Name: Claire Forrestal '18 Accomplishments: Claire is a member of Jagsfeed, which "operates as a creative outlet and an opportunity to unite the SJA community. We work to capture not only our audience's attention but also their spirit. The ultimate goal is to unite the spirit of others under the common appreciation for this form of art: film," shared Claire Forrestal '18.

Claire is passionate about social justice and interned at InterReligious Task Force on Central America (IRTF) this past summer. "This summer, I also repaired houses in Clintwood, VA on a summer mission trip. I am a member of St. Mel Parish where I serve at mass once to twice a month and volunteer at almost all church events," stated Claire.

Claire plans to further her service-oriented volunteer work at Fairview Hospital and will be going to the Dominican Republic this summer with SJA. National Catholic Schools Week Starts Monday National Catholic Schools Week, the annual celebration of Catholic education, starts Monday and will be a five-day recognition of the components that make a Catholic education special.

The theme for the National Catholic Schools Week 2017 is "Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service."

Our celebration will include: Monday: Appreciation of students. Ice Cream!

Tuesday: Gratitude and love to parents. Donuts in the St. Joseph circle for parents.

Wednesday: Service. Special Mass at 1:30 p.m.

Thursday: Gratitude to the adult SJA community. Lunch for faculty/staff.

Friday: Gratitude to our Academy sponsors, the Sisters of the Congregation of St. Joseph. The Sisters will receive a special surprise from students!

Help Support 'Hoodies For Homeless' Drive In keeping with our tradition of helping others, the Paw Prints Store will once again be sponsoring the Hoodies for the Homeless promotion during Catholic Schools Week, January 30-February 3.

Anyone who brings in a gently worn hoodie of any size will receive a coupon for 20% off their total purchase at the Paw Prints Store during the month of February (food and school supplies excluded). Drop off will be in the Paw Prints Store during normal business hours.

Hoodies will be donated to the West Side Catholic Center and the Labre Ministry at St. Ignatius High School, which serves meals to the homeless on Cleveland's streets every Sunday night.

Last Day to Sign Up for Soccer Clinic!

Trial Club, Environmental Concern of Students (ECOS) Club, on the board of the Photography Club and serves as a Conflict Mediator. She is interested in music, skiing and likes to cook.

College Corner

Today is the last day to sign up for the annual winter Soccer Clinic on Sunday, January 29 from 1-4 p.m. in the Academy Center at SJA. Girls in grades 6-11 can participate.

Health Sciences Honors Program Coordinator and SJA Head Soccer Coach Cory Otto and players from the Jaguar Soccer team will focus mainly on ballstriking form. Participants will have the unique opportunity to see themselves on video striking a ball and work with the staff on improving their form. The final hour of the clinic will be games.

Please Bring: Soccer ball, indoor shoes, water and shin guards (optional). The cost is $30.00, which includes an SJA giveaway.

You may only register one participant at a time, but you may register more than one participant overall. Click here to register.

Junior Parents: Letters for Kairos Retreatants Due January 31 Help your daughter get the most out of her Kairos Retreat on February 2, 3 and 4 by praying for her and writing a letter expressing how much she means to you. Letters from other family members are welcomed as well.

Deadline for submitting letters is Tuesday, January 31. Email letters here, mail to CORE Ministry Department Chair Ms. Alison Barberic's attention or drop off in the Main Office. If mailing or dropping off the letters, please make sure the outside of the envelope has your daughter's first and last name on it and mark it with "Parent Letter."

Students Inspired by Alumna Leader Students in English teacher Mrs. Paula Conti's "Women Leading in the 21st Century" class listened to speaker and SJA alumna Mrs. Karen Strebelow Barrett '83. Mrs. Barrett serves as the Vice President & Branch Manager for Charles Schwab Corporation.

The class highlights women leaders through the ages as well as contributions they have made to society. Students develop skills needed to influence both the local and global community for the common good through studying models and theories of leadership, as well as through exposure to female leaders in Northeast Ohio. Guest speakers share their story by discussing the detours along the way, transferable skills from one profession to the next, support system and education.

Students Celebrate the Chinese New Year On Thursday, the Chinese classes and Chinese Club invited students to celebrate the Chinese New Year. The celebration is also known as the Spring Festival and remains the most important social and economic holiday in China.

Dance Team Sells Bracelets to Benefit Families in the Philippines This week, the Dance Team sold threaded bracelets outside the Dining Hall during activity blocks. The bracelets were handmade by families in the Philippines and promoted through a non-profit organization called Threads of Hope. The benefits from the purchases went to the Dance Team and to impoverished children/families in the Philippines.

SJA Student Experiences Women's March in Washington, D.C. On Saturday, January 21, Karli DeChant '18 had the opportunity of a lifetime to shadow SJA alumna and Pulitzer-prize winning journalist and author Mary Jordan '79 at the Women's March on Washington in Washington, D.C. The event drew record-breaking crowds and Mary Jordan was there was not there as a participant, but covering the historic event as a journalist interviewing marchers.

Join Us at Celebrate the Academy!

Join fellow members of the SJA community to "Celebrate the Academy" on Saturday, February 25 at SJA for the annual gala to benefit academic initiatives and scholarships. This year's theme is "All That Glitters is Purple & Gold." Event chairs are John & Andrea Ham P'18, Michael and Lisa Adkins Lonsway '84, P'18, and Patrick and Camille Sheehan P'18.

"Celebrate the Academy" begins with cocktails and a silent auction at 6 p.m.

Sports Highlights Basketball The Jaguars swept the regular season series from Magnificat as the Jaguars posted a 44-28 win on the road on Saturday, January 21. With the win, SJA moved to 12-3 on the season.

The Jaguars were led by Colleen Neitzel '18 who had 10 points and 12 rebounds while Colleen Drellishak '17 added nine points and Molly Neitzel '19 and Molly Dever '18 also added seven points. Bre Coleman '18 had six points and eight rebounds. Molly Neitzel hit an off-balance threepointer at the third quarter buzzer which helped propelled the Jaguars to a lead they would not relinquish.

The pep band will play during the varsity game versus Padua Franciscan (Senior Night) on Wednesday, February 8 at 7:30 p.m. They will play during the varsity game which tips off at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Swimming The swim team defeated Laurel School but fell to Gilmour Academy in a double dual on Monday evening at Gilmour.

Highlights for the Jaguars include: Maddy Kelly '20 took first place in the 100 backstroke and the 100 freestyle, breaking her own school record again!

In the 100 breaststroke, Paola Camacho Colon '19 took 2nd while Jadalise Pacheco '18 was 5th The relay team of Rachel Strick '17, Ally Sheehan '18, Kassidy Gartin '19 and Maddy Kelly '20 took second in the 200 freestyle relay, while the 200 medley relay team of Maddy Kelly '20, Rachel Strick '17, Paola Camacho Colon '19 and Ally Sheehan '18 finished second

Indoor Track and Field The indoor track and field team competed in their second conference meet on Wednesday evening at Spire Institute.

The Jaguars finished in 4th place out of 11 teams.

Highlights for the Jaguars include a first place finish by Emma Pesicka '19 in the shot put and a third place finish in the pole vault by Natalie Larkman '18.
