The Academy Chorale begins the game by singing "The Star Spangled Banner." Summer Hours at The Paw Prints Store The Paw Prints Store will be closed from Tuesday, May 30-Monday, June 5. Regular summer hours will begin on Tuesday, June 6. The store will be open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. There will be exceptions and special hours during events so please check the website for specific times; however, the online store is always open!

Sports Highlights Crew Sends Three Boats to Nationals This Weekend!

The Jaguar crew have three boats advancing to the national championship regatta in Camden, New Jersey this weekend. The Freshman competed this morning but unfortunately, did not advance to the next round. The Varsity 8+ and 2nd Varsity 8+ advanced to the semifinals! Congratulations and good luck!

Rugby Finishes 7th at National Championships The rugby program, who captured the national championship in 2016, finished in seventh place this year at the tournament, held in Elkhart, Indiana. The Jaguars lost their opening game to Kahuku (Hawaii) 22-0, a The Jaguar Varsity 8+ team that went on to finish second in the tournament. Later that day, the Jags fell 24-7 to State College, Pennsylvania.

Saint Joseph Academy showed their resiliency on Sunday however as they came back in the 7th place game and defeated Warsaw (Indiana) 34-29, a team they had just lost to just over two weeks ago at the Midwest Championships.

In Elkhart, the Jaguars were without several Seniors who missed the tournament to attend prom but Saint Joseph Academy received some strong performances in the win over Warsaw. Mary Chura '18 led the way with three tries while Anna Schubert '18, Annie Rolf '17 and Frankie Burns '19 each added one try. Regina Baldado '18 had two conversion kicks in the win. Congratulations, ladies, on a great season!

Jaguars Finish 4th at Districts; Send 9 to Regionals Saint Joseph Academy finished in fourth place at the Brunswick district meet and sent nine athletes to the regional meet. The regional meet concludes at Amherst High School today. Congratulations to these students!
