LIGHT THE WAY CAMPAIGN The Light the Way campaign intertwines three vital pillars: Student Support, Educator Excellence and Capital Improvement. These areas form a cohesive, complementary framework that elevates our educational experience and fosters a richer, more impactful learning environment. INNOVATION@SAINT FRANCIS The Innovation@Saint Francis program allows students to have meaningful opportunities to partner and learn from parent mentors and advisors from local and global organizations through hands-on work. Dealing with topics such as dementia care and biofeedback in a virtual environment, 59 of our students participated in innovative projects and workshops. IMMERSIONS Our immersions are a transformative journey that extends beyond classroom boundaries. We invite students to build authentic connections with marginalized and underserved communities and provide a profound understanding of local and global justice challenges. Grounded in solidarity, community, spirituality and simplicity, the program encourages reflection and prompts impactful community service. Through our tuition assistance funding, we ensure these opportunities are available to every student who wants to participate.

HOLY CROSS ACHIEVERS AND AVE CRUX Our commitment to providing access to opportunities is reflected in two distinctive programs that foster success among diverse, underserved student populations. The Ave Crux summer program prepares middle school students for a successful transition to a college prep high school, imparting academic readiness and essential life skills. Meanwhile, the Holy Cross Achievers program specifically supports first-generation college students attending Saint Francis and equips them with the tools and mentoring needed for success in higher education.

LANCER LEADERS We believe every Lancer should have a chance to lead during their high school journey. To meet this goal, we expanded student leadership opportunities across our campus. • More than 300 students participated in our Lancer Ambassador program, gaining valuable leadership experience and formation as they helped envision and run our community events.

• During their high school journey, students grow as followers of Christ and serve as leaders to their peers. Last year, 110 students were engaged in four unique core teams, helping lead and implement campus ministry initiatives for Immersions, Retreats, Ignite Youth Group and Liturgy. • The Saint Francis Family Club, a mentorship program, has doubled in size and fostered junior and senior leaders’ engagement with freshmen advisory groups. • Expanding our Affinity Council also has created opportunities for students to engage in leadership development and collaboration that has helped drive programming and culture at the school. sfhs.com/impactreport

CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES Our students have countless opportunities to discover their passions, talents and voices by engaging in a variety of clubs, honor societies and affinity groups. Our highly successful student-run TEDx club provides a unique platform for Saint Francis students to share their stories. In our latest event, 13 students took the stage and delivered compelling talks that encouraged the audience to explore fresh perspectives.

“Seeing TEDx at Saint Francis is so amazing because not many teenagers are given a platform to talk to people directly. Not only have I learned a lot about myself, but also about others. ATHLETICS Athletics is a vital part of the Lancer experience for many of our students: nearly 1,600 participated in the 2022-23 year. One of the new sports that drew a lot of enthusiasm was the rugby program, which was extremely successful in its inaugural year. Our boys team finished their season ranked No. 2 in California. We are proud that we were able to expand our athletic programs and give students additional ways to richly participate in school life.

“Rugby at Saint Francis has given me a new sense of community, which stretches beyond the 15 of us on the pitch, the coaches and the players on the sidelines. It includes the parents, siblings and friends who came to watch and join us in a meal after every game. The rugby community is open to everyone whether they play or not, and to keep it going gives me purpose.”

PERFORMING ARTS Our performing arts programs, whether through band, choir, dance or drama, help develop essential traits such as confidence, perseverance and teamwork while providing a sense of connection. As students support each other each time they go onstage, they take pride in performing their work for audiences.

INSTRUCTIONAL COACHING At the beginning of the 2022-23 school year, a dedicated instructional coach position was introduced to provide extensive support for our educators. The positive outcomes were apparent by the end of the year, leading us to strategically establish an additional instructional coach role. An experienced STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) educator now joins our humanities/social sciences educator in providing mentorship and coaching to our classroom educators. This investment has doubled our capacity to serve, ensuring comprehensive and specialized support for all of our teachers. It reinforces our commitment to creating a supportive environment for continuous educator growth and development.

WELCOME CENTER AND DINING COMMONS Our anticipation for our new Welcome Center has grown throughout the year as we’ve observed the quickly advancing construction milestones, starting with the foundation and moving to the steel beams and walls. In May 2024, we will open the doors to a new space for hospitality, support, collaboration and fellowship. We look forward to extending our Holy Cross welcome to families, alumni and guests in our new Dining Commons!

A LEGACY OF LOVE:

26 YEARS OF UNWAVERING SUPPORT For Rich ’68 and Ginny Haughey, Saint Francis offers an abundance of possibilities and potential for students. That’s why they have been donating for 26 consecutive years. When asked about their continuous generosity, Rich and Ginny share their steadfast love for our school. Rich marvels at the diverse courses, spiritual formation and co-curricular programs that offer Lancers countless pathways to shine and excel. His excitement is evident when recounting recent encounters with students during liturgies or witnessing the remarkable impact of a student’s TEDx talk. All of these reassure him of the formation Saint Francis provides students. “I am most excited about the opportunities these students have and the way they take advantage of these opportunities,” Rich says. In addition to the focus on innovating to meet students’ needs, Ginny underscores the enduring value of the Catholic Holy Cross foundation. Though the Brothers no longer reside on campus, she appreciates that Saint Francis has been committed to ensuring students and families know why the Brothers are important to the school’s history and future.

“The Holy Cross charism has been passed down to all the teachers and students. The Brothers are the roots of Saint Francis,” Ginny says. But Rich and Ginny have not just been financial supporters; they’ve been active participants, contributing as members of the Board of Directors and engaging in countless volunteer opportunities. They recall how, from the heart of their home, they used to sell Christmas at Our House tickets and, in doing so, built lasting connections and friendships within the Saint Francis community. Even long after their sons, Mike ’94 and Nick ’98, have graduated, the Haugheys support Lancer events. Living just down the street, they relish hearing the marching band practicing and the cannon firing at Friday night football while the crowd cheers on touchdowns. During the nearly three decades of making financial gifts to Saint Francis, Rich and Ginny have enriched the experience of almost 10,000 graduates who have been formed as Holy Cross leaders. We thank the Haugheys and the thousands of other supporters who help us fulfill this noble mission of shaping hearts and minds to serve the world.

FINANCIAL OVERVIEW Saint Francis High School supports our students in becoming Holy Cross men and women through an operating budget of $45M, with an additional $4.7M provided for tuition assistance. Of the revenue, 81% of the operating budget is supported by tuition and fees, with the remaining portion provided through investment income, fundraising and distributions from endowments. Saint Francis High School maintains a high level of fiscal responsibility, which is managed by the school administration and governed through policies approved by the Board of Directors. The annual budget is approved by the Board of Directors and the Brothers of Holy Cross, which oversees and sponsors Saint Francis.
