Help Win Money for Saint Joseph Academy!

Help the Robotics Club win the Lexus Eco Challenge by visiting their website they created about solar panels! The more views the website gets, the more points the team receives. The Lexus Eco Challenge is a STEM contest with student teams tackling environmental issues related to land, water, air, and climate and create practical solutions while competing for amazing prizes.

For eligible teachers, students, and schools to advance to the finals and win scholarships for the team and money for the school!

College students and recent graduates can get a jump-start on their future in Cleveland at the (i)Cleveland Winter Edition career and connection event held on Friday, January 6, 2017, 8:30 a.m.4:30 p.m. at Quicken Loans Arena.

The event includes: Career showcase featuring internship and job opportunities Networking roundtable lunch with some of Cleveland's most innovative and prominent leaders Power sessions with experts to learn how to enhance your job search and prepare for success after graduation Downtown exploration to see exciting new and renovated live/work/play spaces Space is limited to 150 current college students or recent graduates. Alumnae Feeding Those in Need Sister Corita Ambro CSJ '53, who was also named as a Distinguished Alumna in 1992, has served St. Augustine Catholic Church for 46 years.

Among her many duties, she founded and leads its meals program. She and her volunteer team feed an average of 100 to 250 people three times a (Left, in red) Sister Corita at the Hunger Center day. For Thanksgiving, they prepared 20,000 meals that were served at shut-in homes and 29 churches from Huron to Youngstown. Click here for the full article in The Plain Dealer.

Engineering Students Help Special Needs Children As a Christmas service project, the students in Mary Ellen Foley Scott's '76 two Introduction to Engineering classes put their coursework to the test by thoughtfully disassembling and removing the core workings of mechanical toys.

Students brought toys such as dancing Snoopys, bulldogs and dachshunds to life.

They reconfigured the circuits to allow the toys to be used by special needs children through the nonprofit organization RePlay for Kids. The organization repairs devices and adapts a wide-range of battery operated toys for use by children with disabilities who may have limited resources.

To perpetuate the fund forever, the majority of the fund always remains intact and is invested for the future.

Athletic Highlights Basketball: Jaguars Celebrate Overtime Victory Over Magnificat The Jaguars, behind a buzzer-beating three-pointer at the end of regulation from Gia DiMassa '17, came back in dramatic fashion on December 7 to post a 59-55 overtime win over Magnificat.

The Jaguars trailed the entire game until the final second of regulation. With the Jaguars down 50-47 and seven seconds remaining, Head Coach Varsity Basketball Mrs. Maggie Ferrando called time to set up one final play. DiMassa came off two screens and fired a high-arcing three pointer from the left wing that found nothing but the bottom of the net. The game was tied at 50-50 and headed to overtime.

In the extra session, the Jaguars jumped out first on a pair of DiMassa free throws.

Colleen Drellishak '17 (daughter of Kathleen Fox Drellishak '81) added two free throw makes which was followed up by a huge basket from Bre Coleman '18.

The Jaguars burned 45 seconds off the clock moving the ball around before Magnificat could foul. When they did with 1.7 seconds left in overtime, they fouled Coleman who ended the game with a pair of free throw makes.

Colleen Neitzel '18 led the Jaguars with 21 points and nine rebounds while DiMassa finished with 13 points and four assists. Drellishak had 12 points and five assists. Coleman finished with 10 points and nine rebounds and outstanding defense throughout the entire game.

Swimming

The swim team started its season competing against 10 other teams in the St. Charles Showdown on Saturday, December 3 in Columbus. The Jaguars took 8th place as a team and were led in scoring by Maddy Kelly '20 who placed 2nd in the 100 IM and 1st in the 50 backstroke.
