There will be a Mandatory Senior Parent Meeting on Wednesday, January 11 at 7 p.m. We request at least one parent/guardian attend this informational meeting regarding Senior events and expectations from the start of second semester through Commencement. Wine and cheese will be provided.

Seniors Wowed at the Cleveland Orchestra Seniors started the new year with a special visit to Severance Hall and a concert by the Cleveland Orchestra. The annual Severance field trip for Seniors is integral to SJA's efforts to create lifelong appreciation of the arts and the worldclass cultural institutions our region provides.

The Seniors enjoyed music featuring the first performance by the Cleveland Orchestra of Hermann's Suite from Psycho, Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue and Bartรณk's Concerto for Orchestra. The concert was conducted by James Gaffigan, making the performance an extra-special treat for students.

"I have been to Severance Hall before but I enjoyed seeing the Cleveland

Orchestra with my classmates. Seeing the performance with my SJA sisters made it special," shared Tammy Pham '17.

Name: Catherine (Cat) Gallagher '17 Accomplishments: Cat has been a member of Crew for three years and this upcoming spring will be her sixth season. She was the recipient of the Jaguar Pride Award given to athletes who demonstrate leadership. "Rowing has given me the opportunity to continue to row next year at Canisius College, a Division I school in Buffalo, NY." This past summer, Cat also participated in her first service trip to Kermit, WV, where SJA students partnered with ABLE (Affirming, Believing, Learning and Empowering) Families, a non-profit, faithbased agency founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Wheeling. "My favorite memory is the friendships I made with the children. I am so thankful the children of Kermit have ABLE Families available to them because without it, their lives would be more difficult."

Activities & Interests: Cat is a member of National Honor Society (NHS), participates in the Health Science Honors Program (HSHP) and sits on the leadership board for Health Professionals Affinity Community Club (HPAC). "I have been a member of the HSHP and HPAC programs since the beginning and will be part of the first full graduating class. Being a part of the Health Science Honors Program, confirms I want to become a

State Mandatory ACT for Class of 2018 On Tuesday, March 21 the Class of 2018 will be taking the state mandated ACT at SJA. Parents of Juniors will receive a letter with additional information pertaining to this day.

All other students will have a "Blizzard Bag" day in which they will be expected to complete assignments from home. Your daughter's teachers will discuss specific assignments with your daughter closer to March 21. Thank you for your understanding as we seek to provide the best testing atmosphere for our students.

Untangled Presentation: Guiding Teenage Girls Through the Seven Transitions into Adulthood Please join the New York Times bestselling author Dr. Lisa Damour, Ph.D., on Thursday, February 2 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Saint Joseph Academy in the Auditorium for a special parent presentation entitled "Untangled: Guiding Teenage Girls Through the Seven Transitions in Adulthood."

Dr. Damour's discussion will highlight why confusing and challenging teenage behavior is often predictable and normal, developmental transitions that turn girls into grown-ups and how to a form a happier, healthier relationship with your daughter.

Jaguars to Play in Flyin' To the Hoop Basketball Invitational On Saturday, January 14 at 11:30 a.m., the Jaguars will take on the Kettering Alter Knights in the inaugural girls' game at the prestigious Premier Health Flyin' To The Hoop High School Basketball Invitational in Kettering.

This internationally recognized high school basketball showcase will take place in front of sold-out crowds of over 20,000 fans, more than 100 members of the national media and over 100 Division I, II and III coaches. More than 75 projected Division I recruits as well as the top players and teams in the nation will be

For Jaguar fans attending the game, tickets for the lineup of games on January 14 will be sold at SJA during the Jaguars' next home game (Monday, January 9, 4-7:30 p.m.) Tickets are $15 (cash or check made payable to "Flyin To The Hoop") and provide admission for Saturday's six games, including the SJA game. $8.00 tickets are available for high school students or younger.

Strongest Programs: The Scripps College of Communication, Art, Business

The Jaguars upped their season record to 9-1 with a hardfought victory over Archbishop Hoban on Wednesday. Claire Orsagos '17 made a big three-pointer in the final minutes to stop a Hoban comeback. SJA led 51-48 in the final seconds and the Jaguars defense forced an off-balance three-pointer at the buzzer by Hoban which fell short.

Fun Facts: Bruce Springsteen performed his first Ohio concert at OU as a warm up to The Eagles. Joe Walsh was overheard saying: "That guy will not be a warm-up act for very long." ohio.edu

Colleen Neitzel '18

The Jaguars were led

by Colleen Neitzel '18 who posted 12 points, 14 rebounds, seven assists, five blocks and three steals. Colleen Drellishak '17 added 12 points with seven of them coming in the second half while Molly Neitzel '19 added nine points. Gia DiMassa '17 scored seven points and iced the game late with free throws. Bre Coleman '18 continued her strong overall

play and added great defense.

SJA will return to the Academy Center on Monday as they host Cleveland Central Catholic.

Save the Date: Softball Fundraiser, Sunday, January 15 Support the Jaguar softball team at West Park Station (17015 Lorain Ave, Cleveland) on Sunday, January 15, 1-4 p.m. Tickets are $25 for the lunch buffet.

The team will also be hosting a 50/50 raffle and television raffle to raise money for their upcoming spring trip to Myrtle Beach.

Deadline to purchase pre-sale tickets is Monday, January 9, however, tickets can be

purchased day of the event.
