DEAR FRIENDS I’m often asked about the influence of the past two pandemic years on education. While we adjusted to ensure everyone in our school community is cared for, what I am most eager to share is how the resilience, hope and zeal that I have seen at Saint Francis lifts my spirits. I see our educators make creative adjustments in teaching our students and jumping in so that co-curricular activities can continue uninterrupted. I hear the happy voices of our students on campus long after the last bell and am encouraged by grateful conversations with parents. I know these opportunities are possible due to the support of so many, and that support makes an impact at Saint Francis. We hope this newly formatted Impact Report helps encourage you in your commitment to Holy Cross education and know your support is making a difference for our students. Leadership gift from the Brothers of Holy Cross This marks the first time the Brothers of Holy Cross have made such an amazing commitment to a campaign at a Holy Cross school. The Brothers’ wish is for the new educator dining room to be named the Brothers of Holy Cross Educators Dining Commons in their memory.

DONOR PROFILE:
JIM BOWLER Board Member
When Jim Bowler was an administrator at Saint Francis in the 1980s and 1990s, one of his priorities was to integrate innovation and technology into the curriculum. That engagement with innovation in education continues to drive Jim today, as he recently made a generous gift in support of the Light the Way campaign, a multi-year endeavor to ensure students and educators have the necessary tools they need to make an impact. “My ability to support the school is an important part of my life, and I want to continue to see the school grow and innovate for future generations of students,” he said. He loves the fact that the next generation of leaders continue to be formed here and are armed with the foundational skills and Holy Cross values needed to be successful. Additionally, he is thrilled that the school, sitting in the backyards of many high-tech companies, is actively fostering an environment where innovation remains at the core of its guiding principles. “The Light the Way campaign is exciting because it’s a continuation of what Saint Francis has always done — what tools do we need to educate our students, how do we best prepare them for the world they are entering, and how do we take advantage of our locale,” he said.

DONOR PROFILE:
RODGER AND KATHY COLE Parents of Abby ’22
When Abby Cole ’22 was an eighth grader, she asked to shadow at Saint Francis. She had attended her neighborhood schools but wanted to explore her options for high school. After her shadow visit, she instantly knew she wanted to be a Lancer. “Saint Francis has gotten her ready to step out into the world,” said her mother, Kathy. “I’m not sure if she had gone somewhere else we would be in the same position, with confidence knowing that she is going to college, she’s academically prepared and ready for the challenges ahead.” In appreciation for how Saint Francis has enriched Abby’s life and allowed her to blossom, her dad, Rodger, and Kathy want to help Saint Francis fulfill its mission of educating hearts and minds. They recently made a very generous commitment in support of the Light the Way capital campaign. In particular, Rodger and Kathy were impressed with the commitment to fostering innovation. They look forward to the completion of the Innovation Center, which features maker spaces they know will appeal to students who enjoy creating, much like Abby does. “The vision to have buildings open in the evenings so kids can stay on campus and work on projects or whatever drives them adds a whole other dimension to education,” said Kathy.
